The Baptism of the Lord
First Reading Is 40:1-5, 9-11
Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her
guilt is expiated; indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins. A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the
way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill shall
be made low; the rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
and all people shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Go up on to a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings;
cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to the cities of Judah: Here is your God!
Here comes with power the Lord GOD, who rules by a strong arm; here is his reward with him, his recompense before him. Like a
shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his bosom, and leading the ewes with care.

Second Reading Ti 2:11-14; 3:4-7
Beloved: The grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately,
justly, and devoutly in this age, as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of our great God and savior Jesus Christ, who
gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his own, eager to do what is good. When
the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared, not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy,
He saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our
savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. Alleluia cf. Mk 9:7 R. Alleluia, alleluia. The
heavens were opened and the voice of the Father thundered: This is my beloved Son, listen to him. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Or cf. Lk 3:16

The people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ. John answered them all,
saying, “I am baptizing you with water, but one mightier than I is coming. I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying,
heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my
beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Una voz clama: “Preparen el camino del Señor en el desierto, construyan en el páramo una calzada para nuestro Dios. Que todo valle se
eleve, que todo monte y colina se rebajen; que lo torcido se enderece y lo escabroso se allane. Entonces se revelará la gloria del Señor y
todos los hombres la verán”. Así ha hablado la boca del Señor. Sube a lo alto del monte, mensajero de buenas nuevas para Sión; alza

Querido hermano: La gracia de Dios se ha manifestado para salvar a todos los hombres y nos ha enseñado a renunciar a la vida sin
religión y a los deseos mundanos, para que vivamos, ya desde ahora, de una manera sobria, justa y fiel a Dios, en espera de la gloriosa
venida del gran Dios y Salvador, Cristo Jesús, nuestra esperanza. Él se entregó por nosotros para redimirnos de todo pecado y
purificarnos, a fin de convertirnos en pueblo suyo, fervorosamente entregado a practicar el bien. Al manifestarse la bondad de Dios,
nuestro salvador, y su amor a los hombres, él nos salvó, no porque nosotros hubiéramos hecho algo digno de merecerlo, sino por su
misericordia. Lo hizo mediante el bautismo, que nos regenera y nos renueva, por la acción del Espíritu Santo, a quien Dios derramó

En aquel tiempo, como el pueblo estaba en expectación y todos pensaban que quizá Juan el Bautista era el Mesías, Juan los sacó de
dudas, diciéndoles: “Es cierto que yo bautizo con agua, pero ya viene otro más poderoso que yo, a quien no merezco desatarle las
correas de sus sandalias. Él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego”. Sucedió que entre la gente que se bautizaba, también Jesús
fue bautizado. Mientras éste oraba, se abrió el cielo y el Espíritu Santo bajó sobre él en forma sensible, como de una paloma, y del cielo
llegó una voz que decía: “Tú eres mi Hijo, el predilecto; en ti me complazco”.

The Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord ends the Christmas Season. In the Gospel, Jesus hears his heavenly Father
call him “beloved” as he prays after his Baptism in the Jordan. Our Baptism marks us, too, as God’s “beloved” and as
witnesses to his redeeming love. In what ways do we show that love to family members and to others? – Go to

The St. Pius V Youth Group—Important Dates:
January 8th: Mandatory parents meeting. This year, the
Youth Group will be attending the Steubenville Youth
Conference in Dallas, Tx. This conference is for all highschool teens. If any youth between the ages of 14-18 wish
to attend, parents must attend this mandatory meeting.
The meeting will be from 7-9 p.m. in the cafeteria.
January 8th-9th: Youth Group Lock-In. We are kicking
off the New Year with a bang! Join us for our overnight
lock-in. The cost to attend is $10 per student. The night
will consist of talks focusing on rebirth, New Year and
other fun activities. The lock in will begin
at 9:30p.m. and pick up time is 9a.m. the next morning.
All high-school teens are invited to join. Come start the
New Year off with the St. Pius Youth Group to make
new friendships through faith, all while having fun. We
hope to see you there!
