What return shall I make to the Lord for all the Lord has given me — Psalm 116 STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
“No one who sets a hand to the plow, and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.” Jesus was fond of using agricultural terms and images when teaching His Apostles and His followers, and this quote, which comes at the end of our Gospel Reading from Luke today, is an excellent example of that. In fact, you almost have to have had experience with farming and plowing to understand what it means. It is important for the health and sustenance of crops that the furrows made by a plow, and in which the seeds will be planted, are straight. Whether plowing in Jesus’ time either by hand or with a plow pulled by oxen, in order to plow straight rows, someone had to focus on where he was going, not on where he had been. It has not changed with our modern farm equipment today. In other words, the secret is to look forward, and to assure that you are going in a straight line. Looking back invariably made the person plowing lose focus. That is Jesus’ point to us. As good stewards we must keep our focus on Him, on following Him, and on being His disciple. That allows us to move toward our goal of holiness and of being the kind of disciple He wants us to be. 1 Kgs 19: 16B, 19‐21; Ps 16: 1‐2, 5, 7‐11; Gal 5: 1, 13‐18; Lk 9: 51‐62 San Jaime / San León

"Nadie que pone la mano en el arado y mira a lo que quedaba atrás, no sirve para el Reino de Dios." Jesús le LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA

Car Burglaries The Encinitas, Del Mar, and Solana Beach areas have been hit hard with a rash of vehicle break‐ins. 70% of these vehicles have been left unlocked. These crimes could be drastically lessened if people would simply remember to lock their vehicles and not leave valuables in plain sight. SERVE COFFEE THAT SERVES OTHERS Fair Trade Coffee and Chocolates will be on sale the weekend of June 25/26th (Saturday evening and all morning Masses on Sunday). When you purchase Fair Trade Coffee, you are not just buying great coffee, you are helping to build a better trading system and a more just world, one cup at a time! Thank You! A big thank you to all who participated in the Blood Drive on June 5! 32 pints were contributed. Because the components of a single pint saves two lives on the average, we saved 64 lives that day. Over the many years that St. James has held Blood Drives, your donations have saved over 9000 lives. That’s a good sized town! Thank you so much. The next Blood Drive at St. James will be October 2nd. Office for Priestly Vocations LEARNING ABOUT THE PRIESTHOOD On Saturday, July 16th, 2016 the Diocese of San Diego is hosting an Explorer Day for those men who are interested in exploring a possible vocation to the priesthood. FORGIVENESS To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover that the prisoner is me. —Anonymous The day will be held at St. Francis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego from 8:30a.m. to 3:00p.m. If living a life of service for Christ and the people of God is attractive to you, take advantage of the opportunity to attend this upcoming Explorer Day. Pick up an application at your parish office or call Fr. Lauro Minimo at St. Francis Center at (619) 291‐7446. Filled with the Holy Spirit – the Song of Zechariah Evening of Reflection with Deacon Peter Hodsdon Wednesday, June 29, 7 pm in the Parish Hall Early in Luke’s Gospel, Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, is moved to declare the glory and plan of God. Expressed as a canticle, Zechariah preaches, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel…” and continues for 11 verses. (Luke 1:68‐79) This deeply moving, hope‐filled passage will be the topic of Deacon Peter’s evening of reflection on June 29, 2016 at 7 PM in the St. James Parish Hall. He will also have available for purchase his new book, The Dawn From On High, the title of which comes from this canticle. Refreshments and a cash bar will be provided. All proceeds, including a portion of each book’s purchase price, will be donated to St. James Adult Faith Formation. Come join us for an evening of spirit, grace, and smiles. Welcome to St. James‐St. Leo Catholic Community! We warmly welcome all visitors and hope you will consider making our community your parish home. Church attendance does not make you or your family registered members. Registration forms are in the brochure rack at the entrance of the church, online, or at the parish office. PASTORAL STAFF
