The reason? Everything is planned, but nothing is certain. Everything is in a constant state of flux, necessitating fresh responses and a new approach, as well as entailing further doubts and painful choices. For example: if a market is lost, the reasons need to be understood, the lessons learned, and the likelihood of breaking back weighed up. Likewise, when tackling a new market, its key features need to be identified, the scope for penetration assessed, and the potential for new business appraised. Much the same applies when a valued worker leaves. What mistakes were made in their regard, were they denied chances, and why were their merits were not properly exploited? Equally, when new personnel join the firm with the aim of fulfilling themselves, bringing fresh ideas, and representing progress, this too demands similar attention. Added to this, there are unforeseen natural catastrophes. They can and do happen. Despite the dismay - if not despair - caused by a river breaking its banks or by an earthquake, a rapid purposeful response is what is needed. Unquestionably, being in business is all about constantly struggling to meet targets – the goals the firm has set itself – and if possible exceeding them, without backing away from the various challenges that constantly emerge, day in day out. That driving spirit is what gives strength to the men and women that work for Prestige Italia. Mario Ceccatelli Director of Prestige Italia Mario Ceccatelli Administrador Prestige Italia AS FROM THE CURRENT ISSUE HOP SHALL INCLUDE A TECHNICAL COLUMN. UNDER EDITORIAL SUPERVISION BY CARSTEN ENGELKE, SPECIALISTS AND EXPERTS WILL SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND THOUGHTS ON EQUESTRIANISM. CARSTEN ENGELKE INTRODUCESTHE COLUMN BELOW TO MY READERS, change is something we all live with. Accepting it and assimilating it with creativity is a part of life for each and every one of us. Likewise for businesses, if they are to succeed. Before I go any further, however, introductions are in order. My name is Carsten Engelke, I come from Langenhagen near Hannover and, as a specialist dealer in saddlery and tack, I boast an association with Prestige Italia based on work and friendship that goes back fully 12 years. From a few simple ideas for making improvements the relationship with Prestige became closer and in 2006 it led to a joint undertaking to perfect the D1 saddle. The market success of the D1 prompted further projects, including newer versions of the D1 and the release in September 2011 of a new jumping saddle with a double tree and built-in shock-absorbing capability, the S1. Even our competitors acknowledged its innovative edge. This close cooperation intensified over time, so much so that on 1st July last I agreed with Prestige to work with them continuously, focusing on new projects in close contact with their sales and production managers and, of course, with their Research & Development department coordinated by Ms Luciana Bruttomesso. In this capacity my main goal, in addition to researching new design developments and monitoring quality and saddle fit, will be an exchange of knowledge and experience with you, our customers and specialist dealers, and ourselves at Prestige. Thanks to years of joint effort by veterinary specialists, physiotherapists, acupuncturists, and some of the best riders in the world, a wealth of knowledge has been built up that will alter the view we all have of horse riding and saddle technology. That view has already changed appreciably. Over the last 10-20 years our stables have been transformed thanks, on the one hand, to horse rearing and, on the other, to world trade in horses. Arabian horses, hanoverians, friesans and, very recently, sports ponies, have become stable mates, each in their separate stalls. Artificial insemination of warmbloods on stud farms has opened the way to new developments in breeding – the horses trot and jump in a way indicating much greater size, they are far more sensitive, and as a breed they are far more elegant and appealing to look at. The aim pursued on stud farms has been to obtain every better looking and better performing horses. An often neglected aspect, however, is the relationship between the length of the saddle and the area of the back suited to support it. The position of the shoulders is increasingly more rearward and they TECHNICAL TALK 6 A PARTIR DE ESTE NÚMERO PRESENTAMOS UNA SECCIÓN TÉCNICA PREPARADA POR CARSTEN ENGELKE, DONDE ESPECIALISTAS Y EXPERTOS EXPONEN PARA HOP SUS CONOCIMIENTOS Y REFLEXIONES SOBRE EL MUNDO DEL CABALLO. 