A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

“Where there’s Trinity, there’s Divinity: thank you Bishop Murphy!”
Last Sunday’s column spoke of the Heavenly time that was had by all whose trinitarian offering of
time, talent, and treasure helped make our trinitarian celebration of Trinity Sunday, Father’s Day,
and Parishioner Appreciation Day on 19 June 2011 a homecoming to remember! (Just remember
to “save the date (17 July 2011)” and come (home) to Cow Meadow Park for our annual
Knights of Columbus-sponsored Parish Picnic, which this year will provide parishioners an
opportunity to share memories of our absolutely beautiful church which is celebrating its one
hundredth anniversary even as we speak!)
For people who walk by faith in the footsteps of Our Holy Redeemer, remembering the past with
gratitude and sharing those memories is a cause of joy. That is why during our 100th Anniversary
Year, our Sunday bulletin is featuring a weekly column entitled “A Parishioner Remembers the
Past with Gratitude” so that all who labour and are burdened may find the rest others have, when
they come home to Our Holy Redeemer where coming home is what it’s all about!
A trinity of years ago I entered more deeply into that rest myself when Bishop Murphy sent me
home to be your Pastor. It was a homecoming for which I am truly grateful and one that I
remember with gratitude so that I can look forward to the future with confidence, and live the
present with enthusiasm (cf. Blessed John Paul II, Novo Millennio Ineunte).
It would appear that Bishop Murphy is grateful for that homecoming as well, because he keeps on
sending people home to us! On the occasion my 1st Anniversary as your Pastor he sent home to us
Mr. Jacob Onyumbe, a Seminarian from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On the occasion
of my 2nd Anniversary as your Pastor he sent home to us the Vicar of the Western Vicariate and
one of his Auxiliary Bishops, The Most Reverend Paul H. Walsh. And, at the end of the 3rd year
of my Pastorate he sent home to us a newly Ordained Priest, Father Richard Mastrogiacomo!
Our Holy Redeemer is for that appeal to Bishop Murphy and Our Holy Redeemer is appealing to
you. Please, in thanksgiving answer the Catholic Ministries Appeal today so that more men like
Mr. Jacob Onyumbe, Bishop Walsh, and Father Mastrogiacomo may be sent home to Our Holy
Redeemer where coming home is what it’s all about!

“If by the Spirit you put to death
the deeds of the body, you will
live.” (See Romans 8:9-13) The
Gospel today tells us that Jesus is
meek and humble of heart. In the
Blessed Mother and in her Son, Jesus, we have the
perfect example of living by the Spirit. They
refused to live by the flesh. Possessions were of
no interest to them. They knew the Spirit of God
is not flesh and blood, is not material. They used
and honored the material things they had, but they
did not allow their lives to be ruled by them. They
did not identify themselves by what they wore or
what they had or what they looked like. They
identified themselves with the Spirit of God. They
knew who they were. The Spirit of God lived in
them and they lived their lives in harmony with
that great truth. Thus, Jesus could bring peace to
all people. He could be gracious, merciful and
compassionate to all, because underneath all of
their fleshly attachments he recognized others,
even his enemies, as children of God, children that
needed His help and compassion. We are called to
do likewise, “if by the Spirit you put to death the
deeds of the body, you will live.” Perhaps this is
also the reason that we as Catholics feel so
comfortable in asking Mary’s intercessions in our
behalf. “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
sinners, now and in the hour of our death.”

and the souls of all the faithful departed, through
mercy of God, rest in Peace. Amen.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on
Tuesday, 28 June 2011 for the repose of the soul
of Miss Patricia O’Brien. The Lord was Pat’s
Shepherd, and she followed in His footsteps as
a Parish Human Services Volunteer feeding the
hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, and clothing
the naked. Her presence will be missed. Please
consider becoming a volunteer yourself.

