WEEK OF
April 24, 2016
Our priests will be attending
their Annual Convocation
Monday, May 2 through
Friday, May 6, 2016.
Our daily Mass schedule for that week
will be as follows:
From the diocese of st. Augustine
With sadness we mourn the loss of Fr. Rene Robert
whose body was found on Monday in Georgia. Fr. Rene
died on Sunday, April 10th, the day of his disappearance.
But more important than how his life came to a tragic end
that day, was how he lived a selfless life of love for others. A
life known for putting into action our faith through the Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy. Humbly and generously
he shared his giftedness with those suffering with the disability of deafness, and more recently those whose lives
have led them to be jailed or imprisoned. To those to whom
he ministered, Fr. Rene is remembered for his selfless love
of others and for reminding each and every one of the people he served that Jesus created them for greatness with a
good and noble purpose in our world.
Monday, May 2, 12:00pm only
Tuesday, May 3, no Masses
Wednesday, May 4, no Masses
Thursday, May 5, 12:00pm only
Friday, May 6, 12:00pm only
* Please note there will be no confession or
5:30pm masses this week.
STILL COOKIN’ AT GRACE...
The parish continues to provide Monday dinner at the Grace Marketplace center for the homeless.
You can participate in a couple of ways:
In this Year of Mercy, let us pray that our loving
Lord will finish the good works that Fr. Rene began by converting the troubled soul of the man who took his life. And
may Jesus Christ grant eternal rest to Fr. Rene and cause a
gentle peace to be upon all in his family and in our community who suffer his loss.
1. We are running low on funding to pay for the food
and supplies. You can donate using E-Giving or by
dropping a check into the offertory basket. Make
checks payable to the parish and put “Grace” on
the memo line.
2. Our second Monday team needs some dependable
help with food preparation. This involves
showing up at the Grace kitchen around 2:00 p.m.
on the afternoon of May 9th and subsequent second Mondays, whenever you can. The food preparation is finished by 5:30 p.m. You can participate
other days, too!
Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy

Bishop Felipe Estevez will lead a group of 50 pilgrims to a
journey to the Holy Land, the birthplace of Christianity. October 20-29, 2016, $3,695.00 per person, based on

STEWARDSHIP SPOTLIGHT - FIFTH SUNDAY
OF EASTER
The Sunday 5:30 pm mass this weekend is the Baccalaureate Mass for the spring semester graduates of the
University of Florida and Santa Fe College. This is a big deal! The mission of St. Augustine’s is to “Bring Christ to the
Campus and the Campus to Christ.” What better milestone of us accomplishing this goal is there than sending off our
graduates into the world as strong, faithful, practicing Catholics who will share their spiritual gifts that were grown
during their time at St. Augustine’s? May it be said wherever our graduates go throughout the state, the nation, and the
world, “What wonderful experience this fine, young person must have had to develop in them such strong faith, gratitude, and generosity of their blessings!”
If you look at the numerous programs that St. Augustine's offers to our students, ranging from liturgical, spiritual, service, fellowship, and study, it is easy to see how they leave here on fire in their faith. If you look at their sacrifice and participation in all of these activities and programs, you can see how the Spirit is being poured out in our parish and student center communities. One of the most remarkable events is Nightfever, which is held on certain Friday nights after 9:30 pm mass. The students gather in front of the church on University Avenue and invite their
fellow students (who are likely heading towards serious partying) in to pray and light a candle in front of the Blessed
Sacrament in Exposition. Hundreds of passers-by are drawn in for an encounter with Jesus in our church. What an
awesome witness to the campus community!
It takes many things working together to make all of this happen. It takes our dedicated and caring priests, the
parish and student center staff, and numerous volunteers and ministers. It also takes a lot of funding. So please contribute your time, talent, and treasure to our mission to “Bring Christ to the Campus and the Campus to Christ”. Financial contributions can be made online at www.catholicgators.org, and volunteer opportunities are listed there, too.
To all of the graduates – congratulations! We will miss you as you move on. May the Holy Spirit guide you in
all of your endeavors. As your studies begin to materially pay off in your careers, please remember St. Augustine Parish and Student Center so that we may continue our mission to those who follow in your footsteps.

Art Club is one of our newest ministries here at the Catholic Student Center. Students who can draw, sculpt,
paint, take photos, or make other
kinds of art, come together once a
month to plan big projects or talk
about ways they can evangelize the
campus through beauty. This past
year, Art Club designed an Advent
Walk which they put up around the
Student Center in December. They
have also held “paint nights”, evenings during which they helped other
students to paint religious imagery,
including the Eucharist and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In the upcoming
year they intend to do more projects
in and around the Church and the
University of Florida campus.
