Education has always been a priority of the Organization of American States, because only through education can we attain peace, democracy, human rights, and sustainable development. They accept that a developed world depends on healthy, educated individuals who can contribute to the economic and social development of their countries. With the global economic downturn, financing of and access to higher education has become an even greater challenge for the majority of our citizens. This conference will highlight internationalization and the importance of strategic alliances and partnerships in addressing this challenge. This is to ensure that a copy of all presentations (or speeches) is on file in advance of the session; that it can be posted on the CAIE website following the event (granted permission); and, in case of simultaneous interpretation, for the interpreters’ reference. IOHE and CONAHEC staff are sharing an office adjacent to the Lake Louise room. For assistance in Spanish or Portuguese, please visit them in the Banff room. LOST AND FOUND Objects left behind in a meeting room may be given to a volunteer and/or brought to the Conference Office (Lake Louise room) where they can be retrieved during the regular office hours. INTERNET ACCESS Delegates staying at the Westin Hotel can access the internet at no extra charge from their room or with their special code for wireless access throughout the hotel. Starbucks, located in the hotel lobby, also offers free wireless access. NETWORKING LOUNGE — October 21 VOLUNTEERS A team of volunteers, wearing yellow badges, is on site to provide assistance to conference organizers and delegates alike. Do not hesitate to ask them for directions or other information. EVALUATION To assist in the planning of future conferences please take the time to complete the general evaluation form included in your conference kit as well as the concurrent session evaluations, and return them either to a Room Monitor (as you are exiting a session), or to the Registration/Information desk. General information will be made available in all four languages and conference staff and volunteers will be delighted to assist delegates in the language of their choice or point them to a colleague who can do so. For purposes of this publication, concurrent sessions and association-specific events such as CBIE professional development workshops and the annual general assembly are featured in the language(s) of presentation only. SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION Look for the icon in the program section of this guide next to sessions offering simultaneous interpretation into the four conference languages (unless otherwise specified at the end of a session description). To obtain a receiver for simultaneous interpretation, please see A/V staff in the foyer area of the hotel’s Conference Level. You will be asked to complete a registration card and leave a security deposit (i.e. a piece of identification). Receivers must be returned at the end of each day. In an effort to create a congenial atmosphere and facilitate meetings with colleagues and potential collaborators, the Bow Valley room (lower level) will be serving as a networking lounge on October 21 (only). Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Toward a Higher Degree of Internationalization at the École de technologie supérieure: A consultation process Based on past experience, the ETS is now ready to increase its levels of internationalization. To support these efforts, an extensive consultation was conducted in the autumn of 2009 examining both the status quo and desired outcomes. A number of discoveries and challenges were surfaced, as well as major recommendations for the way ahead.
