Why Join the Choir?
When congregational singing was introduced into Catholic Liturgy in the 1960s, many musicians, clergy , and cradle Catholics thought
that there would be no more need f or a choir. As it turned out, howev er, choirs were needed more than ev er! Many liturgical
documents highlight the choir’s ministry , and pastoral experience has dem onstrated the choir’s importance in supporting the singing of
the whole Assembly .
The primary role of the choir is to sing v arious parts of the Mass in dialogue or in alternation with the rest of Assembly . The choir’s role
is alway s understood to support the f ull, conscious, and activ e participation of the f aithf ul gathered to pray , as called f or by the Second
Vatican Council.
To perf orm their liturgical f unction, choirs need plenty of v oices and rehearsal; f or it is only when the music is well -prepared that the
choir can really support the singing of the whole Assembly . Caref ul preparation is also needed if choral singing is to expre ss the
my stery of God through beauty , and if it is to f oster the dignity of the liturgical celebration.

YOU are invited to take some time to consider joining our choir. Our f irst choir rehearsal will be Wednesday , September 26, at 7:00
PM in Holy Angels Church. Our greatest need is f or male v oices; howev er, all are welcome f rom ages 13 (Grade 8) and up! Y our
commitment to Wednesday night rehearsals and one weekend Mass will y ield spiritual rewards f or y ou and y our parish. If y ou h av e
any questions, or plan to attend the Sept. 26 rehearsal, please call 731-2219 or email sadams@holy angels.net. You have been
invited… now, please join us!
