My Dear Parishioners:
We have just completed a beautiful Christmas
season at St. Peter’s and two wonderful days celebrating
our Saint, John Neumann! As a church community, we
settle in to another year of grace from the Lord!
However, the ‘ordinary time’ of the Church year will
not last for long as Ash Wednesday begins the season of
Lent on Wednesday, February 10th. It is not too early to
reflect on and consider what our personal Lenten
program will be for Lent 2016! We hope they will last
longer than ‘new year’s resolutions.’
As a lead-in to Lent, we must remember that
2016 is a ‘Holy Year of Mercy’ as designated by Pope
Francis. What is coming through in the writings of Pope
Francis and others is that we are not going to be good at
showing mercy to others unless we have truly felt the
embrace of our loving God when we have sinned, when
we have swayed from the path of integrity. God does
not give up. God does not burn bridges. God is always
ready to forgive us.
Of course we have the sacrament of
reconciliation that ritualizes this ongoing reaching out of
our God in mercy. The sacrament is very important but
we become persons of mercy when mercy is part of our
everyday lives. Historically, many Catholics have felt ‘if
I go to confession’, everything will be ok. I often share
with penitents that an important part of the sacrament is
what we do after we leave the place of confession. Will
I leave convinced enough of God’s mercy that I will
take the road of mercy toward others as I go about my
life?
Walking through our ‘holy door’ as a place of
indulgence really works when I go about doing works of
mercy toward those around me. So, the action of
confession, or the action of walking through the holy
door becomes then a sign of a deeper reality in our lives.

AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meets every

~Reflection– Jubilee Year of Mercy~
Mary, whom Catholic tradition names “Mother of
Mercy,” at Cana intercedes with her Son to show mercy
toward the bridal couple: “Son, they have no wine.” But
he does more! Jesus’ transformation of water into wine is
a “sign” (John’s term for “miracle”) that God’s marriage
with the whole human race has begun in Jesus’ person
and ministry, a marriage that will be consummated on the
cross: “It is finished”—we are saved! But before Jesus
acts, Mary instructs the servers to prepare the way for
Jesus’ miracle of mercy: “Do whatever he tells you.”
During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, Mother Church, like
Mother Mary, instructs us to share the Spirit’s manifold
gifts—some of which Paul lists in today’s second
reading—in generous service to the human family. Thus
we prepare the way for Jesus’ new miracles of mercy,
transforming life’s sometimes stagnant water into the
refreshing wine of God’s mercy.

celebrating Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter
and Paul, 18th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway,

are heard at 5:30 p.m., followed by Mass at 6:30 p.m.

THE KING’S MEN
The King’s Men mission is to unite and build up
men as true leaders, protectors, and providers. This
is achieved through weekly formation and
accountability groups, dynamic outdoor experiential
retreat programs, and a call to action effort, which
enables men to engage the cultural and social
climate with authentic apostolic zeal. The King’s
Men’s groups are the true heartbeat of this lay
apostolate. The goal of these groups is to challenge
men to grow in their Catholic faith and in their
vocations as single men, husbands, fathers, brothers,
and sons. This is fulfilled through prayer, reading,
discussion of great books, and the King’s Men’s 4
Cs: Commit, Confess, Challenge, and Confirm.

Men’s Grief and Loss Group
The Men’s Grief and Loss Group will meet twice
each month on Thursday evenings at the Shrine of St.
Rita of Cascia. This is a support group for men who
are mourning major losses of any kind and would like
to seek recovery and healing in a confidential space

