Fourth Sunday of Easter
Cuarto Domingo de Pascua
This Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally
referred to as “Good Shepherd Sunday.”
Today we listen to the words of the Lord as
he refers to himself as the “good shepherd
who lays down his life for the sheep.” It is
sometimes so difficult for us to grasp the
reality that anyone would lay down his or
her own life for the sake of someone else.
This is especially true in a society that
places high value on power and personal
advancement, often at the cost of
“trampling” on other people in order to climb
the ladder. Today’s scriptures point to the
one we are called to emulate—the one who
lays down his life for his sheep. Today’s
scriptures challenge us to discover ways to
bring life to those around us—to build up
rather than to tear down.
El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua
tradicionalmente se conoce como el
“Domingo del Buen Pastor”. Hoy
escuchamos las palabras del Señor
cuando se llama a sí mismo “el buen
pastor que da la vida por sus ovejas.” A
alrededor –a construir y no a destruir.

The Dance, a means to evangelize
by Danny Benitez
For eight months now, I have been blessed to share with a group of ladies my
passion for dance. These ladies par cipate in my Zumba dance class and they enjoy
a ending Zumba every Wednesday and Sunday, offered here at Saint Dominic
Savio Parish. It's a very interes ng group. At the beginning, I saw this ac vity as a
way to exercise the body, for good health, and to enjoy music. Besides those
reasons, the dance is also a medium that a racts the a en on of people. This is
my opportunity to use these ac vi es to make a difference in the lives of those
around me. It’s something to offer to the community, but with a different
approach. It has also helped me realize more and more that as Salesians, we can be
very innova ve and crea ve.
Before star ng the class, I share with the group some
Salesian quotes (sayings) or a verse from the Gospel,
i.e. the parable of the talents, or a story about my
experience at this adventure as a Salesian volunteer to
help them see things differently. When I was in the
missions of Tijuana, Mexico, in December, I shared a
phrase that had impacted me on the trip: "The trash of
the wealthy is the wealth of the poor.” Many shared
their own experiences, which makes the group grow.
All this, in order for them to learn that it is important
to appreciate what we have and make their children appreciate what they have.
For me, Zumba is a place where people can relieve their stress and a space for
people to escape concerns from work or home. In fact, one of the par cipants
men oned that thanks to the class she has managed to put aside the familial
depression that was taking place. I start to see that Zumba class is beyond the
dance. I feel that this lady has found an
important value to life. God uses music,
singing, technology, and dancing in order to
help a person feel loved. I really appreciate
the dedica on, commitment and passion that
these women have. They have helped me
value my own passions and find comfort in
doing what I love to do most.
