“For you were called to freedom, brothers and
sisters. But do not use this freedom as an
opportunity for the flesh; rather serve one
another through love.”
GALATIANS 5:13
We like to celebrate the fact that we are free to
“live the good life.” But Jesus calls us to a
different kind of freedom. St. Paul reminds us
that Jesus sets us free so that we can serve one another,
share our gifts and promote God’s work here on earth to
glorify His name and not honor ourselves.

Called for freedom
No yoke of slavery for us. Even though people are
shackled, suppressed, oppressed — and even though I
may be, too — we are, called for freedom. Christ, in
his Paschal Mystery, his death and rising, has set us
free. Baptism makes us new and sets us free. The old
and the new law — “love your neighbor as yourself”
— set us free. Singing the song for the gathering of
the gifts during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s
Supper this past (and every) Holy Thursday – Ubi
Caritas – sets us free.
 What yoke will I step out of to be free?
 Who can I help into freedom in this Mercy Year?
 Who will I love … as myself?

FYI to Hold Breakfast Meetings
If you are like I am, we are tired of burying
teens and young adults who make choices that
lead to risky behaviors that take their lives
before they can truly find the purpose God has
for them. Throughout the summer, beginning
June 29, Family & Youth Initiatives (FYI) is going to hold
a series of coffee meetings to discuss what can be done to
help our young. They will be held every other Wednesday
morning from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at FYI headquarters,
468 North Dayton Lakeview Rd, (Route 235) just south of
New Carlisle.
We will discuss what else we can do to help our teens get
to their 20s alive and well. Please come to listen,
participate, and to make suggestions on how to understand
our teens better. We will provide the coffee and donuts
and we ask you to bring your worries, thoughts, and
suggestions about how best to help our teens. We all have
ideas, let’s see if we can put any into action.

Need uplifted spiritually??
Take advantage of a wonderful
learning experience that literally comes
to you, wherever you are. All you need
is a CD player! In the car, standing at
the kitchen sink doing dishes, while
exercising …now you can deepen your
understanding and love for the faith! A kiosk display stand
offering audio talks can be found in the gathering space.
These CDs feature some of the most inspiring Catholic
speakers — bishops, priests, deacons, Catholic professors
and many more. A $3.00 suggested donation per CD is a
great way for you to take advantage of this opportunity to
learn, live, and share your Catholic Faith.
There are CDs on parenting, prayer, confession, the
Eucharist, angels, Mary, Divine Mercy and more subjects.

SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH
In the second collection today, we
are supporting Pope Francis in his
charitable works. The Peter’s
Pence Collection is taken up
worldwide to support our brothers
and sisters on the margins of
society, including victims of war,
oppression, and natural disasters.
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the
collection is an opportunity to join
with Pope Francis and be a
witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters.
Please be generous in today’s collection.

~ Sacred Heart Catholic Church — July 2016 ~

mismos.
Gracias Carolyn