7 TÉCNICA Carsten Engelke’s stable Caballeriza Carsten Engelke rise up more prominently from the body. Croups are becoming longer and more mobile so that they can provide the required momentum and thrust. Increased mobility of the chest wall of the spine between the shoulders facilitates tempo, speed, and gallop on the rise. Even the ability to jump is determined by greater mobility of the back. There is a drawback, however. To ensure that the attributes above are used to the full, the area available to support the saddle is in- creasingly shorter. In addition, the prominent shoulders in relation to the apophyses push the saddle increasingly rearwards. The cumulative effect of all this severely compromises the stability and load-bearing ability of the back and also the serviceability of some horses for riding. In a great many instances the horse suffers wear. Nor will it respond tamely owing to the pain it experiences. Lastly, it is fair to say that it is not as if the riders have become correspondingly smaller and lighter: TECHNICAL TALK 8 if anything, the reverse. The inevitable outcome is that for modern horses, as described above, and for many breeds with unique anatomical features, the tack for them – notably saddles and bridles, etc. – needs to be further improved. In this connection Prestige has, from the outset, been a pioneer. Indeed, when new forms of saddle stuffing were hailed as a heaven-sent solution for horses’ backs, Prestige was already making saddles with French stuffing - that is, with short panels. Today Reitsport Engelke GMBH Prestige is making further progress in advancing the development of saddles thanks to the close cooperation of research workers and universities. So that you can share these developments with us, HOP, the customer magazine from Prestige Italia, will publish a series of articles on the technical, biomechanical, and veterinary aspects of saddles and their suitability for horses. Carsten Engelke THE SEA AND SAND AT VILLASIMIUS O nce again, the Prestige Italia annual convention provided a unique opportunity for obtaining a preview of all its product innovations prior to their introduction in the company’s catalogue. Thanks to a frank exchange of news, views, and intuitions between the company’s agents on the one hand, and its dealers and retailers on the other, the convention also contributed to identifying trends in the various markets and the new responses they require. The meeting was scheduled for mid-June – from the evening of Friday 15th to the morning of Monday 18th – in Villasimius, in Sardinia. The venue, Tanka Village, is a top-ranking guest complex and had already hosted the two previous Prestige annual conventions. The necessary facilities were again made available, including the conference room, where the new Prestige models were presented, and the riding-ground, where the saddles were put to the test in field conditions. On Friday evening, Prestige served cocktails for the newly arrived guests, their first chance after a year to get together again in a gathering that was partly to do with work and partly to do with entertainment and relaxation. As in the past, Saturday morning was reserved for a meeting in the conference room, where the Company unveiled its new products, both LAS AGUAS Y LAS ARENAS DE VILLASIMIUS A la convención anual de Prestige Italia no se puede faltar. 11 CONVENTION those immediately available and those to be marketed in autumn. Carlo Lebosi, Prestige Area manager, and Carsten Engelke. In the afternoon the focus shifted to the Tanka riding-ground. There the guests were treated to a demonstration and comments regarding the positioning of certain saddles on horses. Feedback was also available from riders after they took a few rapid turns around the ground. No engagements were booked for Sunday, which was kept free to enjoy the sun and sea of Villasimius. The evening featured a party event in a traditional local venue on the far side of the promontory separating Tanka beach from Galeoni beach. Light on the outward trip was provided by the setting sun: on the return trip by starlight, as well as by a few electric torches and a large number of mobile phones. On Monday morning guests started leaving for Cagliari airport. The way back home to their normal lives was accompanied by a lingering memory of bright-coloured sand and crystal clear water. THE IMPORTANCE OF AFTER-SALES SERVICE A FEW MONTHS AGO THE RIDER CHIARA COSSUTTA JOINED THE TECHNICAL AND SALES STAFF OF PRESTIGE ITALIA. SHE WAS ASSIGNED THE TASK OF KEEPING UP RELATIONS WITH OUR DEALERS, WITH RIDERS, AND WITH THOSE PROFESSIONAL COMPETITORS THAT ENDORSE THE PRESTIGE BRAND. LAST SUMMER, AS PART OF HER WORK, CHIARA COSSUTTA ATTENDED A “STAGE” IN GERMANY AT THE FIRM OF CARSTEN ENGELKE IN HANNOVER I n August I went to Hannover to observe the methods adopted by Carsten Engelke in providing customer service and to develop a number of new projects for Prestige Italia. During the days I spent with him I appreciated just how much attention is given to customers in selecting the product most suited to them and to their horse, as well as the quality of assistance that goes into delivering an after-sales service. Even