children to participate at mass,
we need a larger number of them in the choir.
This is a great way to get them started on the never ending road of stewardship. Please consider

In addition to the many adult
programs and ministries in
our parish, we are blessed
to have a strong and vital
Youth Program here at St.
Theresa, which is designed
to bring our teenage parishioners in grades 9-12 closer to Christ. Through a
structured curriculum, the
Mass, social activities and
service projects, the
goal is to create a strong
faith foundation that helps
our teens continue on a life-long journey to love and
serve our Lord.
I enjoyed meeting many of them at our Pizza with the
Priest night and look forward to meeting many more in
the months to come.
I am gratified when I preside at the 5 p.m. Mass on
Sunday to see so many of our younger parishioners
participate in the celebration of the Eucharist. This is a
wonderful opportunity for our teens to learn and understand more about our faith while sharing their special gifts through hospitality, music, proclaiming the
Word and being ministers of the Eucharist. These
young people are not only the "future" of the church,
but they truly are "the church” today.
I have also been proud to learn about their many good
works in the community. From serving at a downtown
soup kitchen and a
record-setting clothing drive last fall to helping complete a Habitat for Humanity home and staffing the
monthly Stack a Sack ministry, our young people are
answering God’s call to feed the hungry and clothe the
naked.
The program for the teens starts with 5:00 Mass on
Sundays, from there the teens go to the Parish Hall
where dinner is provided by
the parents and parishioners of St. Theresa. After dinner the teen program consists of fun and games, proclaiming the Word, deep
discussions in a small group setting and ending with
Prayer Intentions. All Youth from grades 9 through 12
are welcome.

GRUPO DE JOVENES
Además de los muchos programas y ministerios para
adultos en nuestra parroquia, nosotros estamos bendecidos por tener un Programa fuerte y esencial de
Jóvenes aquí en Santa Teresa, que es diseñado para
nuestros parroquianos adolescentes en grados de 912 para acercarse más a Cristo. A través de un plan
estructurado, la Misa, actividades sociales y proyectos. El objetivo es crear una base fuerte de fe que
ayuda a nuestros jóvenes a continuar con la jornada
de toda la vida para adorar y servir a nuestro Señor.
Disfruté reunirme con muchos de ellos en nuestra noche de Pizza con el Sacerdote y espero reunirme muchas más veces en los futuros meses. Es para mí una
alegría cuando presido en la Misa de 5 de la tarde los
Domingos, el ver a tantos de nuestros jóvenes parroquianos tomar parte en la celebración de la Eucaristía. Esta es una oportunidad maravillosa para nuestros jóvenes de aprender y comprender más nuestra
fe al compartir sus regalos a través de la Hospitalidad,
la música, proclamación de la Palabra y siendo ministros de la Eucaristía. Estos jóvenes no sólo son el
"futuro" de la iglesia, pero ellos son verdaderamente
"la iglesia" hoy.
También me siento orgulloso en saber acerca de sus
muchos buenos trabajos realizados en la comunidad.
Sirviendo en la actividad (downtown soup kitchen) y
en recaudar ropa en el otoño pasado, ayudar a completar casas para Habitat for Humanity y proveyendo
mensualmente el ministerio ordenando Sacos. Nuestros jóvenes están contestando a la llamada de Dios
para alimentar el hambriento y vestir el desnudo.
El programa para los jóvenes comienza con la Misa
de 5:00 PM los domingos, de allí los jóvenes van al
salón parroquial donde cena es proveída por los padres y parroquianos de Santa Teresa. Después de la
cena el programa de jóvenes consiste en diversión y
juegos, proclamando la Palabra, discusiones profundas en pequeños grupos y se concluye con Oración
de petición. Todos los Jóvenes de los grados 9 al 12
son bienvenidos.

The Council of Catholic Women of St. Theresa invites all
ladies to join us for the monthly Lunch Bunch on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at ll:00 A.M.at Cracker Barrel Restaurant(near Sam's) for food, fun and fellowship. We will
begin signing up for our annual Christmas Dinner to be
held on Monday, December 14th at Logan's Roadhouse. We will also be discussing the results of the annual

SPORTS TICKER
Our parish men won a thrilling 34-30 battle
against St. Mary Magdalene last weekend
and are now in a second place tie for the
league led in the rugged Catholic basketball league. The game was back and forth
throughout and we we down 18-16 at halftime but were determined to bring back a victory against the Newnan squad. Lee Spoor led our offensive attack burning the nets for 15 while his teammates all chipped in
to preserve the win. Plan to travel to Our Lady of Mercy this Sunday and cheer on your fellow parishioners
as we take on St. Matthew at 3 p.m. Admission is free
and the excitement priceless!

