In John’s text, the gift of the Spirit is made on “that first day of the week,” (20:19) i.e. the day of the resurrection. Jesus appears to His disciples and greets them with His gift of “peace.” (ibid.) Showing them “his hands and his side” (v.20) illustrates that it is the crucified one who stands in their midst, raised from the dead. He then commissions them, sending them forth, just as He has been sent by the Father. And, breathing on them, He gives them the Spirit and the authority to forgive sins. Chloe Charese Albano Mariel Victoria Buscar Christina Rae Cramer John Benedict C. De Los Reyes Matthew Downes Diego Alexander Martinez Johannes Paul Ospina Katherine Marie Penn Enrique Ramirez Valentina Rodríguez Amanda Rose Stetz LETTER REQUESTING TO RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Dear Father Leonardo Jaramillo, My name is Chloe Albano and I am a second year student for my confirmation. I believe that I am ready to receive the Holy Spirit this upcoming May because of the St. Paul’s religious education system containing well-taught and well-spoken teachers and mentors. I have been attending their classes for about two years now and I believe I am ready. My confirmation teacher, Ida, has taught me many things about our faith. For example, Ida has taught me about Jesus Christ’s life and also the lives of many saints. I have learned about the Holy Spirit and the lessons and stories the bible preaches. My confirmation teacher has opened my eyes to look at life in a whole new perspective. Because of her and her teachings, I have many good habits and morals. I pray every night before bed, I go to church every Sunday, and I try to go to confession whenever I feel it is needed. Teachers/Mentors like Ida, Tony, and Kathy are very effective with their students and I appreciate them for preparing me for my religious journey. I also believe that my family has helped me prepare for my confirmation. My parents would take me to church and pray with me, along with my brothers, ever since we were babies. All throughout my life my parents taught me good lessons and values about our faith. They taught me to respect, to appreciate, to help others, and to pray to God not only when I am emotionally distraught, but also when I am happy. Along with my teachers, my family has also taught me to be thankful to God for all the blessings in my life. We even learned a lesson in my confirmation class on how we should pray called ACTS, representing Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. This upcoming May I am excited for my confirmation and to receive the Holy Spirit with my fellow classmates. I can’t wait for the journey that waits.
