La ciudad huele a tomillo y a romero. Clarines, timbales, estandartes,
pendones, cofradías, hermandades, gigantes y cabezudos, todos ellos
sobre una alfombra de flores y con el aroma a incienso perfumando las
estrechas calles entoldadas y ricamente engalanadas para la ocasión…
es el Corpus toledano.

Continúa el sueño olímpico de Madrid
El Corpus Christi es la fiesta más importante de Toledo. Tiene sus orígenes allá por el siglo XIII y es la festividad de Corpus más bella que
existe. La solemne procesión sale de la Catedral a las 11 de la mañana
y recorre más de 2 kilómetros por las calles de la ciudad para terminar
otra vez en la Catedral.

Y para reponer fuerzas después de sumergirse en el Corpus toledano,
nada mejor que hospedarse en nuestra Hacienda del Cardenal y disfrutar de su gastronomía en el mejor entorno imaginable: un precioso
jardín en el que se puede comer y cenar, rodeado por la muralla árabe
de la ciudad y en el que también hay una terraza Chill Out para, cuando
el sol se retira, tomar una copa y cerrar así un día perfecto.
Además, de junio a septiembre, la Hacienda del cardenal ofrece espectáculos de música en directo todos los jueves, y de magia, los viernes.
The city is scented with thyme and rosemary. Bugles, timpani, banners, standards,
guilds, brotherhoods, giants and bigheads paraded on a carpet of flowers, with
the aroma of incense perfuming the narrow, richly decorated streets covered in
awnings… it is the Corpus Christi festivity in Toledo.
The Corpus Christi is Toledo’s most important feast day. Its origins go back to the
13th century and it is the most beautiful Corpus festivity in existence.The solemn
procession leaves the Cathedral at 11 in the morning and follows a 2-kilometre
route around the city streets, ending once again in the Cathedral.
And to regain one’s strength after being submerged in Toledo’s Corpus celebrations,
nothing better than staying at our Hacienda del Cardenal and enjoying its cuisine
in the best surroundings imaginable: a gorgeous garden where you can also lunch
and dine surrounded by the city’s Arabic walls, and where we also have a Chill Out
terrace for having a drink after sunset and so finishing off a perfect day.
In addition, from June to September, La Hacienda del Cardenal offers live music
shows every Thursday and magic performances on Fridays.

De momento hay que seguir hablando de sueño… nadie quiere
sufrir otra decepción pero, indudablemente, parece que la cosa marcha
bien y Madrid está en el buen camino.
For now we have to continue talking about a dream… no-one wants to
suffer another disappointment, but it undoubtedly looks like things are going well
and Madrid is set on the right path.
El pasado 23 de mayo. El COI, reunido en Quebec, anunció que Madrid
es una de las 3 ciudades candidatas oficiales para ser designadas sede de
los Juegos Olímpicos de 2020. La capital española consiguió la máxima
puntuación frente a sus competidoras Estambul y Tokio. El COI ha valorado enormemente el hecho de que Madrid presenta un proyecto muy
sólido, con el 78% de sus instalaciones ya construidas. Los responsables
del Ayuntamiento madrileño han anunciado que no se invertirá ni un euro
más en infraestructuras hasta que Madrid sea designada en firme como
sede olímpica.
On 23 May the IOC, meeting in Quebec, announced that Madrid is one of the
3 official candidate cities to host the 2020 Olympic Games. The Spanish capital
scored maximum points against its competitors Istanbul and Tokyo.The IOC has hugely appreciated the fact that Madrid is presenting a very solid project with 78%
of facilities already in place.The heads of Madrid City Hall have announced that
not a single further euro will be invested in infrastructures until Madrid has won
a firm appointment to host the Olympics.
Una satisfecha Ana Botella señaló, tras el anuncio del COI, que la concesión
de los Juegos para la capital supondría un proyecto muy ilusionante que sin
duda ayudaría a ir saliendo de la crisis económica en la que nos encontramos. De momento, entre los objetivos de los responsables de la candidatura madrileña está el convertirla en la candidatura de todos los españoles.

