Dear Senepol Members and Friends
Estimados Miembros de la Senepol y Amigos,
I would like to thank the membership, staff, directors and guests for such
a great year for the Senepol Breed, SCBA and all affiliated associations. We had
a very productive year, just to mention a few of the items we accomplished:
1. Completed Multi-Breed Evaluation Prototype through Angus Genetics, Inc.
2. Performance Test and Sale for Young Virgin Bulls
3. Visit to Costa Rica by Art Martinez, Patrick Pitti and Pedro Alejandro Restrepo to Costa Rica
and Argentina and Panama by Pedro Alejandro Restrepo. Visit to Guatemala by Hans Lawaetz
4. Whole Herd Reporting increased by 1043 animals and registrations increased by1346 in 2012
compared to 2011.
5. We participated in the Miami Cattle show and were honored to have Carl Parker attend from Alabama.
This event featured an auction by TV and internet.
6. We are in the design process for the new website which is being spearheaded by Ronnie King.
All of this would not be possible without the participation and support of you, our members, the Directors,
and Mrs. Lisa Vorce. There is a lot of work still to do and we have challenges ahead of us.
Me gustaría dar las gracias a todos los miembros, funcionarios, directores e invitados por un gran año
para la raza Senepol, la SCBA y todas las asociaciones afiliadas. Hemos tenido un año muy productivo, por
mencionar sólo algunos de los logros:
1. Finaliza modelo prototipo de la Evaluación multi racial a través de Angus Genetics, Inc.
2. Prueba de desempeño y venta de toretes Virgenes.
3. Visita a Costa Rica por el Sr. Art Martínez, el Sr. Pitti Patrick y el Sr. Pedro Alejandro Restrepo y
Argentina y Panamá por el Sr. Pedro Alejandro Restrepo. Visita a Guatemala por el Sr. Hans Lawaetz.
4. El Reporte Total del Hato aumentó en 1043 los animales y los registros aumentaron en 1346 en el
año 2012 en comparación con 2011.
5. Hemos participado en la feria de ganado de Miami y el honor de contar allí con Carl Parker
asisten de Alabama. Este evento contó con una subasta por la televisión e internet.
6. Estamos en el proceso de diseño de la nueva página web que está siendo liderado por Ronnie King.
Todo esto no sería posible sin la participación y el apoyo de ustedes, nuestros miembros, los Directores, y
la señora Lisa Vorce. Hay mucho trabajo por hacer y tenemos desafíos por delante.
Primarily, must work out our differences. This is in order to keep our group strong and united. By doing
this it will benefit the Senepol breed. We all have the love of the breed in common. We all want to see Senepol
flourish worldwide. To do this we need to get more involvement and participation from the membership including promotion of the breed. We have seen how giving support to local associations grows the breed and I feel
we need to give more recognition and support to local Associations from the different countries to support and
develop the breed. This will be accomplished by continuing to provide good service from the SCBA office to the
affiliated members and associations. It is crucial and it’s our job and responsibility.
En primer lugar, debe resolver nuestras diferencias. Esto es con el fin de mantener nuestro grupo fuerte y
unido. AlElhacer esto va a beneficiar a la raza Senepol. Todos tenemos en comúnel amor depor la raza. Todos
queremos ver florecer en todo el mundo El Senepol. Para ello tenemos que conseguir una mayor implicación
y participación de los miembros, incluida la promoción de la raza. Hemos visto cómo dar apoyo a las asociaciones
locales crece la raza y me siento que tenemos que dar más reconocimiento y apoyo a las asociaciones locales
de los distintos países para apoyar y desarrollar la raza. Esto se logrará mediante la continuidad en ofrecer
un buen servicio de la oficina de SCBA a los afiliados y las asociaciones. Esto es crucial y es nuestro trabajo y
responsabilidad.
It is important to stay at the cutting edge of innovation and we plan to investigate new opportunities in
our evaluation for carcass traits, according to the future needs of the Senepol breed. For those Directors who are
coming off the board this year, we wish to thank you for your dedication and support over the years. It is much
appreciated. We are also excited to receive and welcome our new directors and President along with any new
ideas they may have that can help the breed and our associations become stronger.
Es importante mantenerse a la vanguardia de la innovación y tenemos la intención de investigar las nuevas
oportunidades las características de la canal, de acuerdo a las necesidades futuras de la raza Senepol. Para los
directores que este años e retiran de la Junta Directiva, queremos darle las gracias por su dedicación y apoyo
a lo largo de los años. Lo apreciamos mucho. También estamos muy contentos de recibir y dar la bienvenida a
nuestros nuevos directores y el Presidente junto con las nuevas ideas que puedan tener que puedan ayudar a la
raza y nuestras asociaciones a ser más fuertes.
I’m sure we will have a very colorful year ahead for the breed and its affiliate’s associations.Thank you
for the very important work and the time each of one of us has dedicated to the breed, many thanks to the people
behind the scenes, and all visitors willing to come to visit us in Orlando, Florida.

