PARISH MINISTRY FAIR
CHARISMS & GIFTS
WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 24 & 25
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I would like to thank you very much for taking an interest in your spiritual growth and also I am asking that
you may look at yourself in a new way and what gifts you have to offer to each other and to the world around
you. Look within your heart, recognize the gifts that have been given to you and to see if there is a way to
share these gifts with others. Your personal charisms, the gifts you have been given, can well be put to use
in our Church and School today! On the weekend of September 24 and 25 after the Saturday 5:00 and the
6:30 pm Vietnamese masses, as well as the Sunday 7:30, 9:00, 11:00 am, the 12:30 Spanish and the 5:00
pm masses, we will be having our Parish Ministry Fair in the Hall.
Please plan to visit the booths to see what your parish is up to and how your special talents and abilities can be
put to use right here with your fellow parishioners. We have many long-standing ministries and so many,
many more. Along with these there are also a few new groups like the Stewardship and Construction Ministries that may benefit from your knowledge, background and aptitude.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the Parish Ministry Fair and having you discover how alive and active
your Parish is and how you too can be a part of her! I am grateful to you for your constant prayers and loving
supports for our St. Cecilia. May God reward and bless you and your family abundantly.
Peace,
Fr. Bao

Altar Server
Ministry
Next Scheduled Training:
Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 5:45
pm in the Church.
The ministry of altar server is open to all boys and
girls in the parish and school who are at least 10
years old and have received their First Holy Communion. As an active minister in the Mass, altar
serving enables you to gain a greater appreciation
and understanding of your faith, and of the Liturgy
of the Church. It also promotes responsibility, service and leadership.
During training, potential servers become familiar
with the various parts of the Mass, and what roles
our Altar Servers play during parts of the Liturgy.
Following the training, new servers are assigned to
shadow an experienced server for some hands-on
training during the Saturday morning 8:00 a.m.
mass. Follow-up training is then offered a few
weeks later until the server is ready to be incorporated into the weekend schedule.
We invite all those who are interested and meet the
requirements to pray on this special call to service.
If you would like more information or would like
to sign up, please call Ron & Marla Rodriguez at
714-290-5459 or send an e-mail to:
[email protected]. Thank you.

Women’s Ministry
Friday Morning...
Ladies, mark your calendars for the beginning of the
fall session of Women’s Ministry, which will begin
on Friday, Sept. 23 at 9:15 am in the Kuper Center.
We look forward to seeing old friends and welcoming new ones as we begin the study of Hans Christian Andersen and how his works relate to the Bible
and to our lives. It will be such fun to see how children’s fairy tales can have so much meaning for
adults. This study is open to all women of the parish
and will provide an opportunity not only to learn
more about our faith, but to be able to share our
thoughts with others.
The cost for this session is $20, which will cover
speakers, printing, and supplies. No one will be
turned away due to inability to pay. We welcome
you, even if you can attend only limited meetings.
Sept. 23 Speaker: Deborah Tracy: Pope Francis

building available.
For this series, we will be reading, "Conversations

Her Mission and Her Great Love For God". Mother
Teresa was canonized on September 4. This series
coincides with her canonization and the Year of
Mercy which Pope Francis has decreed.
You may pre-register by calling Virginia Mort (714328-1304), at the first night of the series on September 22, or at the registration table after Mass.

St. Cecilia Catholic
Book Club
Please join us on Tuesday, Sept. 27, in
discussing “Tried by Fire” by William
J. Bennett, Chapter 16 - conclusion.
Full of larger-than-life characters, stunning acts of bravery, and heart-rending sacrifice, Tried by Fire narrates the
rise and expansion of Christianity from an obscure regional sect to the established faith of the world’s greatest
empire with influence extending from India to Ireland,
Scandinavia to Ethiopia, and all points in between. Mr.
Bennett explores the riveting lives of saints and sinners,
paupers and kings, merchants and monks who together and against all odds - changed the world forever.
Our book club will meet in a member’s home from 7-8:30
pm on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month.
If interested or have questions, please email Kathy Long
at [email protected] or call 714-318-4678 for directions. You are welcome to Come & See!

Mission News
It is always a happy
occasion when St.
Cecilia parish is visited by one of our
missionaries.
Recently the Mission
Board hosted a
meeting upon the arrival of several representatives of
Healey International Relief Foundation. You may remember from the May Mission News column about the
“Fatima House of Light” report about how our money
helps the homeless women rescued from prostitution in
Sierra Leone, West Africa. This is a part of the Healey
International Relief Foundation which we support.
Our visitors were Father Peter Konteh, Chairman of the
Healey Advisory Board, Benjamin Parra, and Megan
Smith of the Foundation Office. Father works mainly in
Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Father Peter told about the heavy toll of the Civil War
that the country had gone through for 10 years. An amputation hospital was made to care especially for the people
who had their hands and arms cut off by the rebels. (Why
such atrocities? If people would not work for the rebels,
then the rebels made sure they did not work for the other
side.) Father established St. Mary’s Children’s Home in
1997 in Bo to care for war orphans whose parents were
killed, maimed and disabled and unable to care for their
children. St. Mary’s has thrived and can count university
students among its alumni today.
When Ebola spread its misery to Sierra Leone, Father
Peter went to raise awareness at the international level,
notably through his presentation to the U.S. Senate in
September 2014. He made a similar presentation in the
U.K. House of Commons.
As you can imagine, Father Peter is very dedicated to the
people of his country. He began social work well before
his ordination to the priesthood and has maintained a remarkable balance between social and pastoral work. He is
an amazing priest, and we could have listened to him for
hours. Watch for more about Father Peter in Mission
News.
Remember to use the Blue Mission Envelopes for
your donation so we can keep helping our missionaries. And how about a “thank you” to St. Cecilia
for letting Mission Ministry continue!

KỶ NIỆM 40 NĂM THÀNH LẬP GIÁO PHẬN ORANGE
Quý ông bà và anh chị em thân mến!
Chúa Nhật hôm nay Giáo Phận Orange chúng ta kỷ niệm 40 năm thành lập Giáo Phận với Thánh Lễ đại trào
do Đức Cha Kevin Vann, Giám Mục Giáo Phận, chủ tế tại nhà thờ Chính Tòa lúc 9:30 sáng.
