Bulletin adds are due 2 weeks prior publication.
Jesus was fond of using agricultural
terms and images when teaching His
Apostles and His followers, and this
quote, which comes at the end of our
Gospel Reading from Luke today, is an
excellent example of that.
In fact, you almost have to have had
experience with farming and plowing to
understand what it means. It is
important for the health and
sustenance of crops that the furrows
made by a plow, and in which the
seeds will be planted, are straight.
Whether plowing in Jesus’ time either
by hand or with a plow pulled by oxen,
in order to plow straight rows, someone
had to focus on where he was going,
not on where he had been. It has not
changed with our modern farm
equipment today.
In other words, the secret is to look
forward, and to assure that you are going in a straight line. Looking
back invariably made the person plowing lose focus. That is Jesus’
point to us. As good stewards we must keep our focus on Him, on
following Him, and on being His disciple. That allows us to move toward
our goal of holiness and of being the kind of disciple He wants us to be.
• Is there anything in your life that holds you back from completely
following Jesus? Is there anything that stops you from laying down your
life for Jesus who gives His life for us on the Cross and in the
Eucharist? Get rid of it. There is no turning back.
On behalf of Msgr. Rob & the entire
church staff we would like to extend
our sincere appreciation for your
weekly contributions/donations.
Please remember your parish during
the summer/vacation months as
expenses continue to be paid and
when you give online, it helps us
make our budget. Thank you for your
wonderful generosity. To give online please visit our webpage @
www.stanthonyfresno.org for the Online Giving link. Have fun and
enjoy your summer vacations!

This year looks to be amazing. Fr. Jose
Robles—Sanchez will be with us for the whole
weekend, along with Paul George as
our host. It is held on the campus of USD.
Spots are filling up fast First come First Serve.
We would like to show our appreciation to all of the families who
participated in our summer bible camp program held from June
20th - 24th at St. Anthony’s School this year. It is always a joy
to see the children’s smiling faces who are so excited about
their faith while learning more about Jesus through arts, crafts,
songs, and skits!
Our theme this year was “Cool Kingdom Party, Mary
Leads Me Closer to Jesus”. As Catholics, it is important to
learn more about Mary, Jesus’ mother. Where Mary is, there is
her Son. We also learned about the lives of several saints
especially: St. Dominic Savio; St. Therese of Lisieux (patron
saint of our diocese); St. Joseph; St. Francis of Assisi;
Bl. Mother Teresa (to be canonized in September). Also, we
learned more on how to practice the virtues of Obedience,
Purity, Faith, Love, and Joy in our daily lives.
A special thank you to the youth and adult volunteers who
got up very early to share their time, treasure, and talents with
the children this week! Some of our youth volunteers also
attended a leadership retreat in preparation for this camp. We
are truly a blessed church because of God’s goodness and
because of these people’s sacrifices of teaching the faith, not
only by word, but by deed. May the Lord continue to bless each
one of them.
Thank you to our Priests & Religious Sisters for their
continuous support, presence, and inspiration.
We love you very much!

