Following the Good Shepherd
The joyful tone of the past three Sundays of Easter
is a little darker today. All three readings remind us of
suffering, death, and sin. We, like Peter’s audience in
the first reading, can ask, “What are we to do?” And the
answer will be the same: we must reform. Or, as Peter
says in his first Letter, we have strayed like sheep and
must return to the shepherd.
Jesus describes Himself as a shepherd in today’s
Gospel, and we know it was one of the earliest images
of Christ in the apostolic church. Today’s passage continues the darker theme of the first two
readings. Danger lurks and the sheep need protection. They might follow a false leader; they
might be stolen or destroyed. Only in Jesus Christ will we be safe. Only in Him will we have
eternal life.

2014 GALA
“The Vatican”
The excitement is building to attend the Gala this year. The décor is outstanding; we have brought the Vatican to Tracy. For
those who are attending, they will see firsthand the beauty of the
room and if you’re not attending, then you can see some of the décor during all Sunday Masses at the Holy Family Center on May
18th.
The Raffle Ticket drawing will take place the evening of the Gala. If your ticket is drawn you will be notified by phone the next
day, or if in attendance you will know immediately.
Thank you to all who volunteered to help, donated items for the
auctions, sponsored, and/or supported this event in any way. It
takes the effort of many to be successful…we have such great people here at St. Bernard’s who give so freely of themselves for the
benefit of others and for this we are truly grateful.

Catholic Charities Provides Help, Creates Hope
Catholic Charities Sunday is May 17/18. With increasingly distressing federal and state budget cuts, your help is vital
in meeting the ongoing needs of the poor and vulnerable of our
Community. 100% of your contribution to Catholic Charities
stays within our communities. Last year Catholic Charities provided services to over 26,000 people. Please pray for those
who are most in need, and please plan to give as generously as
possible to “Provide help for Today and Hope for Tomorrow”.

Stay with us, Lord!
Walk with us, Lord, along the road of resurrection! Explain for
us, so slow to believe, the things that Scripture says of you. Break
the bread of the Eucharist with us whenever we share our lives with
our brothers and sisters. Stay with us each time night approaches
and the daylight fades in our hearts!

Volunteers Needed
The success of the Faith Formation of our children is due, in part, to the
generosity and dedication of volunteers. These volunteers, who become
Catechists, classroom aides, or program aides, share their faith and love
for Jesus while teaching the youth of our parish as they grow in the Faith.
We are in need of volunteers for the upcoming 2014-2015 season which begins in August. We will provide you with the training, tools, and support to assist you in this Ministry. If the Lord is calling you to be part of this ministry, please contact Henry Correa or Elvira Orozco at the Faith Formation Office @ 209-835-4560.

A Mother’s Heart
A Mother’s heart is always filled with love for her children,
with hopes and dreams for them,
with a never ending prayer that God blesses them with happiness;
that God will protect them from harm;
that God cares for them in her absence.
A Mother’s heart is always filled with love for her children and love for God.
Today, mom, we thank our Lord for the precious gift of you.
We are blessed because you are part of our lives.
We love you dearly and wish you the Lord’s choicest blessings today & always.

o destruidas. Sólo con Jesús estarán a salvo. Sólo con Jesús lograremos la vida eterna.

A Prayer for Young Adults
Gracious and Loving God,
Help these young men and women to be a
light for all the world to see, in all the places
they live and work.
Let their light shine for all peoples:
for their families,
for their church communiƟes,
for their cultures and socieƟes,
for the economic and poliƟcal systems,
for the whole world.
Coming into the room where the disciples
were gathered aŌer the resurrecƟon,
“Jesus, your son, said: ‘Peace be with
you’” (Jn 20:21)
Make these men and women bearers of
Christ’s peace. Teach them the meaning of
what was said on the mountain:
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
shall be called sons and daughters of
God” (cf Mt 5:9)
Send them, Father, as you sent your son: to
free their brothers and sisters from fear and
sin. We ask this of you, in Christ’s name.
Amen.