allowing that most of the local customers are not involved in professional riding, their level of care and proficiency is very plain from the meticulous way they explain their issues and their needs. The normal working day in Hannover is unquestionably demanding, both in-house and at customers’ stables. In-house, trailers start arriving in the early morning, often at very brief intervals from one another, with a variety of customers that provide a detailed account of their problems. During visits to stables the pace of activity is no less brisk. All the riders visited displayed a thorough TESTIMONIAL 14 LA IMPORTANCIA DE LA POSVENTA E DESDE HACE ALGUNOS MESES HA ENTRADO A FORMAR PARTE DE LA DIRECCIÓN TÉCNICO-COMERCIAL DE PRESTIGE ITALIA UNA AMAZONA, CHIARA COSSUTTA, RESPONSABLE DE LAS RELACIONES CON LOS DISTRIBUIDORES, CON LOS JINETES Y CON LOS TESTIMONIOS DE LA EMPRESA. Chiara Cossutta knowledge of their horses and their needs. In many instances these customers have already bought a saddles and, for various reasons, are in need of advice. For example, in some horses the muscle mass has changed appreciably: either it has contracted through to a forced layoff due to an injury or it has increased because their daily work load has been stepped up. The result is that the product bought, which at first was perfectly suited to their conformation, now needs altering or, in some cases, replacing. Having long worked with Prestige on creating saddle models that made their mark on the market, Carsten is unstinting with all his customers, focusing his skill, amenability, and attention on their problems, all aimed at identifying a solution for all types of issues. The trust they place in him is, as a result, all too clear. Giving advice day to day clearly brings out the fact that horse conformation has changed with time and that the solutions offered for specific needs cannot fail to take account of these changes. It is equally clear that without thorough training for sales personnel it is not easy to provide a broadly based service with this level of quality. In addition to the morphology of the horse, there has also been a change in the importance attributed to saddles. No longer a mere accessory, they are now an important working tool even for non-professional riders. It follows that there is ever increasing need to give attention to this tool which, in the daily work our horses do, can make a real difference. Chiara Cossutta Chiara Cossutta TESTIMONIAL 16 17 TESTIMONIAL PARTYING THE NIGHT AWAY: DRESDEN, THOMAS BÜTTNER SADDLERY O n 6th July last in Dresden Thomas Büttner Saddlery, for the third time running, hosted a Midnight Shopping event. Billed as a “Notte italiana“ (an Italian night) the event treated customers to music, various hors-d’oeuvre, wine, and exceptional equestrian displays – all from Italy. One of the participants was Prestige’s Head of Sales, Carlo Lebosi, who had specially made the trip from Italy to Dresden. He came armed not just with culinary delights, but also with the most up-to-date saddles and matching accessories for presentation to the guests. The evening was a resounding success. Guests at the “happy-hour” celebrations were able to benefit from discounts on product purchases and the evening ended with a tombola and the chance to win countless marvellous prizes including, for example, a Prestige brand riding jerkin in the very latest fashion. A keen commitment to finding the right saddle for every horse – this is how the Büttner saddlery sees its role. In Prestige it found a proficient partner and since 1998 the relationship between them, in terms of work and amicability, has been close. The saddlery, set up in 1906, was bought in 1987 by Tom Büttner, a master saddler, who had in the past studied leather and hide tanning and business management. He is also a rider. No other credentials could better suit him to his chosen work. As a member of BVFR (the German federal association for saddlery and equestrian sports equipment) and through his association and work with FN (the German equestrian federation) saddles – the link that keeps horse and rider together – are very much his stock-in-trade. In 2011 and 2012 Thomas Büttner was also a guest teacher and lecturer at the Institute of Veterinary Medicine at Lipsia, so laying the basis for the first symposia on saddlery. Thanks to these meetings saddlers and veterinary specialists were able to develop an idea of horse anatomy and the effects on it that saddles have. Drawing on his experience Büttner makes continual improvements to previously applied solutions so they can be made even better. En calidad de miembro de la BVFR (asociación federal alemana de guarnicionería y equipamiento para el deporte hípico) y de colaborador y referente de Ina Büttner ¡ESTUPENDA, IMKE! 19 MERCADO ented, a device for measuring horses’ backs, was, as his hundredth project, awarded