The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. Page 3 Church of the Nativity, Brockport, New York Fr. Joe’s Week: Last Thursday was Holy Thursday. We rehearsed with the servers at 6:30, and then our bilingual Mass of the Lord’s Supper began at 7:30, with the participation of the Newman Community and our own Hispanic Community. Thanks to those who took part, especially the MGM crew who dressed the altar. We had lectors and communion ministers from all communities and all managed to work it out…That evening we closed the adoration with night prayer at 10pm…Friday we rehearsed the servers in the morning. The Solemn Service was lovely, with lots of silence and chanting. I went to the Eagle for fish fry in the evening, joining some friends for supper… Saturday morning we decorated in the morning—it was a good crew of hard workers led by Cindy Graves. I tried to stay out of their way. We also rehearsed our RCIA candidates in the morning, working out where they would stand and all. Later that morning our servers prepared their parts. It was a full morning!...After confessions in the afternoon our Easter Vigil service began at 7:30. We were joined by the Newman Community, who provided excellent readers and help with communion and the celebration of the Easter Sacraments. Our service was about 2 hours, which is not too long considering we had both a Baptism and a Reception into Full Communion…Sunday’s Masses were full—we certainly need two Easter Sunday Masses. We gave out Communion at the break in the pews halfway down the aisle, and it seemed to work very well… Thanks to all who do so much all year for our worship, our musicians and sacristans, servers and lectors, communion ministers and MGM, decorators and greeters. You give our parish the blessings of God in your gift of ministry…Easter Sunday I slept most of the afternoon, but was awakened by a call from the Sisters of Charity in Wellesley, MA. My Aunt Joey, Sr. Maria Joseph Foley, had passed away at 2am on that Easter Sunday. Joey was my mother’s sister, and a great lady. I agreed to come to Boston and celebrate her funeral Mass…Tuesday, after the Mass at the Landing, I left for Boston. It’s a 6+ hour drive and I got to the Charity Mother House just about 9pm. Several sisters were waiting for me, and graciously showed me into a guest suite. The next day we had Joey’s funeral. I got to see many relatives—sadly I only see them at funerals. The sisters took care of all the details and it was a lovely celebration. I had to leave directly from the cemetery to return home just on time for a meeting at 7pm. It was our planning group—the details are elsewhere on this page…God bless and have a good week! April 3, 2016 Congratulations to Kristen Sharpe who was Received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil here at Nativity on March 26th. Kristen and her husband Peter live on the County Line Road and have three kids in college. Kristen received Confirmation and First Communion on Holy Saturday after preparing since September in our RCIA program. Perhaps you know of someone who would like to become a Catholic at next year’s Easter Vigil. Why not invite them to consider the RCIA?! This coming Wednesday, April 6, at 7 pm, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bishop Matano will confirm three adults from our parish: Linda Dawley, Jacqueline Henry, an d James Waterman. All ar e in vited to attend—several parishes will be represented from all over the diocese. It should be a lovely celebration. Call to Nativity Our Planning Committee met this past Wednesday. Joining us were Eric Patchke and Sean Moran from the Diocese. They are the professionals who work for DOR advising parishes on building projects—Eric has been in maintenance and construction for many years and Sean is a licensed architect. Sean is new to his job; in fact , we are his first project for the diocese, although he has lots of experience in working on local church projects as an architect. We toured our site. They recommended that we invite a number of design firms to come at the same time to see our site, ask questions, so they can decide whether they are interested in working with us. We would then hire a firm to come up with options so we can have a plan to present to the Diocese for approval. It’s beginning to move along. Pray for us as a parish that we make good decisions. All decisions will be made involving parish discussion and input. The Brockport CROP WALK will take place Sunday, May 1. The walkers will gather at Sagawa Park at 1 pm for a short welcome, then stroll along the lovely streets of our village raising money for our local food shelf as well as other food related charities. Families with children as well as adults and teens are all encouraged to join in this event. We are competing with the other local churches for number of walkers and money raised. Pledge sheets will be available in early April. Plan your walking group!