especial, con la audacia, tenacidad, emprendimiento y
trabajo de gente que ama lo que hace.
Any given day can end up completely transformed into
something quite special, with the determination, tenacity,
prowess and hard-work from people that love what they do.
En Finca El Cántaro (propiedad del Sr. Juan Manuel
Sánchez) esto sucedió el 17 de Marzo del 2012, la finca es
una empresa dedicada a la agricultura y desde luego, a la
ganadería. La ASOSENEPOL de Costa Rica, asociación
liderada también por el Sr. Juan Manuel Sánchez, realizó un
evento titulado ´Día de Campo Senepol ´, siendo este, el
primer evento oficial de la raza Senepol en toda Centro
América. Con muchísimo éxito pero sobretodo, orgullo,
pudieron los principales exponentes de la raza en Costa
Rica, gozar de
un espacio muy
concurrido, activo
y excelente, para
mostrar lo mejor
de sus respectivos
hatos puros y
cruzados.

an enterprise dedicated to agriculture, and, of course, to
cattle. ASOSENEPOL Costa Rica, Costa Rica’s Senepol
Association, lead by Don Juan Manuel Sanchez, had its
first ever national and Central American event titled ‘Senepol Field Day’. The Costa Rican breeders were very proud
to be able to exhibit in a fantastic location, full of diverse
people and beautiful hot weather, and their best of the best
in both purebred Senepol and crossbred Senepol too.
Dicho evento causo un paréntesis en el curso regular de
la ganadería tica, y marco asimismo, un antes y un después
para el Senepol en Costa Rica. Los cientos de asistentes
pudieron comprobar, en medio de múltiples exposiciones,
muestras de ganado, bella gente y espectacular evento, la
verosímil promesa de esta gran raza.
This event undoubtedly created a change in the regu-
lar course of Costa Rican farming, marking a before and
after for the Senepol breed in Costa Rica. The hundreds of
guests were able to prove, through multiple expositions,
distinct herd showings, beautiful people and a spectacular
event, the incredible promise of this great breed.

Costa Rica’s four (4) main pure Senepol breeders were in
charge of this, all registered members of the SCBA.

The event was attended by three (3) SCBA board
members, namely: Mr. Aristides Martinez, Vice-President
of SCBA; Mr. Pedro Alejandro Restrepo, Director, from
Colombia; and Mr. Patricio Pitti, Director, from the US
and Panama.

