We have donated funds from our annual charitable expenditures and will also be providing on-site volunteer construction. The house (in progress) is located off Falling Creek Road. Construction begins at 8:00 AM and lunch is at 12:00 PM. At this time, we have more of a need for the lunch crew than the construction crew! Our lunch providers are asked to prepare lunch and also to serve it. If you can help with this wonderful opportunity of charitable outreach in our community, call Dick Flanegin at 256-0010. PERPETUAL ADORATION The immeasurable sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, dying on the cross to save the world, cannot compare. How can we give back a little? We can be one of God’s prayer warriors at the Adoration Chapel, spending one holy hour a week. If you feel you are being called, please contact Dave or Melanie King at 828-638-0462 or email [email protected] or sign up at the parish website, http://www.staloysiushickory.org/parishioners/forms. There is an immediate need for Adorers for the following hours: Mondays 2AM3AM, Thursdays 2AM-3AM and 6AM-7AM. Thank you! ADULT MISSION TRIP You are invited to join a handful of faith filled Adults traveling to Philly, PA for a week of work at St. Francis Inn, a Kensington neighborhood soup kitchen run by Franciscans on November 15 – 20, 2015. We rise early for Daily Mass and work hard all day (with breaks for lunch, and hopefully afternoon, before serving the guests dinner.) There are upwards of 400+ guests coming each day for a meal. At the days end we gather for Evening Prayer and then share our evening meal together. There are many “jobs” to be completed each day in order to serve all these hungry people coming from many different walks in life. There are young families, the elderly, the disabled, the afflicted and everyone in between. All are treated as guests at St. Francis Inn. Giving a week to work at The Inn offers countless blessings! Pray about it, and if interested or seeking more information, contact Marie Martino at 828-324-7929. Por favor no falten… …that this is the largest group of First Graders ever in our Faith Formation Program? We have 125 children in First Grade and approximately 500 more in Grade 2 through Grade 8. That’s a lot of volunteer catechists (teachers) needed! We have several openings on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. We especially need catechists for Wednesday afternoon First Grade. We encourage all adults to prayerfully consider becoming a catechist. You don’t need to have a child in the program, and the rewards are great. All volunteers must be checked through our Safe Environment program. We will provide training and support along the way. Please contact Monica Ebelhack in the Faith Formation Office at 327-2341. If you don’t teach the next generation about God, who will? BLOOD DRIVE RESULTS Sixty-two pints of blood were donated during our August 11th Blood Drive! Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who helped make this possible. Special thanks to Jon Boyer and Lowe’s Foods for the donation of food. We are also very grateful to our faithful volunteers: Sarah Gerhardt, Andy Morgan, Myrna Livas and Nan Lacey. Last but definitely not least, thanks to coordinators Christine Gates and Judy Abernethy. CCM AUGUST FOOD DRIVE Since CCM can purchase 3-4 times as much food through their wholesalers at the same cost as we can buy retail, you also have the option to give a monetary donation to CCM either with or instead of your usual food donation. Should you choose to give monetarily, this should in no way cut into your weekly tithing to the church, but should be in addition to it, just as it would be if you bought extra food to donate. You may take a pre-addressed envelope from the hallway table on your way out to assist in your giving. You will need to mail them, please. Checks are to be made out to either “GHCCM” or “Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry”, with “Food Pantry” on the Memo/For line. If you prefer to give food items, please remember healthy non-perishable canned, bagged, boxed and bottled foods placed in the rolling bin under the table across from the restrooms. Thank you to… CANELLA HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING, INC. PARISHIONERS for sponsoring an ad in our weekly bulletin. PLEASE PATRONIZE OUR ADVERTISERS RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is available to anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith, either non-baptized, baptized in a different faith tradition, or baptized Catholic with no further faith formation.