a top distinction (for further details in this connection go to www.saddle-check.com). Both Tom Büttner’s store in Dresden-Gorbitz, a specialist outlet for equestrian sporting articles, and the Moritzburg branch offer everything that riders and horses could need both for sports use and for leisure riding. The product range available includes both basic equipment for novice riders and specialist equipment for professionals. The saddlery workshop, in the store interior, produces customised saddles and tack in high-quality material, but also carries out adjustments and repairs on all types of saddles and riding boots. The riding-ground at the Dresden store is used to try out new saddles directly and to run checks, on the premises and under riding conditions, on saddles that are in service. For this purposes the firm can call on modern technology, such as computerised measurement of saddle pressure, scanning of horses’ backs, and the German national standard system for measuring horses’ backs. The staff members are in charge of customer assistance, making visits to customer premises and, naturally, to their horses. The sales team and the customer assistance staff include keen riders and draymen who can at MARKET 20 any time offer good professional advice of expert quality. Tom Büttner’s saddlery is at the service of equestrian sports in tournaments and shows for horse rearers, and it sponsors sports riders. For further information on the Thomas Büttner Saddlery, go to www.tom-buettner.de la FN (Federación hípica nacional) se ocupa continuamente de sillas, o sea del elemento que une caballo y jinete. The shop also organizes events that attract large numbers of visitors, such as latenight shopping, fashion shows, and parties. The saddle-fitting service is run directly by the owner, Stanislav Hakr (Eng.), who visits his customers’ stables in person so that he can advise on the right saddles for them and for their horses. In an interview with Hop, Stanislav Hakr (Eng.) declared: “Since I first set up Equiservis my philosophy has always been to treat our customers just how we, as consumers, would like to be treated in any other shop”. “My greatest wish was to do something truly good, so that I could look at our work and be able to say: yes, I am proud of what I have done. Thanks to the firm I have been able to fulfil myself. We have always worked with the same circle of customers, not a large number, but clients to which we can give the very best in customer care. 23 MERCADO reason to come back to us. Satisfied customers are a business’s best advert. We started selling Prestige in 1995” continues Stanislav Hakr. “Prestige produces very good saddles that are long lasting and are well suited to both the horse and the rider. Each model represents a different approach, ensures that the rider is seated in a particular manner, and meets his or her needs. There is no overlap between the models and each is designed in accordance with a different way of thinking. “Prestige saddles come with countless options and this makes them popular models. These saddles command high regard, they fit into a slot of their own in the market, and are much sought after.” Winding up the interview, Stanislav Hakr (Eng.) concludes: “I judge Prestige to be a first- class partner with which to build a very high level of cooperation. The novelty, in fact, regards a discreet restyling of the already established, well- known saddle, developed with the help of the French champion, Michel Robert. In particular, the detailing on the flaps has been shifted upwards and reduced in size, making the flaps more robust and compact. There has also been an alteration to the stitching on the knee pad, now one centimetre higher, making the pad more resistant to the pressure brought to bear by the rider’s knee. Once again, in 2012, the Michel Robert saddle is proving to be a “best seller” among the Prestige range of jumping models. One reason for its appeal is the scope it offers for customisation: leather print, super calf-skin lining with double oiling, or lining in lux leather (which combines the suppleness of calfskin and the resistance of leather). The panels are in latex, shoulder-free latex, (to allow the horse greater freedom of movement for its shoulders), or stuffed. Other features include standard flaps (which are +2cm more forward), and +4cm projections; the flap length ranges from XS through to XXL; saddle sizes are 16”, 17”, and 18”; withers channel measurements run from 29 to 37; and there are small and medium blocks. Choice of colours? Black, tobacco, or cognac. PRODUCTS 32 WHY JULIEN EPAILLARD OPS FOR THE MICHEL ROBERT EVOLUTION SADDLE Julien Epaillard, born on 24th July 1977, is a French show jumper of international standing. Prestige put a few questions to him. When did you start riding? I grew up where there were stables, close to Cherbourg with my