BIENVENIDOS A CASA PADRE HUMBERTO Y PADRE MASTROGIACOMO
Una semana después que la Misa de las 5:00 P.M. del 11 de junio de 2011 nos inició oficialmente (con la
ayuda del Pentecostés y el Obispo Walsh) en la celebración de todo el año del Centenario de nuestra
absolutamente hermosa Iglesia, el 19 de junio la Iglesia de Freeport celebró el Domingo de la Trinidad, el
Día de los Padres y el Día de Aprecio al Parroquiano. Y si es cierto que “donde hay trinidad hay
Divinidad” entonces el domingo 19 de junio fue ciertamente Divino, aunque tuvimos que despedirnos del
Padre Néstor a quien su Obispo le pidió que regresara a la Diócesis de Romblon en las Filipinas. (¡El Padre
Néstor regresó a Romblon con una ofrenda de buena voluntad de casi $3,500.00 del “Pueblo de Dios”!
¡Gracias a Ustedes y Gracias a Dios!
Sí, una semana después del Domingo de Trinidad, el Día de los Padres y el Día de Aprecio al Parroquiano
di gracias a la Santísima Trinidad por los padres y parroquianos. Estoy endeudado con la Gerente de
Negocios, Joann Flaherty y con su esposo Gene, con mi Supervisor de Mantenimiento, Bruce Winbiscus y
su esposa Dianne, Paul Doyle y sus compañeros Caballeros de Colón, Michael Crouse y nuestro Ministerio
Músico, y con cada uno de Ustedes que ofreció su tiempo, talento y tesoro para ayudarme a mostrar
gratitud a USTEDES: ¡los Parroquianos que ayudan a hacer que el venir a casa a Nuestro Santo Redentor
sea de gran importancia! (¡Gracias también a la Pastelería Glendale por otro biscocho delicioso!)
La semana pasada, en la Fiesta de Corpus Christi, ¡la Presencia Real de Jesús en el Santísimo Sacramento
vino a casa al 37 de la Avenida South Ocean como lo ha estado haciendo por cien años! La Presencia Real
mantuvo a nuestra Familia cuando en el pasado tuvimos que despedirnos de Sacerdotes enviándonos
Sacerdotes en el presente que nos asegurarán de la Presencia de Dios en el futuro. Con ese fin, me alegro de
anunciarles que no solo ha llegado el Padre Humberto Contreras a orar y trabajar como mi nuevo Pastor
Asociado, sino que el Obispo Murphy recientemente me informó que también nos va a enviar al Padre
Richard Mastrogiacomo a orar y trabajar con nosotros. El Padre Mastrogiacomo es uno de los 4 hombres
que fueron ordenados como Sacerdotes por el Obispo Murphy el sábado pasado en la Catedral de Santa
Inés y estará con nosotros hasta que regrese a Roma a completar sus estudios más tarde este año. Padre
Humberto y Padre Mastrogiacomo: ¡bienvenidos a casa a Nuestro Santo Redentor, donde el venir a
casa es lo importante!
Reflexión Semanal
“Si con la ayuda del Espíritu destruyen sus malas acciones, entonces vivirán.” (Ver Romanos
8:9-13) El Evangelio de hoy nos dice que Jesús es manso y humilde de corazón. En la
Santísima virgen y en Su hijo Jesús tenemos el ejemplo perfecto de vivir conforme al Espíritu.
Ellos se negaron a vivir conforme al desorden egoísta del hombre. Las posesiones materiales
no le interesaban. Sabían que el Espíritu de Dios no es carne y sangre, no es material. Usaron y
honraron las cosas materiales que tenían, pero no dejaron que su vida fuera gobernada por ellas. No se
identificaron a sí mismos por esas cosas, por lo que llevaban o por su parecido físico. Se identificaron con el
Espíritu de Dios. Ellos sabían quiénes eran. El Espíritu de Dios vivía en ellos y ellos vivían sus vidas en
benigna armonía con esa gran verdad. Así, Jesús podía traer paz a todos los que venían a él. El podía ser
benigno, misericordioso y compasivo para con todos, porque debajo de todas sus ataduras a las cosas carnales,
él reconocía en otros, aun en sus enemigos, el hecho de que eran hijos de Dios, hijos que necesitan de su ayuda
y compasión. Nosotros también tenemos el mismo llamado pues si con la ayuda del Espíritu destruimos
nuestras malas acciones, entonces viviremos. Tal vez por esa razón nosotros los católicos nos sentimos tan
cómodos acudiendo a María en busca de su socorro. Santa María, Madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros los
pecadores ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte.