Reformadora del Carmelo, Madre de las Carmelitas Descalzas y de los Carmelitas
Descalzos; "mater spiritualium" (título debajo de su estatua en la basílica vaticana);
patrona de los escritores católicos y Doctora de la Iglesia (1970): La primera mujer,
que junto a Santa Catalina de Sena recibe este título.
Nació en Ávila, España, el 28 de marzo de 1515.
Su nombre, Teresa de Cepeda y Ahumada, hija de Alonso Sánchez de Cepeda y Beatriz Dávila Ahumada.
En su casa eran 12 hijos. Tres del primer matrimonio de Don Alonso y nueve del segundo, entre estos últimos, Teresa. Escribe en su autobiografía: "Por la gracia de Dios, todos mis hermanos y medios hermanos
se asemejaban en la virtud a mis buenos padres, menos yo".
De niños, ella y Rodrigo, su hermano, eran muy aficionados a leer vidas de santos, y se emocionaron al saber que los que ofrecen su vida por amor a Cristo reciben un gran premio en el cielo. Así que dispusiéronse
irse a tierras de mahometanos a declararse amigos de Jesús y así ser martirizados para conseguir un buen
puesto en el cielo. Afortunadamente, por el camino se encontraron con un tío suyo que los regresó a su
hogar. Entonces dispusiéronse construir una celda en el solar de la casa e irse a rezar allá de vez en cuando, sin que nadie los molestara ni los distrajese.
La mamá de Teresa murió cuando la joven tenía apenas 14 años. Ella misma cuenta en su autobiografía:
"Cuando empecé a caer en la cuenta de la pérdida tan grande que había tenido, comencé a entristecerme
sobremanera. Entonces me arrodillé delante de una imagen de la Santísima Virgen y le rogué con muchas
lágrimas que me aceptara como hija suya y que quisiera ser Ella mi madre en adelante. Y lo ha hecho maravillosamente bien".
Sigue diciendo ella: "Por aquel tiempo me aficioné a leer novelas. Aquellas lecturas enfriaron mi fervor y me
hicieron caer en otras faltas. Comencé a pintarme y a buscar a parecer y a ser coqueta. Ya no estaba contenta sino cuando tenía una novela entre mis manos. Pero esas lecturas me dejaban tristeza y desilusión".
Afortunadamente el papá se dio cuenta del cambio de su hija y la llevó a los 15 años, a estudiar interna en el
colegio de hermanas Agustinas de Ávila. Allí, después de año y medio de estudios enfermó y tuvo que volver
a casa.
Providencialmente una persona piadosa puso en sus manos "Las Cartas de San Jerónimo", y allí supo por
boca de tan grande santo, cuán peligrosa es la vida del mundo y cuán provechoso es para la santidad el retirarse a la vida religiosa en un convento. Desde entonces se propuso que un día sería religiosa.
Comunicó a su padre el deseo que tenía de entrar en un convento. Él, que la quería muchísimo, le respondió: "Lo harás, pero cuando yo ya me haya muerto". La joven sabía que el esperar mucho tiempo y quedarse
en el mundo podría hacerla desistir de su propósito de hacerse religiosa. Y entonces se fugó de la casa. Dice
en sus recuerdos: "Aquel día, al abandonar mi hogar sentía tan terrible angustia, que llegué a pensar que la
agonía y la muerte no podían ser peores de lo que experimentaba yo en aquel momento. El amor de Dios no
era suficientemente grande en mí para ahogar el amor que profesaba a mi padre y a mis amigos".
La santa determinó quedarse de monja en el convento de Ávila. Su padre al verla tan resuelta a seguir su vocación, cesó de oponerse. Ella tenía 20 años. Un año más tarde hizo sus tres juramentos o votos
de castidad, pobreza y obediencia y entró a pertenecer a la Comunidad de hermanas Carmelitas.