Mis Queridos Feligreses:
Acabamos de completar una hermosa
temporada de Navidad en San Pedro y dos días
maravillosos celebrando nuestro santo, John Neumann!
Como comunidad de la iglesia, nos instalamos en otro
año de gracia del Señor! Sin embargo, el "tiempo
ordinario" del año de la Iglesia no va a durar por mucho
tiempo puesto que el Miércoles de Ceniza comienza la
temporada de Cuaresma el Miércoles, 10 de Febrero. No
es demasiado pronto para reflexionar y considerar lo
que nuestro programa cuaresmal personal será para la
Cuaresma 2016! Esperamos que dure más tiempo que
‘las resoluciones del año nuevo.'
Como introducción a la Cuaresma, debemos
recordar que el 2016 es un "Año Santo de la
Misericordia” según lo señalado por el Papa Francisco.
Lo que viene a través de los escritos del Papa Francisco
y los demás es que nosotros no vamos a ser buenos para
mostrar misericordia a otros a menos que realmente
hallamos sentido el abrazo de nuestro Dios amoroso
cuando hemos pecado, cuando hemos desviado de la
senda de la integridad. Dios no se da por vencido. Dios
no quema puentes. Dios siempre está dispuesto a
perdonarnos.
CIRCULO DE ORACIÓN CARISMÁTICO
¿Deseas orar con los hermanos? ¿Quieres alabar y
glorificar al Señor? Te invitamos al Círculo de Oración
carismático. Ven a darle honra y gloria al Señor. Ven a
conocer el gozo y el amor del Señor a través de la oración,
alabanza, cánticos al Señor, y el compartir de la Palabra de
Dios. Los hermanos en el ministerio te recibirán con
mucho cariño y orarán por tus necesidades. El círculo de
oración se reúne los Domingos a las 7 P.M. en el salón de
reuniones en el sótano del convento. Entrada por el
estacionamiento de Lawrence Street. Queremos conocerte.

Por supuesto, tenemos el sacramento de la
reconciliación que ritualiza el alcance de nuestro Dios
en su misericordia. El sacramento es muy importante,
pero nos convertimos en personas de misericordia
cuando la misericordia es parte de nuestra vida
cotidiana. Históricamente, muchos Católicos han
sentido ‘si voy a la confesión', todo va a estar bien. A
menudo comparto con los penitentes que una parte
importante de el sacramento es lo que hacemos después
de dejar el confesionario. ¿Voy a salir suficiente
convencido de la misericordia de Dios que voy a tomar
el camino de la misericordia hacia los demás mientras
me ocupo de mi vida?
FAVOR DE NOTAR:
El Lunes, 18 de enero, el Día de Martin Luther King,
Jr., sólo habrá una Misa a las 12:15 p.m. El Santuario
estará abierto desde las 9 a.m. hasta la 1 p.m. Las
oficinas de la rectoría y el santuario, y la tienda de
artículos religiosos, estarán cerradas.
Caminando a través de nuestra "puerta santa"
como un lugar de indulgencia realmente funciona
cuando hago obras de misericordia para con los que me
rodean. Por lo tanto, la acción de la confesión, o la
acción de caminar a través de la puerta santa se vuelve
entonces un signo de una realidad más profunda en
nuestras vidas.
Que el Señor les bendiga a ustedes y a sus
familias esta semana!

~Reflexión–Año Jubilar de la Misericordia~
Por la boda de Cana, la tradición católica llama a
María “Madre de la Misericordia”, pues ella intercede ante
su Hijo para mostrar misericordia a los novios: “Hijo, no les
queda vino”. ¡Jesús hace algo más! Para Jesús esa
transformación que hace del agua en vino es un “signo” (la
palabra que usa Juan es “milagro”) que es el matrimonio de
Dios con toda la humanidad que empezó en la persona de
Jesús y su ministerio y que será consumado en la Cruz:
“todo está cumplido”, ¡somos salvados! Pero antes que Jesús
haga algo, María dijo a los que estaban sirviendo preparar el
camino para el milagro de la misericordia de Jesús: “Hagan
lo que él les diga”. Durante este Año Jubilar de la
Misericordia, la “Madre Iglesia”, como la Madre María, nos
dice que compartamos los dones del Espíritu, algunos de los
cuales Pablo enlista en la segunda lectura de hoy, en un
servicio generoso a la familia y así preparar el camino para
los nuevos milagros de misericordia de Jesús, transformando
la vida; algunas veces el agua estancada en un vino
refrescante de la misericordia de Dios.