Habrá que esperar al 7 de septiembre de 2013 para, en Buenos Aires
y a ritmo de tango, llorar nuestra derrota o celebrar nuestra elección
como sede de los Juegos Olímpico de 2020. Ojalá esta vez sí… Madrid
se lo merece.
A greatly satisfied Ana Botella said, after the IOC’s announcement, that the Games
would give the capital a very exciting project that would undoubtedly help to boost
the flagging economy. For now, among the objectives of the team heading the Madrid candidature is that of making these the Games for all Spaniards.
We will have to wait until 7 September 2013, the date when, in Buenos Aires and
to the rhythm of the tango, we will either cry over our defeat or celebrate being
chosen to host the 2020 Olympic Games. Let us hope that this time it will happen… Madrid deserves it.

El teatro del Circo Price se convierte en el escenario principal
Los veranos de la villa se ponen a cubierto

[The Price Circus Theatre turns into the main stage. The summers in the city take cover]
El Ayuntamiento madrileño ha decidido aparcar los escenarios al aire libre para la edición de este año de los Veranos de la Villa. La mayor parte de los espectáculos tendrán lugar en el Teatro Circo Price. Únicamente, los jardines de Sabatini
albergarán algo de zarzuela, danza o flamenco.
Pero que no se desanimen los amantes de los conciertos a la luz de la luna, acompañados de una cervecita… e incluso un cigarrito. Pere Pinyol, director del circo estable de la capital, ha señalado que, aunque el escenario sea cubierto, habrá agradables
terrazas de verano en los espacios abiertos del Price.
Entre los artistas que ya han confirmado su participación en los Veranos de la Villa 2012 están: La mexicana, Julieta Benegas,
el italiano Franco Battiato o el baladista norteamericano, Michael Bolton.
Las actuaciones en el Price comenzarán todas a las 21.00 h. y bueno… la gran ventaja es que ya no habrá que preocuparse si
un chaparrón de verano decide aguarnos la fiesta.
En colaboración con el Museo del Louvre, el Prado
presenta esta exposición dedicada a la etapa tardía de la obra
de Rafael Sanzio (1483-1520), uno de los pintores más influyentes del arte occidental.
In collaboration with the Louvre Museum, the Prado is
hosting this exhibition dedicated to the final phase of the work of
Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520), one of the most influential painters
in western art.
Rafael fue un pintor y arquitecto del Alto Renacimiento. Se
le consideró niño precoz al demostrar muy pronto sus habilidades artísticas. Fue un artista muy prolífico a pesar de
su temprana muerte, con tan solo 37 años. La característica
fundamental de su obra es la serenidad y la armonía. Los expertos dividen su producción artística en tres etapas: la primera de ellas en Umbría, la segunda en Florencia y la tercera
y última, la más brillante, la de Roma.
Raphael was a painter and architect of the High Renaissance. His
was considered a precocious talent, as he demonstrated his artistic
abilities at a very early age. He was a highly prolific artist despite
his early death at only 37. His work’s fundamental characteristics
are serenity and harmony. Experts divide his artistic production into
three phases: the first of them in Umbria, the second in Florence and
the third, last and most brilliant one in Rome.
La muestra que ahora podemos disfrutar en el Prado hace un
recorrido por más de 70 obras, 40 pinturas y 30 dibujos, del
pintor italiano, todas ellas realizadas en sus 7 últimos años de
vida. Entre estas obras figuran algunas tan célebres el cuadro
del Altar de Santa Cecilia o el retrato de Baldasare Castiglione. También pueden contemplarse obras de algunos de sus
discípulos como Giulio Romano o Giovanni Francesco.
The show that we can now enjoy at the Prado Museum gives us an
overview of more than 70 works and 30 drawings by the Italian
painter, all of them produced in the last 7 years of his life. Among
these works are some very famous ones such as the St Cecilia altarpiece or the portrait of Baldassare Castiglione.We will also be able
to view works by some of his disciples, such as Giulio Romano or
Giovanni Francesco.
Madrid City Hall has decided to forego open-air stages for this year’s edition of Summers in the City.The majority of spectacles will
take place in the Price Circus Theatre. Only the Sabatini gardens will host a few zarzuela, dance and flamenco performances.
But this should not discourage lovers of moonlit concerts accompanied by a beer… and even a cigarette. Pere Pinyol, the director of the capital’s
stable circus, has pointed out that even though the stage is covered, there will be pleasant summer terraces in the open spaces of the Price Circus.
Among the artists who have confirmed their participation in the Summers in the City 2012 are the Mexican Julieta Benegas, the Italian Franco
Battiato and the North American balladeer Michael Bolton.
Performances at the Price will all begin at 9 pm and of course… the great advantage is that we need no longer worry whether a summer shower
will spoil the show.
