Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
As I write to you, I am in the process of taking stock of
my ministry here with you as I approach the 8th month
mark as your Rector. An important part of that inventory
is carefully reviewing our Cathedral ministries and how to
move forward with them for your spiritual edifica on.
One of the areas that I have been giving careful a en on
to almost from day one has been the liturgical music at
our Masses.
Following a careful scru ny of liturgical music resources, I made the decision to have the Cathedral purchase the Saint Michael Hymnals. These hymnals contain
music that is very appropriate for our diverse liturgical
demographic here at the Cathedral. The hymnal includes
La n, English, Spanish and contemporary hymns.
A Cathedral is the Mother Church of a Diocese which
means that our Liturgies must always be exemplary and a
model of excellence. Whether one a ends Mass where
the music is tradi onal La n and/or English, Spanish, or
contemporary church music, my goal as Rector is that
every person who walks into this church, leaves spiritually
upli ed, full of joy, and peace because of the high quality
of our liturgies, music included.
The Saint Michael Hymnals will be in the pews beginning the First Sunday of Advent which will be the 5:00 PM
Sunday Vigil Mass on Saturday, November 28.
Thank you for your a en on to this message and may
the Lord con nue to give you all His Peace.
Fr. Jacob Carazo, OFM Conv.

PURE FRANKINCENSE
For the past few years, we have obtained the raw, pure frankincense that we use for liturgies at
the Cathedral from Jerusalem. This incense has the advantage of being nearly hypoallergenic; no
perfumes or dyes or anything other than pure incense resin. It also has the advantage of being
cheap! Usually, pilgrims can find pure frankincense for less than $6/lb. while incense bought in
specialty stores or online can run over $40/lb.
If you or someone you know is planning a trip to the Holy Land, or know someone who is,
please get in touch with Gwen at [email protected] or through the Parish Office.
SISTER CARMEN’S 60TH JUBILEE
Sister Carmen entered the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Family in San Francisco in 1955. She worked in California un l 1976, then came to Reno where she
has been since. Her ministries have been Religious Educa on and helping the
poor and needy in our area. Since she has been here, Sister Carmen has touched
and brightened numerous lives.
A recep on will be held outside of Our Lady of the Snows Church on Sunday,
September 20th from 8:30AM-12:30PM to show our apprecia on to Sister Carmen.

JOKE
A grandmother is watching her grandchild playing on the beach when a huge wave
comes and takes him out to sea. She pleads, "Please God, save my only grandson.
I beg of you, bring him back." And a big wave comes and washes the boy back onto
the beach, good as new. She looks up to heaven and says: "He had a hat!"

Will you help Billie?
Some of you may remember Billie Batek who was involved in
our music ministry right before her health deteriorated to the point
to which she became homebound.
Billie suffers from Mul ple sclerosis, a sneaky and mean disease
which has robbed her of her right peripheral sight in January of 2015,
quickly followed by stammering, word searching, stumbling, falling
and tremors. Billie was hospitalized three separate mes last year
and received infusion therapy.
She is unable to walk unaided, and is o en in a wheel chair.
Her vision con nues to decline, and the blindness has moved to her
le eye. She is o en unable to hold a glass of water; when she does
drink she chokes due to loss of muscle control in her throat.
Consequently Billie is unable to work. She has sold everything of
value and is now turning to our community for help. She receives
SNAP benefits for food, and Medicaid covers her medica ons as well
as her physician appointments and treatments. S ll her financial situa on is beyond dire. Billie desperately needs rent money and daily
life necessi es (u li es, etc.)
She has spent many hours in prayer which has led her to this request. Whatever you may find you are able to share with her, will be
greatly appreciated.
If you wish to talk to her, you may call her at (775)247-1650.
A PayPal account has been set up: [email protected].
This will allow her to access funds immediately.

Transfigúrame, Señor, a tu imagen.
Compartir tu pan.
Quiero serte fiel, Tú vendrás, Señor, a mi lado.
Dime, Yahvé, roca mía, ¿te has olvidado de mí?