parents. When I was 4 years old I was already riding my first horse. I was given guidance by M. Bideaut of the French national team. He helped me to achieve my first results as a young rider both in Europe and internationally. What advice would you give to a youngster that wants to make a start in riding? My advice is, where possible, to start when you are young and be tenacious in following through your goals. Most importantly, however, you must not treat the horse as if it was just any item of sports equipment. Devotion to the animal must come before anything else and the joy of riding must never be missing. What’s your view of Prestige Italia? Prestige is a leading-edge company that supplies top-quality high-level products. The approach of the company is to put comfort first - that of the rider and, most of all, that of the horse. Each saddle is unique and easily adapts to horses’ differing conformations. They are all made to measure and allow the horse the utmost freedom about the shoulders. Why did you choose the Michel Robert Evolution model? I opted for the M. Robert Evolution saddle because of its design. It was developed with French horse riding in mind, meaning that the rider can transfer most of his/her weight onto the stirrups and it is conducive to better contact with the horse because of the proximity it allows. It’s a saddle aimed above all at securing balance and it is very comfortable. How many horses have you in your stables? At present, 6 horses. I recently had to part company with Maestro de la Loge, the horse I had been riding for years. Next season I shall be involved with some new horses to see if we can form a promising twosome. This will keep me out of quite a few CSI 5* events. ¿Cuándo comenzaste a cabalgar? A PROMOTION FOR PRESTIGE PEOPLE CLUB MEMBERS Prestige Italia is delighted to announce that the Company has accorded all members of Prestige People Club an extension of the promotion currently in course up to the end of the year. True, whole volumes could be written on each region of Italy, before ever homing in on any of their key features. The selection made on behalf of HOP has, therefore, been difficult and we hope we shall be excused for the many omissions and the necessary brevity of the commentary provided. We start with an acknowledgment. Worldwide, Campania is identified with Naples. There is much more to it, however. What of its natural geography: Vesuvius, its well-known islands, such as Capri and Ischia, and the Amalfi coast? And its history? What of the many sites in Campania associated with Greek, Roman, and – naturally – Italian history? Our choice, accordingly, is to focus attention on the Reggia di Caserta (the royal palace at Caserta), on Pompei, and on the Museo archeologico nazionale di Napoli (the national archaeological museum at Naples). CULTURA REGGIA DI CASERTA Declared by UNESCO to be a World Heritage Site, the Palazzo Reale di Caserta (Royal Palace at Caserta) was built on the orders of Carlo di Borbone, King of Naples. Fired by the ambition of providing his dynasty with a fitting seat of representation, he had a palace built that could hold its own against the Palace of Versailles. The preferred site for the new structure was in the locality of Caserta, and not in the Naples area. This was the choice of the King, convinced that Caserta would be less vulnerable. The capital was excessively exposed to attack from the sea. The architect, Luigi Vanvitelli, was commissioned with drafting the design. He began the work in 1751, tasked with the duty of providing one of the finest palaces in Europe. The finished design was submitted to the King of Naples on 22nd November of that year. Though the first stone was laid on 20th January the following year, building work on the new royal palace was completed only in 1845 (even though occupation dates back to 1780) because, unlike its founder, his successors were never greatly enamoured of the Reggia. For his part, the King acceded to the Spanish throne in 1759, and in doing so took the title of Carlo III and left Naples for Madrid. The design of the Palace, following the King’s instructions, was decidedly grandiose. It occupied an area of 47,000 square metres and included 1200 rooms and 1790 windows. The southern side is 249 metres long, it is just below 38 metres high, and boasts 12 columns. The royal park, created when construction work on the palace was well advanced, covers 120 hectares and is three kilometres long. CULTURE 40 The park is divided into two parts, the English garden and the Italian garden, the first noticeable for an apparently haphazard layout of the plants, and the second which includes a large fish-pond in which fish for the king’s table were reared. The rear facade of the palace is the starting point for two parallel avenues. The space between them is graced by a series of evocative fountains. The interior of