II Domingo de Cuaresma
“Este es mi Hijo elegido, escúchenlo.”
Jesus, the Word made flesh, is the full revelation of the
Father. Throughout the history of humanity, the Father
has been revealing Himself to his children through his
Word. The “Bible” is the living history of the Father’s
constant conversation with His People through His
Word. We must always read the “Old Testament”,
symbolized in Moses and Elijah, in the light of Jesus. If
a person attempts to read the bible without the full
revelation of Jesus there are disastrous misunderstandings. As Catholics we have been blessed with the Sacramental Presence of Jesus Christ bestowed upon us in
the power of the Holy Spirit. Our Faith enables us to
say and receive “The Body of Christ” our Faith enables
us to hear the “Word of the Lord”. Painfully not all
Christians can say this because they cannot “Listen” to
the Son of God present with them. Only a Catholic in
communion with the Holy Father can “Listen” to Jesus
Christ and understand the full revelation of the Father’s
love. During this week take time to give thanks for the
Faith that you have received, take time to read the Gospel for next Sunday (Luke 13:1-9), take time to be
more aware that you are a member of the “Body of
Christ” and give thanks to the Father. GK

Padre. A lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, el
Padre ha estado revelándose a sus hijos a través de su
Palabra. La "Biblia" es la historia viva de conversación constante del Padre con su pueblo a través de Su
Palabra. Siempre hay que leer el "Antiguo Testamento", simbolizada en Moisés y Elías, a la luz de Jesús.
Si una persona intenta leer la Biblia sin la plena revelación de Jesús, hay malentendidos desastrosos. Como católicos hemos sido bendecidos con la presencia
Sacramental de Jesucristo que nos otorga el poder del
Espíritu Santo. Nuestra fe nos permite decir y recibir
"El Cuerpo de Cristo" Nuestra fe nos permite escuchar la "Palabra del Señor". Dolorosamente no todos
los Cristianos pueden decir esto porque no pueden
"escuchar" al Hijo de Dios presente con ellos. Sólo un
católico en comunión con el Santo Padre puede
"escuchar" a Jesucristo y comprender la plena revelación del amor del Padre. Durante esta semana tome
tiempo para dar gracias por la fe que ha recibido,
tómese el tiempo para leer el Evangelio del próximo
domingo (Lucas 13:1-9), tome tiempo para ser más
consciente de que usted es un miembro del Cuerpo
"de Cristo "y de gracias al Padre. GK
Thousands Attended 52 Liturgies on Ash Wednesday
We thank the over one hundred Parish Volunteers and
Staff Members who served and supported the 3 Masses
and 49 Liturgical Services that ran continually from
6:00 in the morning until 9:30 in the Evening. Beginning at 1:30 PM there were two liturgies, then by early
evening there were four simultaneous Liturgies. Those
who attended the liturgies were aware of the sense of
hospitality and welcome that was extended to them.

Miércoles de Ceniza
Damos gracias a los más de cien voluntarios de la parroquia y miembros del personal que sirvieron y apoyaron las tres misas y 49 servicios litúrgicos que corrían continuamente desde las 6:00 de la mañana hasta
las 9:30 de la noche. A partir de la 1:30pm había dos
liturgias, y luego por la tarde había cuatro liturgias
simultáneas. Los que asistieron a las liturgias estaban
conscientes de la hospitalidad y bienvenida que se

Can you hear?
We are all aware that it is difficult to hear clearly in our
church building. We have begun the process of resolving this major problem by contracting R S Acoustics
INC to make an in-depth study and make recommendations that “Will be designed to create the best possible
hearing environment using the existing natural acoustics of the space and additional sound absorbing materials where required to provide for excellent speech
intelligibility while maintaining an environment complimentary to music playback, choral, or amplified musical performances.” This consulting service will cost
us $1,920.00. We know that the final project will be
very costly, but it needs to be done. The Parish Building Committee and Parish Pastoral Council will be
deeply involved in the project. There will be more details as we receive them. Can you hear? Is it possible
that the Lord is calling you to make a donation for this
project? GK
Green is for St. Joseph
Our Catholic Church reflects two thousand years of
customs and gestures. We associate the color BLUE
with our Blessed Mother, the color RED is for Jesus
and the color GREEN is for St. Joseph. In our church
there is costly green marble, green terrazzo, and the
metal doors have been “Antiqued” with the green appearance of aged bronze. When it becomes necessary
for the red carpet in the sanctuary to be replaced, it
would be appropriate to use a shade of color green for
St. Joseph. GK

¿Puede Escuchar?
Todos estamos conscientes de que es difícil oír con
claridad en nuestra iglesia. Hemos comenzado el proceso de resolver este grave problema mediante la contratación Acoustics RS INC para hacer un estudio a
fondo y hacer las recomendaciones que "Será diseñado para poder escuchar mejor usando la acústica natural existente del espacio y el sonido adicional que absorbe los materiales cuando sea necesario para proporcionar una excelente inteligibilidad de la palabra,
mientras que se mantiene un ambiente ejemplar a la
música, actuaciones de música amplificados o corales". Este servicio de consultoría nos va a costar
$1,920.00. Sabemos que el proyecto final será muy

El verde es para San José
Nuestra Iglesia Católica refleja dos mil años de costumbres y gestos. Nosotros asociamos el color AZUL
con nuestra Madre Santísima, el color ROJO es para
Jesús y el color VERDE es para San José. En nuestra
Iglesia hay mármol verde muy costoso, terrazo verde,
y las puertas de metal han sido "envejecida", con la
aparición de verde bronce envejecido. Cuando sea
necesario reemplazar la alfombra roja en el santuario,
sería adecuado utilizar un tono de color verde para
San José. GK

