School Office: (805) 648-6836 Weekly Reflection Reflexión Semanal Our Awesome God Nuestro Formidable Dios Today’s readings and prayers focus on the relationship of God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The Preface speaks of God “not in the unity of a single person, but in a Trinity of one substance.” This feast comes immediately after Pentecost to celebrate the interaction of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the salvation story. At his Ascension, Jesus promised that his love would become manifest to the disciples in ways not previously realized. Jesus explains this in the Gospel, “When he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth«. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.” The Communion Antiphon taken from Saint Paul’s letter to the Galatians 4:6 proclaims, “Since you are children of God, God has sent into your hearts the Spirit of his Son, the Spirit who cries out: Abba, Father.” These words signal the completion of Jesus’ sacrifice and the restoration of our relationship with His Father. The Holy Spirit has been sent to open our hearts and minds to this understanding. The gifts and fruits that the Holy Spirit bestows help us build relationships with God and one another that are based on the love the Father and Son have for each other. This love must be the basis for all our relationships which are guided by the two great commandments that Jesus taught us: “Thou shall love thy Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.” And “Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself.” All our interactions with God and one another should reflect this love, this Spirit. Therefore, we aspire to live so as to praise our God and proclaim his wonderful name throughout the earth. Parish News Religious Education Our First Communion Begins a Journey for Life Our Lady of the Assumption School Ask most Catholics and they can tell you all about their First Communion experience. For many it is the happiest and most enjoyable day for them and for their families. As second graders, we had reached the age of reason. We know right from wrong. More importantly, we knew that we were receiving something special. It was something more than bread and wine, and that was the first step into the world of Mystery. We loved the attention, the new clothes, the ceremony, and the pictures. It was a time of feeling holy, being close to Jesus and it was a time of great innocence. Life was good and simple. We just were! Many of our children will receive their First Communion in the next few weeks and we want to celebrate this great event and new relationship with them. The best way for us to do this is to rediscover this Mystery for ourselves. May it be a time for all of us to renew our own experience of Jesus in the Eucharist. Jesus is the food who nourishes our spiritual and physical life for the journey that we are all engaged. "We become who we receive", says St. Augustine. Therefore, we are called and chosen to become the image of Christ for others in so many ways. Jesus is not a mask that we wear but the life-blood that energizes us. Ours is to live with the consciousness of Jesus as we love God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourself. What a difference life holds for us if we love, think, and envision the world around us with the heart, heart, and the eyes of Christ. If this can happen, then we are refreshed by our new life in Christ and every day is an experience of Communion with the Body of Christ. May the Love of Christ fill us with Joy - Fr.
