A Message from Fr. Jim . . .
This Thursday we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. As we pause to reflect on the many gifts that we have been
given, it would be most appropriate to begin Thanksgiving Day with the celebration of the Mass. Please consider
joining us for Mass 8:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, Lyons, in order that we can give thanks to God who makes
all things possible. At this Mass a collection will be taken up to be shared with the local St. Vincent de Paul Society to help them continue the tremendous work they do to assist those who are truly in need.
It is my hope that this Thanksgiving Day we can say “Thank You” to those people who always seem to be
around just when we need them. Those people who do so much for us and never seem to want anything in return. I hope that we can express our gratitude to those people who mean so much to us. Please allow me to offer
a word of thanks to all of you for your love and dedication to St. Charles, St. Joseph and St Mary Parishes. On
this Thanksgiving holiday I find myself particularly grateful to God for allowing me to be a part of this faith
community.
A Prayer for Thanksgiving Day
Heavenly Father, this is the day set aside to give thanks for your surpassing goodness to us.
You have created us in your own image and set us over your wonderful creation. You
chose a people to be your own and to carry your message of salvation to all people.
You carried out your redemption in Jesus Christ, and His saving fruits
are passed on to every generation, to all who believe that by His death and
resurrection Jesus has given them a new freedom in His Spirit.
Let us give you proper thanks for your blessings –
those we are aware of as well as those that we habitually take for granted.
And let us learn to use them according to your will.
Amen.
!
I wish you a most blessed and happy Thanksgiving!
Fr. Jim Volkert

MINISTERIO HISPANO
Demos gracias a Dios
