respuesta: nuestra caridad. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

provided envelopes for your donations at the entrance; you may take
one and return it in the collection. Checks should be made directly to
the St. James Altar Society. Your donations will be acknowledged thanks to those who have already given!

THE LORD OF LIFE
At this bountiful time of year, our Sunday readings teem
with life and abundance. Both the first reading, from the book
of Wisdom, and the Gospel passage from Mark assure us that
God did not make death or even will us to be ill. Illness and
death entered the world through the presence of evil, the Wisdom author tells us. Mark’s stories of Jesus healing a hemorrhaging woman and resuscitating a dead little girl make it clear
that Jesus is from God. As the Son of God he does not will that
anyone suffer illness or death. In the face of such power, the
second reading, from Paul’s Second
Letter to the Corinthians, provides a
stark contrast. Jesus, who could raise
the dead to new life, “though he was
rich, for your
sake he became
poor” (2 Corinthians 8:9). Our gift of
new life from Christ demands our
response in charity.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Welcome, Fr. Jason! Our new Parochial Vicar, Fr. Jason
Martini, will arrive this Wednesday, July 1. You will have the
opportunity to meet him at a very informal reception to be held
at St. James Hall this Thursday, July 2, 6:30-8 pm. The hall
will be open early; bring munchies and/or pastries. Our parish
will furnish drinks and paper goods. St. Patrick’s in Waelder
will have their own opportunity to say hello to Fr. Jason after
the 11:30 am mass next Sunday, July 5. Also next weekend,
Frs. Paul and Jason will concelebrate all the masses at our three
churches.
St. James Festival is three weeks away! Meal tickets to sell
have gone out to St. James families, and we appreciate the efforts of all in selling them. Please invite others to gather with
us around tables to share both food and friendship, as did Jesus
and his friends so many times in the gospels. And begin inviting others to join us for liturgy at the 9:30 mass that Sunday, as
we begin our day gathered around the Eucharistic Table. See
the flyer in this bulletin for details, or go to CCGAW.ORG.
Call Mrs. Connie Thomas, 512-393-8519, for information; and
Mrs. Shirley Hodges, 830-857-4896 for meal tickets.
The weekend of July 19 will be a busy one for our parish family; our Teen ACTS Retreat will take place (registration still
open; forms in back of church) as well as our St. James Festival. Our teens will return to the 8 am mass on the 19th and we
look forward to a great welcome for them. The St. James Mass
at 9:30 will also be very special as we welcome friends and
family members who come for the festival. Good thing we’ll
have two priests by then!
“Thank You Gathering” for Sacred Heart Festival Workers - you are invited this Tuesday, June 30, to a gathering at
Sacred Heart Hall, to enjoy some time together and have a

From Pope Francis’ Encyclical “Laudato Si”: “Our insistence that each human being is an image of God should not
make us overlook the fact that each creature has its own purpose. None is superfluous. The entire material universe speaks
of God’s love, his boundless affection for us. Soil, water,
mountains: everything is, as it were, a caress of God.” (p. 84)
hacia nosotros.”
