Divine Mercy is something that we all should continuously be
asking of God, not just for us as individuals, but especially for us
as the fallen and broken humanity. Of course, the main reason for
us to ask for mercy should be our love for God and our desire to
live eternally in heaven in God's presence. We know that "the Lord
is kind and merciful", however we also know that sooner or
later God will judge our deeds. So it is wise to be in the grace of
God and to use all the help there is for us and our salvation.
Embracing the devotion to the divine mercy is a way for us to
be transformed in the mercy of God.
This year at St. Theresa for the first time, we celebrate the
feast day of Divine Mercy on this Sunday following Easter in a
bilingual Mass. The Divine Mercy message is the key revelation
that God’s mercy is unfailing and infinite. We, the faithful, are
asked to be forgiving and merciful toward all, to completely trust
in God and to prayerfully request God’s mercy for us and the
entire world.
Sister Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament, born Helen
Kowalska on April 25, 1905, in the vicinity of Lodz, Poland, joined
the Congregation of the Sisters of our Lady of Mercy at the age of
19, and became the first person to be elevated to sainthood in the
new millennium (April 30, 2000) by Pope John Paul, II. Sr. Maria
Faustina began keeping a diary of her mystical experiences and
visions at the request of her spiritual director in 1934. She died in
1938 as a result of tuberculosis and her diary (titled ‘Divine Mercy
in My Soul’) was published and translated into many different
languages. This diary recorded the appearance of Christ in a
vision to St. Faustina in 1931. According to her diary entry, He
commanded her to have a painting made of this vision along with
the motto ’Jesus, I trust in you.’ Sister Maria Faustina personally
supervised the initial painting of her vision. In the Divine Mercy
image, Jesus is shown robed in white with His hands and feet
displaying the nail marks of the Crucifixion. His right hand is
raised in a blessing gesture and His left hand points to His heart
with two rays of light, one red and one white, shining forth from it.
The red ray recalls the blood and the white ray the water that
flowed when His heart was pierced with a sword during His
crucifixion. The two rays represent Christ’s inexhaustible stream
of Divine Mercy for all who trust in Him.
During the Second World War, 1939-1945, devotion to the
Divine Mercy Chaplet gained popularity in Poland and Lithuania,
eventually reaching the United States. Though Sr. Faustina’s
writings were temporarily banned from 1958 until 1978 while the
Vatican officials reviewed them in light of the doctrine of the
Church, the ban was lifted in April 1978 with the assistance of
then Archbishop of Kracow, Poland, Carol Wojtyla, who later that
same year became Pope John Paul II. The established prayer of
the Divine Mercy Chaplet can be found online at ‘Divine Mercy
Chaplet-Online Prayer’ and can be prayed using ordinary rosary
beads.
I encourage everyone to incorporate the prayer of the Divine
Mercy Chaplet imploring mercy on us and on the whole world into
their prayer life as often as possible.
May God Bless us and have mercy on us and on the whole world,
Fr. Fernando Molina-Restrepo, Pastor
APRIL 11, 2010 / 11 DE ABRIL DE 2010
PENSAMIENTOS Y MEDITACIONES
traducido a diferentes lenguas.

REJOICE! HE IS RISEN! ALÉGRENSÉ! ¡HA RESUCITADO!
“Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believed,” Jesus says in today’s Gospel. For those
who have not seen to believe, however, we must be good stewards of our faith, living it joyfully
and sharing it generously. Then, in our time too, “men and women in great numbers” will be
“added to the Lord.”
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
GRACIAS FOR SU GENEROSIDAD!
Thank you so very much to all the generous parishioners who provided the multiple bags of individually
wrapped candy to fill the hundreds of Easter eggs we used for the children’s Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday!
We could not have had a successful event without your kindness and generosity! Thank You! And a special
Thank you to all those who helped to stuff the many eggs with the candy! You are so very much appreciated!
agradecidos!
ATTENTION: SINGLES
OF
ST. THERESA/ATENCIÓN: SOLTEROS
DE
ST. TERESITA
SINGLES OF ST. THERESA’S (SST) is a Singles Ministry being formed within our parish, welcoming
all single, widowed, divorced or separated members of our Parish Community over the age of 45. SST is still the
planning stages, but our plan is to offer a faith-based ministry which would involve meeting monthly or quarterly
on a weekend afternoon or evening on the church premises for fellowship, encouraging a “circle of friends” to be
formed among the unmarried members of our parish. In addition to meeting to encourage fellowship as a
Ministry, we hope to eventually offer speakers discussing various topics of interest and to offer some activities
which singles with children could participate in as well. At some point hope to include Catholic singles of our
neighboring parishes and have smaller age-specific groups within the Singles Ministry.
Because many of our church activities are family-oriented, a single person within our parish can easily
feel isolated and alone. We welcome you and hope you will join our Singles Ministry here at St. Theresa's. Please
help us form a new circle of single friends within our parish. Please contact Diana at 770-949-0196 or
[email protected] if you are interested in joining SST.