the Reggia houses a picture gallery that extends through 9 rooms and includes major works from a wide variety or origins. THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF POMPEI It is no chance matter that in the last decade the number of visitors to the archaeological site of Pompei tops two million, making it second in Italy only to Rome, with its Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. The fact is, Pompei has a certain fascination and, ultimately, that owes much to its tragic fate. Having started life as a modest cluster of houses and huts at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, this primitive settlement grew over time, the result of being at the junction of two big thoroughfares and of its status as a major trading port. Pompei came under the sway first of the Greek colony of Cuma and then of the Etruscans (we are in the 5th century B.C.), before returning again to the Greeks and finally falling to the dominion of Rome (in 80 B.C.). In barely a few hours the city and its history came to an end when the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 B.C. blanketed it out - together with Ercolano nearby - under a layer of volcanic material many metres deep. Going by the interpretation of Pliny the Younger, the commander of a Roman fleet stationed nearby, the date was probably 24th August. He described how a huge cloud released by Vesuvius reached a dizzying height very rapidly. In total the eruption lasted some 25 hours and during this time it is calculated that the volcano spewed out a billion cubic metres of material. Pompei was deluged by CULTURE 42 a hail of ash and rock fragments that engulfed it, fossilizing the last minutes of the life of the city and its inhabitants. For its part, Ercolano succumbed under a mixture of burning gas, ash, and condensation a few hours after Pompei. The recovery of Pompei and its history, as well as that of Ercolano, got under way thanks to the initiative of King Carlo III di Borbone, who gave the go-ahead to excavations. Over time, they unearthed the clearest evidence of how life was lived in a town in Roman times, thanks to the retrieval of an impressive quantity of statues, mosaics, frescos, and simple grave goods in everyday use. The site was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997. THE MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO NAZIONALE DI NAPOLI The National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which was recently restored, can justly claim to hold one of the most important collections of antiquities in the world. Housed in a building that dates back to 1500, the museum divides up into a number of core areas that host the different collections: one given over to the Farnese Collection (made up of finds from Rome and round about); another that brings together finds from Pompei, Ercolano, and from other sites in the neighbourhood of Vesuvius belonging to the Bourbon collections; still other collections include finds sourced either from minor collections bought or donated to the museum or from excavations conducted under the administration of the Office for Archaeological Heritage of Naples and Caserta. If restoration works are in course a number of these core areas may not be accessible. The Naples Archaeological Museum is home, too, to the so-called “Gabinetto segreto”, a suite of rooms containing exhibits of an erotic and sexual nature discovered during the excavations of Pompei and Ercolano at the time of the Bourbons. Access to this display was originally restricted to persons “of mature age and ascertained moral standing”. In 1848, when the first revolutionary stirrings were in course, the “Gabinetto segreto” as actually deemed to be politically dangerous, to the point that a request was made to destroy the finds it contained. Only under Garibaldi – we are 1860 – were the doors of the museum literally forced open (one of the three keys needed to unlock them was missing). In this way the “gabinetto” was thrown open to the public, only to fall victim to censorship some time later. Today, subject to a booking arrangement, visitors are freely admitted and there is no censoring. The only condition applies to under-14s: they must be accompanied by an adult. The exhibition rooms of the “gabinetto” offer abundant evidence on sexuality in ancient times and its relation to various aspects of life: religion, culture, trade and commerce, caricaturing, funerals, and magic. 