“For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last” (Luke 13:30). With those words Jesus makes it clear to us that there are no lines, no privileges in heaven. Today’s Gospel from the Book of Luke — in fact all of our readings for today, this 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time — have to do with salvation. It is difficult to be faithful and Catholic without thinking about heaven on occasion, and the Lord and St. Paul often in his letters, remind us over and over that we are to be striving for that — that our thoughts should be as much on the next life as on this one. Yet when we hear that Gospel that the first will be last and the last will be first, we may think there is some lack of justice there. Jesus does not state this as a definite. He actually is telling us that the first may be last and the last may be first. The truth is that it really is not important. Our faith, the Lord, our sense of stewardship repeatedly remind us that what we think is important on earth may not be important in heaven at all. There is a Greek proverb that says, “Being first is good, but being last is perfect.” We are all called to discipleship and we need to answer that call. REFLECION DOMINICAL
"Porque he aquí, hay últimos que serán primeros, y hay primeros que serán últimos" (Lucas 13:30). Con estas palabras, Jesús deja claro que no hay líneas, no hay privilegios en el cielo. El Evangelio de hoy del libro de Lucas ‐ de hecho todas nuestras lecturas de hoy en día, este 21 er Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario ‐ tiene que ver con la salvación. Es difícil ser fiel y católica sin pensar en el cielo en la ocasión, y el Señor y St. Paul a menudo en sus cartas, nos recuerdan una y otra vez que debemos esforzarnos para que ‐ de que nuestros pensamientos deben ser tanto en el próxima vida como en este caso. Sin embargo, cuando se nos dice que el Evangelio que el primero será el último y el último será el primero, podemos pensar que hay cierta falta de justicia allí. Jesús no dice esto como un sitio de paso. En realidad nos está diciendo que la primera puede ser el último y el último puede ser el primero. La verdad es que realmente no es importante. Nuestra fe, el Señor, nuestro sentido de la administración nos recuerdan repetidamente que lo que creemos que es importante en la tierra puede no ser importante en el cielo en absoluto. Hay un proverbio griego que dice: "Ser el primero es bueno, pero ser el último es perfecto." Todos estamos llamados a ser discípulos y tenemos que responder a ese llamado. En respuesta antes de que alguien no nos hace mejores, pero la respuesta es muy importante. Prayer Ministry What’s Prayer Ministry ? Many popes have encouraged Catholics worldwide to be receptive to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The 50th Anniversary of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal will be celebrated in Rome in 2017. Many parishes throughout the world have healing masses, prayer meetings, healing prayer groups, Bible studies and Holy Spirit Seminars where the charisms are fluently practiced. In all of these ways, Catholics can learn more about the workings of the Holy Spirit. Oftentimes, these experiences change our lives by deepening our love for Scripture, receiving the sacraments regularly, and discovering a new‐found joy of participating in liturgy. We are pleased to share with you that after much prayer, deliberation and parishioner input, Saint James Church has decided to commence the Building for the Next Century Capital Campaign. St. James Church has enlisted the help of Guidance In Giving, Inc. who assisted with the campaign conducted in 2006 for the new church building. This campaign will address Church renovations & major campus improvements Church Renovation: • Widening church vestibule & Baptistry • Refinishing the pews • New Flooring • Restrooms, Social room & Sacristy • Improving lighting in the Church & audio upgrade • Outside trellising &glass opening to church patio Other Campus Improvements: • Lengthening SJ Academy Sports Field • Hall Stage & Audio upgrade • Drought resistant Landscape • Replace aging & inefficient air conditioning/