They assisted alongside the Costa Rican breeders as the official Senepol Representatives. They respectfully participated by making demonstrations and answering people’s
questions of all sorts throughout the entire day. Their presentations were technical still understandable to the experienced cattle breed and also the Senepol novice, which
was one of the main aims of this event, to give a better
understanding of this breed’s benefits for zones like Costa
Rica and Latin-American in general. The public was widely moved by them and applauded excitedly to each and one
of the Presenters. The people in attendance in this event
were from Costa Rica’s prime cattle breeding circle.
La exhibición de ganado conto además de lo puro, con
más de 30 animales frutos de cruces entre Senepol y razas
comerciales. Se analizaron in situ junto con los asistentes y
se comprobó su excelente potencial en materias de ganancia
de peso, adaptabilidad, terneza de carne y mansedumbre,
siendo el resultado, un elogio por parte de todos los
presentes y futuros adeptos de la raza Senepol.
The exhibitions were comprised not only of pure Senepol animals, but also of over 30 crosses between Senepol
and commercial breeds. They were analyzed in place next
to the assistants and their potential in matters of weight
gain, adaptability, meat tenderness and docility were proven. The result: There will be future supporters of the Senepol breed in Costa Rica.
Otra de las novedades presentadas en El día de Campo
Senepol fue la presentación oficial de Las Cantaritas, un
ganado producto de cruces Senepol con razas
especializadas en leche, como Holstein, Jersey y otras.
Agrícola El Cántaro maneja aparte de su línea pura
Senepol, este proyecto que causo inmensa conmoción
entre todos los presentes. Junto a la muestra, se dieron a
conocer todo tipo de datos de producción de leche, sólidos
y células somáticas.
Another novelty presented in ASOSENEPOL’s Field
Day was the official presentation of “Las Cantaritas”, a
crossbred cattle pure Senepol which specializes in milking
similar to breeds such as Holstein, Jersey and others. Agricola El Cantaro, besides managing a wholly pure Senepol
herd, has also been working on this project which made
huge impressions amongst all of the attendees. Along with
these presentations, all sorts of pertinent data regarding

milk production, solids and somatic cells were also given
to the attendees.
Se observo con gran éxito, la fiabilidad de la raza para
producir leche en excelente volumen y calidad, constatada
con irrevocable éxito por sus números, así como por el
desempeño del ganado en un día tan caluroso como lo fue
este pasado 17 de Marzo.
It was observed with great success the potential for
the Senepol breed to produce milk with excellent volume
and quality. Senepol proves to be a milking breed that can
withstand very hot temperatures yet graze peacefully under
the intense heat, which was experienced on March 17th.
No todo había acabado ahí, al término de la parte
oficial del evento, el Día de Campo Senepol, regalo a
todos sus asistentes, un verdadero deleite cárnico
exclusivamente Senepol, donde no hubo quien no murmurara
la delicia de carnes, en cortes tanto para hamburguesa
como finos.
It was not all over yet, close to the ending, ASOSENEPOL’s Field Day provided to all the attending guests, the
chance to try some delicious Senepol beef for themselves.
It was a true delight for beef lovers, with half-pound burgers and gourmet cuts, all free and all readily available. Not
a word could be heard while they enjoyed this special treat.
Afterwards, everybody commented on the very special flavor this meal had left in their mouths and hearts.

with a spectacular cattle event never seen before in Costa
Rica. Organization, disposition, enthusiasm and attendance levels were all perfect.

February 10th & 11th, 2012, the Board of Directors for SCBA met in
North Carolina for a scheduled board meeting. While there, the board
viewed the cattle which are participating in the Virgin Bull test at HJ White
Farm, Bladenboro, NC. Listed below is a summary of the meeting.

USLGE
As many know, SCBA participates in a marketing program for international exportation of animal genetics through a company called
USLGE. Every year, we receive funds to pay for travel, translators and
our sire summary through this program. Our budget for 2012 is $22,000.
We are looking to use these funds as we have done in the past, including
three international trips, the translator at the SCBA convention and the
2012 Sire Summary.

PROGRAMMING/ PROGRAMACION
Reid Wilson, the programmer for SCBA is working to update our
program to include some new features. Some of this programming has
already been completed and the remaining will be finalized before the
convention. Here is a summary of the programming.