45 CULTURA ARTEMIDE, OR “THE ARTEMIDE, O “THE HUMAN LIGHT” HUMAN LIGHT” T E he Artemide Group is a global leader in the supply of top-ofthe-range lighting for households and the working environment. Its rapid sales growth and brand status in the market are what mark it out. The entire work plan laid down by Siviglia is based on innovation and on resolute determination to develop along lines that are consistent while admitting no let-up. Innovation is pursued both in depth and breadth and is directed at identifying a mix of factors that are more efficient than market standards. Clearly, innovation is focused on its products and centres especially on: high-performance textiles, processing, treatments, and finishing. There is, in addition, a receptiveness to special novelties: an example is the “qr-code”, featured in some of the product lines. Siviglia ideally symbolizes the Italian style as expressed in product identity, modern production technique, and concern for the consumer. All this strengthens the attraction it holds for international markets, which are always on the look-out for new ideas from Italy. Its success is evident from the following figures: 170,000 clothing items in 2007, 320,000 in 2008, 530,000 in 2009, 635,000 items in 2010, and 900,000 in 2011. Sales, by clothing items, break down into the following categories: 58% menswear, 24% ladieswear, and 18% children. Building on the success of its sales distribution in Italy, the Siviglia brand now fields a presence in markets both within and outside Europe: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Russia, Dubai, Korea, and Japan. www.siviglia.com/index.asp SIVIGLIA SIGNIFICA EVOLUCIÓN GLOBAL S iviglia es una marca creada en 2006. THIS IS THE TRUE ESTA ES LA VERDADERA NEAPOLITAN PIZZA PIZZA NAPOLITANA D id you know that in Italy there is government certified recipe for true Neapolitan pizzas? Here it is: Mix together one litre of water, 50 g of salt, 5 g of yeast, and 1.8 kg of flour and knead the mixture together for 20 minutes until you have soft-looking smooth-feeling dough that can be easily rolled and does not spring back. Leave it to rest on a marble slab or in a wooden kneading trough for 4 hours covered with a moist cloth. Next divide it up into balls of 180 g to be kneaded by hand on a marble surface dusted with flour until you obtain the traditional round pizza shape 1 cm thick. If you are making a pizza Margherita, add a little extra virgin olive oil, San Marzano tomato purée, and finely diced cow-buffalo mozzarella from Campania. Cook the pizza in a wood-burning oven at a temperature of 450° – 480° for a few minutes, turning it frequently to properly distribute the heat. The result: a pizza with a diameter no more than 35 cm, with an even outer edge, 1-2 cm thick, puffed up, no blistering or burns, and with a colour and fragrance of bread. Add a sprig of fresh basil to the soft central part. SPOGA at Cologne, the top trade fair normally held between the end of August and the start of September, featured a charming ceremony in which those exhibitors boasting the highest number of visitors were presented with a special award. The photo shows the plaque celebrating Prestige Italia’s thirty-year involvement with SPOGA. APPOINTMENTS IN AUTUMN In its autumn diary Prestige Italia has entries for two major trade fairs. Taken chronologically, Prestige will put in its first appearance at Equità, the international horse show at Lyon, between 31st October and 4th November. This year, once again, Equità aims to drum up enthusiasm for horses among as many of the general public as possible. Straight after, between 8th and 11th of November, Fieracavalli, the traditional show at Verona, will be held. As always, this event is targeted at devotees of horses and everything that concerns them. Fieracavalli, which is the only Italian part of the Rolex FEI World Cup, has been revolutionized since last year and the main focus of attention has become the pre-competition trial ring (Hall 7B), where the public can watch the warm-up routines of some of the top horse-and-rider combinations worldwide. Prestige will be present in the hall and at its stand will exhibit its top products and the latest innovations it has brought to market. TRADE FAIR/PRESTIGE EN FERIAS THE OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON 2012 OLIMPIADAS LONDRES 2012 Now that the curtain has come down on the London 2012 Olympics, it is only right to express our appreciation of the two Dutch champions, Adelinde Cornelissen and Gerco Schröder. The first, already a world champion in 2011 and 2012, won an individual silver medal and a team bronze medal, in this way underlining that she is at the top of her game and unbeatable at world level in the dressage when astride her faithful sidekick, Jerich Parzival. Gerco Schröder, on the other hand, claimed two silver medals: one for his individual performance and the other together with his team. Riding Eurocommerce London he delivered an accomplished performance in all his rounds. The other riders that endorse the Prestige fared less happily but were no less worthy. They included Ian Millar, the “recordman” in jumping with 10 appearances in the Olympics, who was ranked ninth in the finals, Meredith Michaels Beerbaum, Christian Ahlmann, and Janne Friederike Meyer.
