MERCYFUL LIKE
THE FATHER
MISERICORDIOSO
COMO EL PADRE
T
his Sunday’s “Youth Jubilee”
previews July’s World Youth Day in
Krakow. Its theme from Matthew
5:7, “Blessed are the merciful,” echoes Pope
Francis’ warning that “the practice of mercy
is waning in the wider culture.” In
countercultural witness, therefore, “the time
has come,” says Francis, “for the Church to
take up the joyful call to mercy once more. It
is time to return to the basics and to bear the
weaknesses and struggles of our brothers and sisters.”
Jesus affirms the same in today’s Gospel. “As I have loved
you, so you also should love one another” (John 13:34).
Francis concludes, “The Church’s very credibility is seen in
how she shows merciful and compassionate love.” Jesus
too asserts, “This is how all will know that you are my
disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).
Thus mercy “makes young” the Church, the world, and
everyone. “Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life
and instills in us the courage to look to the future with
hope” (Misericordiae Vultus, 10).

E
esperanza” (Misericordiae Vultus, 10).

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
WITH ALL YOUR HEART • CON TODO NUESTRO CORAZÓN
“With All Your Heart” is a holistic parish
development model that invites all members of
the parish to pray, serve, share, and witness as
loving disciples of Jesus Christ. We can build a
culture of love that is stronger than the culture of
the world that grabs the hearts of people, young
and old, by responding to the Gospel mandate –
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind.”
(Mt. 22:37)
(Mt. 22:37)
What does ‘love’ in the Gospel mean?
The word for “love” in the biblical Greek translation is
“agape” – which can be expressed in English as “give
yourself to.” How will you “give yourself to” Jesus?
Will you give him ALL of your heart?
"¿Cómo vas a
"entregarte a" Jesús? ¿Le darás TODO tu corazón?
We will enter the season “Heart to Share” in May. There are
many ways to share! We share our resources with the
parish; we share our food with those in need; we share our
gifts and talents to serve our community and each other; we
share our prayer and fellowship, we share our faith. Please
consider sharing your time and talent as part of the “Heart
to Share “ team which will be active May 1 – July 30. The
team will be comprised of English speaking members and
Spanish-speaking members. Fingerprinting is not required
for this activity! Please contact Christine Stillings for more
information at 407-886-4602 ext 308 or
[email protected].
talentos para servir a nuestra comunidad y entre sí;
compartimos nuestra oración y comunión, compartimos
nuestra fe.
ext 308 o [email protected].
Easter Taizé Prayer Service
Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 7:00pm in the church
“Taizé is an ecumenical sung and silent participatory prayer service designed to achieve a contemplative
state through music, song and silence. Short chants, repeated again and again, give it a meditative
character. Using just a few words, the chants express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by
the mind. As the words are sung over many times, this reality gradually
penetrates the whole being."