Contracts and Prepaid Credits – This programming allows for the
breeder charges report to calculate the correct fees for breeders and our
programmer. Over the past few years we have offered specials such as
the “catch up” discounts and this has caused a lot of headache for the
SCBA office.

Shopping Cart – All animals that are registered will now be verified
if payment has been made in advance (WHR or prepaid credits). If a
breeder owes money for services, the group of animals registered will
be held until payment can be received. The program will show a summary of the breeder charges, and prompt the breeders to make payment
through our PayPal credit card account. Once payment is received, the
animals will be released into the database and certificates can be printed
and mailed.

DONOR COWS
Programming has been completed to allow for printing of EPDs on
certificates for the calves of donor cows who have died and are no longer active on WHR. This reporting is similar to WHR and will be sent
out annually with the WHR reports in January. There is no cost to add
the donor cows status, but DNA must be on file before the program will
allow for this to occur.

PROMOTION OF SENEPOL IN THE US
SCBA has some semen remaining from the convention in Baton
Rouge and has been paying storage on it. The Board has granted permission for Ronnie King to contact LSU in Baton Rouge to see if they
will be interested in using the semen for some research. The Board also
agreed to allocate funds to promoting Senepol in the United States.
SCBA is able to do a lot of promotion internationally because of the use
of USLGE funds. The Board has agreed to pay for an ad in a magazine
to promote the Virgin Bull Test in North Carolina. As other opportunities to promote Senepol in the US arrive, the board will review them and
allocate funds as deemed appropriate.
PROMOCIÓN DEL SENEPOL EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS
La SCBA tiene algún semen que le sobro de la convención en Baton
Rouge y está pagando almacenaje por él. La Junta Directiva ha dado
autorización a Ronnie King para contactar la Universidad del Estado
de Luisiana (LSU) en Baton Rouge para ver la posibilidad de que ellos

The cover photo is the photo contest winner from the 2011 SCBA
Annual Convention in Puerto Rico. This photo was submitted by Mr.
Hermes Rodriguez from Finca Don Hermes in Panama. FDH REMY
25-8U E.T. was born 5/20/2008 and is the daughter of PRR 2110L and
Miss Chamana 0011/5(ET) and is Fullblood Senepol. To participate in
the Photo Contest please send a high resolution photo of your fullblood
or purebred registered Senepol bull or cow to the SCBA office no later
than June 18th, 2012 – [email protected]. Pictures will be voted
upon by the attendees of the 2012 convention in Orlando, Florida. No
proxy votes will be accepted and the winner of the contest will have
their bull featured on the 2012 Sire Summary. The winner of the cow
photo will be featured on an upcoming edition of the Senepol World
magazine.
La foto de la portada es el ganador del concurso de fotografía de
la Convención Anual de SCBA de 2011 en Puerto Rico. Esta foto fue
presentado por el Sr. Hermes Rodríguez, de Finca Don Hermes en
Panamá. FDH-Rémy-25-8 E.T. nació 20/05/2008 y es la hija de la PRR
2110L y Miss Chamana 0011/5(ET) y es sangre pura raza Senepol. Para
participar en el Concurso de Fotografía por favor envíe una foto de alta
resolución de su fullblood o de pura raza de toro o una vaca Senepol
registrado a la oficina de SCBA a más tardar el 18 de junio 2012 [email protected]. Las fotos serán sometidas a votación por los
asistentes a la convención de 2012 en Orlando, Florida. No hay votos

The following is the By-Law change which will be voted upon in Orlando, FL.

BY-LAW CHANGE PROPOSAL
Any proposed amendments or additions to the SCBA By-Laws that involves the transfer of SCBA data or moving of SCBA operating headquarters outside the United States must be passed with a majority vote of 90%
by the board of directors and then presented to the general membership at
the annual meeting for a vote. The adoption of this amendment will require
a 90% yes vote from the eligible membership present at the annual meeting.

Estatutos que implica la transferencia de datos SCBA o traslado de sede de
operaciones SCBA fuera de los Estados Unidos deben ser aprobados con
