Sunday of Divine
Mercy
First Reading — The apostles
perform many signs and wonders
among the people. Many are added
to their numbers (Acts 5:12-16).
Psalm — Give thanks to the Lord
for he is good, his love is everlasting
(Psalm 118).
Second Reading — John, caught up
in the spirit, envisions the glorified
Lord, the first and the last, the one
who lives (Revelation 1:9-11a, 1213, 17-19).
Gospel — The risen Christ comes to
his disciples with peace and the
Spirit. The absent Thomas doubts
(John 20:19-31).

JOINING THE COMPANY OF BELIEVERS
What will help you to believe? Today’s scripture readings tell of faith and
doubt. They offer stories “recorded to help you believe,” as the passage from
John’s Gospel (20:31) remarks today. There is an urgency about this. On this
Second Sunday of Easter we are challenged to join the company of believers—
countless men and women who witnessed the power of the apostles’ faith.
There is no doubt that this power comes from Jesus Christ. The second
reading, from the book of Revelation, reports John’s mystical vision of the Son
of Man, who proclaims, “Once I was dead, but now I live” (Revelation 1:18).
The Gospel gathers everyone but Thomas to see the Risen Jesus and receive
the Holy Spirit from him. Like Thomas, we who have come along later must
have faith so that we can have life.

Domingo de la Divina
Misericordia
LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera lectura — Los apóstoles
hacen muchas señales y maravillas
entre la gente. (Hch 5:12-16).
Salmo — La misericordia del Señor
es eterna. Aleluya (Salmo 118
[117]).
Segunda lectura — Juan,
contagiado por el Espíritu, tiene una
visión del Señor glorificado
(Apocalipsis 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19).
Evangelio — Jesús resucitado visita
a los discípulos con su paz y con el
Espíritu. Tomás, ausente, duda de la
aparición de Jesús (Juan 20:19-31).
UNIRSE A LA COMUNIDAD DE CREYENTES
¿Qué te ayudará a tener fe?

Praying Hands:
How can you be a Minister to the Sick without ever leaving your own
home? It’s easy!
Every week our bulletin has a list of people who have requested our prayers
for healing, for hope, for courage and for strength. They need our prayers
and they believe that our prayers are powerful. So, may I
suggest that every day we pray for one person from that list.
We can name that person as we bring our prayers to the
heart of God and ask our loving God to lay His healing
hands on them.
In that way, these people will no longer be names on a list,
they will be people who are special to us and we can be
prayer warriors in our own homes. Try it!

Understanding the difference between
Adoration and Exposition
As properly understood, adoration is reverent and private time in
prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle and outside the
Eucharistic Liturgy. If the tabernacle is located in the main body of the
church and Mass is taking place, the faithful are enjoined to participate
in the communal celebration, rather than separating themselves from
the assembly for private devotion.
Adoration is primarily individual, although it may be done in groups or
as a family. In the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, the faithful are
encouraged to offer prayers of gratitude to Christ, to pray for specific
needs such as the peace and salvation of the world, and for their own
intentions.
Exposition refers to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament outside
of the tabernacle, either in a monstrance or ciborium. This pious
practice is intended to deepen the spiritual communion of the faithful
with the real presence of Christ in the consecrated host. It should also
foster a desire to celebrate the Mass.
Usually, exposition takes place at the end of the celebration of the
Eucharist, "Immediately after the distribution of communion, the
monstrance is placed on the altar. The deacon (or in his absence the
priest, even the presider himself) places the host in the monstrance.
The celebrant goes to the chair and after a brief period of silent prayer,
stands and says the Prayer After Communion. The concluding rites of
the Mass are omitted. The celebrant then goes to the altar, and after
placing incense in the censor, kneels and incenses the Holy Eucharist.
After a period of silent prayer, the minister(s) rise, genuflect and
depart" (OSEHE #120) (see also HCWEOM #82-98).
Perpetual exposition is officially authorized and permitted for 1)
religious orders and communities for whom perpetual adoration or
exposition is prescribed as an integral part of their constitution and
religious life or 2) Public Associations of the Faithful whose
constitution and statues prescribe perpetual adoration or exposition.
