Earlier this year, through a Special Session, the CA legislature passed assisted suicide, allowing doctors to prescribe overdose medication to terminally ill patients. Join a coalition of physicians, nurses, disability-rights organizations, and people of all faiths to stand for the lives of our elderly and dying and oppose assisted suicide! On the weekends of December 5/6, 12/13, &19/20 petitions will be available for signature outside of Masses. Signers must be registered to vote in California and can only sign once. Why Oppose Assisted Suicide? • Sends the Wrong Message: Legalizing suicide for the terminally ill, while discouraging it for the rest of the population, teaches that the lives of the ill and disabled do not matter to our society. • Will Worsen Patient Care: Patients in other states, like Barbara Wagner in Oregon, are being denied treatment prescribed by their doctors, and instead offered drugs for assisted suicide. • Will Increase Non-Terminal Suicide Rates: Suicides skyrocket when assisted suicide is legalized. Oregon's suicide rate for non-terminal people increased 49% after assisted suicide became legal. YOUTH MINISTRY AND FAMILY EVANGELIZATION Information on Youth, Young Adults, Mission trips, Retreats and Family Catechesis What does Comprehensive Youth Ministry look like here? From the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision: “If parishes are to be worthy of the loyalty and active participation of youth, they will need to become "youth-friendly" communities in which youth have a conspicuous presence in parish life. These are parish communities that value young people—welcoming them into their midst; listening to them; responding to their needs; supporting them with prayer, time, facilities, and money. These are parish communities that see young people as resources—recognizing and empowering their gifts and talents, giving them meaningful roles in leadership and ministry, and encouraging their contributions. These are parish communities that provide young people with opportunities for intergenerational relationships—developing relationships with adults who serve as role models and mentors. In short, "youth-friendly" parish communities make a commitment to young people and their growth.” If you see a young adult in Mass by themselves or with one or two others, give them a smile and a introduce yourself. Make them fell welcomed and supported and help them to find out more about this beautiful community of believers. Your welcome will tell them more about this community than all the sermons and webpages out there.