Due to financial and liturgical needs of the parish, we
have re-structured the Parish Music Ministry. The positions of Brian and Gina, who lead the music at the
5:00PM Saturday Mass and Duane Godwin who served
at the 12:30 Youth Sunday Mass, have been absorbed
in this re-structuring. We are most grateful to Pat,
Brian, and Gina for their long and dedicated ministry.
Jorge Lopez will coordinate all parish music and prepare all PowerPoint projections for the Masses. Jorge
will also be the new director of the 12:30pm Youth
Mass. Melinda West will lead the music at the 5:00PM
Saturday Mass. GK
Debido a las necesidades financieras y litúrgicas de la
parroquia, hemos reestructurado el Ministerio de la
Música Parroquial. Las posiciones de Brian y Gina,
que dirigían la música en la Misa de las 5:00PM y Pat

Live the YEAR OF FAITH with Fr. Vivian Ben Lima
Fr. Lima was ordained from Los Angeles in 1985
and has served in many and varied ministries which
include: 1. the Director of the Office of Ecumenical
and Interreligious Affairs, 2. Chairman of the Liturgy and Music Committee for the L.A. Religious
Education Congress, 3. Designed the environment
for the 1987 Papal Mass in Dodger Stadium, 4. Currently is working on a Doctorate from the University
of Thomas Aquinas, Rome. When people listen to
Fr. Lima, they want more. Please accept God’s blessing and attend his Reflection of “The Year of Faith”
on Thursday March 7th and 14th. More information to

Celebrating Our Patron, St. Joseph
Tickets Are Now Available
March 19th is the Feast Day of St. Joseph.
This year we would like to celebrate as a
community by having the St. Joseph Table and a traditional Spaghetti Dinner on
Saturday, March 16th in Redahan Hall.
The cost of the Dinner would be $5.00
for Adults and $3.00 for children under
twelve. In order to cover expenses, we
need to sell at least two hundred (200) tickets in advance. If most of the Ministries would agree to purchase at least ten (10) Pre-Sale tickets by March 4th,
we would be able to purchase the necessary items to
make this dinner a success. Ministry Leaders will
be given the opportunity to purchase their tickets
when they check-in at the Parish Center for their
meetings. All are welcome to purchase their tickets
at the Center or there should be Tickets Sales after
the Sunday Masses.

Celebrando A Nuestro Patrón, San José
Boletas Ya Están Disponible
El 19 de marzo es el día de la Fiesta de San
José. Este año queremos celebrar como una
comunidad teniendo la Mesa de San José y
Cena Tradicional de Spaghetti el Sábado, 16
de Marzo en el Salón Redahan. El costo de
la cena es de $5.00 para adultos y $3.00 para
niños menores de doce años. Con el fin de
cubrir los gastos, tenemos que vender por lo
menos doscientos (200) boletos por adelantado. Si la
mayor parte de los Ministerios acuerdan comprar al
menos diez (10) Boletos Por Adelantado antes del 4
de marzo, podremos comprar los artículos necesarios
para hacer que esta cena sea todo un éxito. Se les dará
la oportunidad de comprar sus boletos cuando se registren en el Centro Parroquial para la reunión. Todos
son bienvenidos a comprar sus boletos en el Centro o
también tendremos venta de boletos después de las
Misas dominicales.

The process of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is one of conversion
for those seeking Full Communion into the
Roman Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist (Holy Communion). Baptized persons
who need Confirmation and/or First Communion are
also welcome. We meet on Sunday mornings at 8:30
a.m. in the Parish Center until twelve noon. Sessions
will NOT Meet on the 24th. Sessions will resume on

of Children & Young People Marks 10
Years
2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the US Bishops’ Charter for
the Protection of Children and Young People. The
Charter contains practical and pastoral steps that
address allegations of sexual abuse, prevent future
abuse, and help abuse victims through the healing
process. Over the past decade, more than 100,000
adults and children have undergone abuse awareness and prevention sessions in archdiocesan parishes and schools. More than 5,000 VIRTUS® sessions have been conducted, making access to this
important training easily available. Additionally, the
archdiocese continues to be one of the largest private organizations in California to fingerprint employees and volunteers (more than 100,000 to date)
who work with our children.

El proceso del Rito de la Iniciación Cristiana de
Adultos (RICA) es uno de conversión para aquellos que buscan la plena comunión en la Iglesia
Católica Romana a través de los sacramentos del

El Estatuto para la Protección de Niños y Jóvenes Cumple 10 años
En el 2012 se conmemoro el decimo aniversario de
la implementación del Estatuto adoptado por los
Obispos de los Estados Unidos para la protección
de niños y jóvenes. Es Estatuto contiene medidas
prácticas y pastorales con relación a los casos de abuso
sexual; sobre cómo prevenir futuros abusos y como
ayudar a las víctimas de abuso durante el proceso de
sanación. Durante la última década, más de 100,000
adultos y niños en nuestras parroquias y escuelas han
participado en los programas para la concientización y
prevención sobre el abuso sexual. Se han realizado más
de 5 mil sesiones de VIRTUS®, poniendo este importante entrenamiento al alcance de todos. Además, la
Arquidiócesis sigue siendo una de las más grandes organizaciones privadas en California que registra las
huellas digitales de empleados y voluntarios (hasta la
fecha más de 100,000) que trabajan con niños.

Weddings: Congratulations! Thank you for choosing
St. Joseph Church as the place to celebrate your marriage. Preparation takes approximately 6 months. To
begin the process it is necessary that the couple attend an information night. This meeting takes place
in our parish office once a month and is always the
second Monday of each month at 7:00 in the evening.