YEAR OF MERCY | POPE FRANCIS | WORLD YOUTH DAY
@Pontifex June 20
We are all on a journey to the common
house of heaven, where we will be able
to admire with joyful wonder the mystery
of the universe.
Papal Prayer Intention for June 2016
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Yet again in Ordinary Time, Jesus seems to demand extraordinary
commitment. A would-be disciple enthusiastically volunteers to
follow Jesus "wherever" (Luke 9:57). Jesus replies that "wherever"
means "nowhere to rest his head" (9:58). To other candidates, Jesus
brusquely denies reasonable requests to fulfill family obligations
(9:59, 61), declaring that discipleship demands total commitment-now! But Jesus also demands that we not judge how others respond.
When James and John volunteered to "call down fire from
heaven" (9:54) to destroy an unwelcoming town, Jesus "turned and
rebuked them" (9:55). All violence of any kind is completely
unacceptable among Jesus' disciples, a lesson this Jubilee Year of
Mercy is teaching the Christian community once again. Paul's
challenge to the Galatians and us reinforces Jesus' decisive command
to James and John that they express their commitment to him through
compassion for others. We must abandon the violence of "biting and
devouring one another" (Galatians 5:15), choosing instead to "serve
one another through love" (5:13). --Peter Scagnelli, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
Pray this month with
the pope for human
solidarity—“That the
aged, marginalized,
and those who have
no one may find—
even within the huge
cities of the world—
opportunities for encounter and
solidarity.”
Countdown to World Youth Day:
What World Youth Day Means to Me.
If you read or hear about World Youth Day, you may have an idea of
what happens there. If you watch on TV, you may have a better
understanding of what takes place. But only by being at World Youth
Day can you really know what it feels like and the impact it has in the
lives of so many young people. Words cannot fully describe the
experience of participating in World Youth Day, of being with millions
of young people celebrating their faith, celebrating what it means to be
a Catholic and a follower of Jesus Christ. The experience of being with
people from all over the world who gather to share their love for Christ
and the Church is unique to World Youth Day. I vividly remember
riding the bus to the closing Mass on that bright Sunday morning and
seeing thousands of young people flocking to Copa Cabana Beach to
join the 3.7 million people celebrating their oneness in Christ. When the
Holy Father arrived and the Mass started, there was a sense of Church,
of being a part of something really great, of being one family of God’s
people from different nations and languages, all with the same faith and
the same hope. As one participant said, “Y oung people are hungry to
know the truth and they find it at World Youth Day. When I went,
there were kids who were going back to church. They realized that
they are not alone in their journey to the Lord. The event shows that
the Church is alive and well, but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
To be continued next week

CONCÉNTRATE EN LA
MISIÓN
"Hay tantas cosas que hacer".
"Tenemos tan poco tiempo".
¿Cuántas variantes de estas
afirmaciones has oído o incluso
dicho tú mismo?
En realidad, ninguna de las dos
es completamente verdadera.
Hay muchas cosas que hacer en
esta vida, pero realmente pocas
cosas que son de vital
importancia. Esforzarse, buscar,
actuar en convivencia y
preocuparse en pos del
"desorden egoísta del hombre",
como nos dice san Pablo en la
segunda lectura de hoy, no es en
absoluto productivo. ¿Tan poco
tiempo?
Ahora, no
después. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
Cada 29 de junio,
en la solemnidad
de San Pedro y
San Pablo,
apóstoles,
recordamos a

PARISH EVENTS & OTHER NEWS AROUND THE DIOCESE
OUR FIRST, MOST
CHERISHED LIBERTY
We are Catholics. We are Americans. We
are proud to be both, grateful for the gift of
faith which is ours as Christian disciples,
and grateful for the gift of liberty which is
ours as American citizens. To be Catholic
and American should mean not having to
choose one over the other. Our allegiances
are distinct, but they need not be
contradictory, and should instead be
complementary. That is the teaching of our
Catholic faith, which obliges us to work
together with fellow citizens for the common
good of all who live in this land. That is the
vision of our founding and our Constitution,
which guarantees citizens of all religious
faiths the right to contribute to our common
life together.
Freedom is not only for Americans, but we
think of it as something of our special
inheritance, fought for at a great price, and
a heritage to be guarded now. We are
stewards of this gift, not only for ourselves
but for all nations and peoples who yearn to
be free. Catholics in America have
discharged this duty of guarding freedom
admirably for many generations.

The U.S. bishops have called for a
"Fortnight for Freedom:
Witnesses to Freedom". It will take place
from June 21 to July 4, a time when our
liturgical calendar celebrates a series of
great martyrs who remained faithful in the
face of persecution by political power:
St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher;
St. John the Baptist;SS. Peter and Paul;
First Martyrs of the Church of Rome.
The threats to religious freedom are more
subtle in the West; many people don’t even
perceive them; they happen
bureaucratically, or legislatively, or
judicially. Whereas in other parts of the
world … it’s bloody, violent, overt, but in
both cases it’s a denial of the rights of
conscience …” – Archbishop William Lori
“Today we are the witnesses. We will pray
and we will speak. We will act together and
invite others to join us. And we will never
give up, never give in because we know:
whether in chains or laurels religious
freedom and liberty know nothing but
victories! – Bishop William Murphy,
Diocese of Rockville Centre