2014 Pastoral Council Candidates
Elections will be held the weekend of May 17/18 during all Masses.
Photos and information about the candidates are posted in the
Vestibule & at the entrance of Holy Family Center.
Jim Abell - My wife, her mom, and I moved to Tracy in November, 2012 after living in
Johnsburg, Il. for 32 years. While in Johnsburg I was very active in our parish serving as a Eucharist Minister, School Board, Youth Ministry, Confirmation preparation, and many committees and ministries. Even before we arrived at St Bernard's, I was very excited to be coming
here. When I heard St Bernard's had the Life Teen Program for high school students I was very
happy. I could not wait to settle in and get involved. Once were here, it took a little longer to
get moved in and settled than we thought, but we began getting acquainted with the ministries
of St Bernard's. I am now an active Greeter, Eucharist Minister, Religious Ed. Teacher, and a
member of the Youth Group. I have been so pleased to find all of the great activities and ministries such as Faith, Friends, and Cabernet and Faith on Tap. With our parish being the only
one in Tracy and serving a population of over 80,000 there is a lot of work to do. I am excited
to be a part of the future here and hope to be able to serve as we continue to grow and minister
in this wonderful community. I am very excited about the prospect of moving forward with our
Holy Family Center. With over 7,000 families currently on our census, with about 3,000 active,
we have a lot of evangelizing to do. I want to be a part of this process and helping to grow St
Bernard's.
My name is Miguel Chao. I was born and raised in Tracy and returned 10 years ago with a
family after college and my career took me to the Bay Area and Southern California for a number of years. I’ve had a 24 year long career with the Chevron Corporation in a variety of engineering, operations, and management roles including leading teams in the US and Latin America. My focus in life is my faith, my role as a husband, and my role as a father to two teenage
sons. I have many friends and family within St. Bernard’s community which have supported
and strengthened me in my journey as a Catholic and I have an interest in growing our catholic
way of life for current and future generations. Service to our Parish community has been a focus for our family. My wife, Patricia, and I are Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and
my sons, Miguel and Roberto, are Altar Servers. In addition, Patricia and I have been involved
in St. Bernard’s Pro-life Ministry. In the recent past, Patricia was privileged to serve both on
the Pastoral Council and the Parent Teacher Club of St. Bernard’s School. As a member of the
Knights of Columbus – Tracy Council, and its Financial Secretary up until recently, I have
worked with many wonderful catholic men and their families to support our priests and to raise
funds for local charities. I would be honored to continue my commitment to service if elected
as a member of the Pastoral Council.
St. Bernard’s Parish
My name is Daisy Dabandan. My family and I have been members of our parish for 12
years. Being a Sr. Consulting Manager for Oracle Financials Systems is my day job. I, with
my family, have had the privilege of serving in the music ministry at the 4pm Mass for the past
10 years. My husband and I are also active members and Household Leaders of “Couples for
Christ” (CFC), a recognized ministry in our Parish and by the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
We recently accepted the call to be Parent Coordinators for “Singles for Christ” in Central Valley. Our daughters serve as Cantor, Lector, and Eucharistic Minister. Our family carries within
us a heart of service and deep love for our faith. We are grateful for the chance to bring to the
parish, Scott Hahn’s Bible Study Series, which is open to all parishioners. The call to serve on
the Parish Council is indeed humbling. I hope and pray I will provide valuable insight in the
collaborative work to which the entire parish is called. I hope to fulfill my specific role to best
serve the life, ministry, and operation of the parish. Thank you and God bless.
My name is Alberto Estudillo, I have been married to my wife Lorena for 13 years. We
have 3 wonderful children: Bryan, 11; Brandon, 9; and Kimberly, 6. Currently I am the coordinator for the Lectors of the Spanish Masses and along with my wife, members of the Spanish
Marriage Preparation Team (PreCana). My wife and I became Lectors approximately 7 years
ago and have been involved in Spanish Marriage Preparation for the last 2 1/2 years. Our children have loved being a part of the Parish’s Faith Formation Program. Thank you for your consideration. May the Lord Bless You.
My name is Randy Pineda. I have lived in Tracy and have been a part of St. Bernard’s
Parish since 2006. I’m married to Rubee and we have three children. Our whole family serves
in parish choirs, singing or playing musical instruments. We’re members of Couples for Christ
(CFC), a family ministry that focuses on evangelization. My wife and I are the coordinators
for CFC-Youth for the whole Central Valley. We currently have over 100 teens from Tracy,
Mountain House, Lathrop, Manteca, Stockton, and Modesto. Our mission at CFC-Youth is,
“Young People Being and Bringing Christ Wherever They Are”. We help them deepen their
faith and relationship with Jesus Christ so they can share it with others. If elected, it would be
an honor to serve the parish as a member of the Pastoral Council.
My name is Jeff Ramsey, I have been married to my wife, Kim, for 33 years. I have 3 adult
sons and five grandchildren. I retired from The Alameda County Fire Department in 2009 after
32 years. I was baptized here at St. Bernard’s at the Easter Vigil in 1991. All three of our sons
attended St. Bernard’s School. Currently I volunteer at Tracy Interfaith Ministries and I am a
Eucharistic Minister. I have a very deep love for our Lord and in as much a very deep commitment to the Parish of St. Bernard’s and St. Bernard’s School. Thank you for your consideration
to represent you on the Pastoral Council.
My name is Debbie Rinaldo and I have been blessed with parents who instilled the importance of faith in me from day one. I've had the pleasure of growing up as a member of the
St. Bernard's Church since the age of two. And now, as a mom of two girls attending St. Bernard's School, my husband, Jimmy, and I are proud to instill the gift of faith in our daughters.
Professionally, I'm a Community Outreach Coordinator for a local hospital. My skills of working collaboratively with others to address community health concerns will support the Pastoral
Council's effort in enhancing the spiritual health of our St. Bernard's Family. It would be a
privilege to give to the glory of God through the Council's work and support our wonderful
parish and all the future generations of parishioners to come. Thank you for your consideration
and God bless.
