BurlingtonEnglish is a unique blended English programme for adults and young adults, offering a comprehensive Core Programme with a wide range of Intermediate and Intensive Career Extensions. Each course combines inclass lessons with anytime-anywhere online modules. The in-class lessons and online modules are carefully blended, providing both teachers and students with a complete language-learning solution. Core Programme The Core Programme, comprised of Everyday English and Advanced English, provides students with a strong basis in general English, with over 200 hours of learning in each course. Online modules provide English-language building blocks for comprehensive training in all four language skills. The BurlingtonEnglish Learning Management System (LMS) provides feedback for students and teachers. In addition, Burlington’s cutting-edge speech technology provides individualised feedback and instruction in pronunciation and accent reduction. Students are offered unlimited vocabulary, spelling and pronunciation practice through the use of games, puzzles and other activities. The downloadable print materials for in-class lessons focus on communication, guided writing and additional grammar practice, aspects of learning best facilitated by the teacher. Career Extensions Through a wide range of extensions, BurlingtonEnglish augments its Core Programme by offering specialised English, enabling students to focus on their chosen careers. The comprehensive choice of English for Special Purposes (ESP) Extensions caters to students aspiring to specific professions and to professionals who need career-specific English. Career Extensions focus on professionspecific vocabulary, as well as on soft skills. BurlingtonEnglish Intermediate Extensions include English for Nursing Assistants, Dental Assistants, Flight Attendants, Web Developers, Cosmetologists, Auto Mechanics, Administrative Assistants and more. Each Intermediate Extension offers over 40 hours of learning. Intensive EXTENSIONS include English for Business, Doctors, Nurses, Engineering, Hi-Tech, Banking and more. Each Intensive Extension offers over 100 hours of learning. All Career Extensions contain teacher’s notes and student worksheets, in addition to the online modules. Students develop their own professional portfolios as part of their coursework. Who Are We? Cutting Edge Speech-Processing Technology All BurlingtonEnglish courses and Extensions feature the BurlingtonEnglish SpeechTrainer®. This highly advanced speech-processing technology was developed by Burlington specifically for language learning. The SpeechTrainer analyses students’ spoken English at phoneme level, and corrects mispronunciations through individualised training – all in real time. Students effectively improve their pronunciation and comprehensibility, and acquire the confidence needed to successfully communicate in English. In creating the SpeechTrainer, BurlingtonEnglish collected and analysed millions of recordings of native speakers of many different languages, enabling its software to adapt to a wide variety of accents and to discern specific difficulties based on each student’s native tongue. The Burlington Group is one of Europe’s largest and most respected publishers of English-language teaching materials, with over two million students learning English from its books, multimedia programs and speechtraining software. BurlingtonEnglish, an online digital solution for language learning, features Burlington’s cutting-edge, proprietary and patented speech technologies. Burlington offers universities, FE colleges, language learning centres and intensive English programmes in the UK, Europe, the Americas and Asia the most advanced online platform in the world for learning English. The Burlington Group employs over 500 people in its offices located throughout the world. WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT BURLINGTONENGLISH An Amazing Blended Language Programme for EFL and ESOL “BurlingtonEnglish is a valuable learner resource. It works best when the teacher creates a strong link between BurlingtonEnglish in the classroom and BurlingtonEnglish at home. The continuity between in-class and home-study material reinforces learning.” Edward Seddon, Curriculum Team Manager at Chichester College, UK “BurlingtonEnglish is an amazing blended language programme. I have seen incredible results with my students. This programme encompasses all facets necessary to learn a second language. I highly recommend this programme to anyone hoping to learn English in an expedient and effective manner.” Adriana Rodriguez-Soto, MDCPS Teacher, USA Transnational Projects & International Student Support “BurlingtonEnglish provided our institution with a groundbreaking and cost-effective blended learning platform from which to build and extend our transnational projects with Asian and Latin American academic institutions. Burlington worked closely with us to integrate the platform into our own programme delivery in a way that both enhanced the student experience and added value to our course.” Peter Walker, Director of Commercial & International Development at Guildford College of Further & Higher Education, UK “Our students were massively impressed with the sophistication of BurlingtonEnglish. Students are really motivated to get the four green bars that show them they’ve mastered a word or a line in a dialogue. This self-based study adds enormous value to our classroom work. In a class, it’s very difficult to give every student individual feedback on all their pronunciation. However, with BurlingtonEnglish our students can receive specific feedback on every word.” Peter Brown, Director of International Operations at Chichester College, UK “We’re delighted to add BurlingtonEnglish to our award winning wrap-around support package for all our international learners here in the UK and beyond. The comprehensive online system provides flexible, targeted support and fits perfectly with our ethos of personalised learning for all. During the AoC International Charter process, BurlingtonEnglish was highlighted as a key resource in demonstrating Telford’s commitment to our learners.” Liz Gunn, Head of International College at Edinburgh’s Telford College, UK Relevant Career-Oriented Curriculum “One of our students from Mexico went on to take the nursing certification test, and earned the highest possible score. BurlingtonEnglish really helped her pass that test. We’re very proud of her.” Luci Mello, ESL Program Developer/Trainer at Indian River State College, USA Access to Learning “With BurlingtonEnglish, I have found the way to teach English. I have given my staff the means to really learn in a way that fits into their schedules. I see the learning, I see the results. BurlingtonEnglish has been a good investment.” Antonio Mir Montes, Director of Vocational Training at Xabec Vocational Training Centre, Spain “We needed a distance-learning solution to keep our students in the class. Our class was five days a week. Monday through Wednesday, students met in person, and Thursdays and Fridays they used BurlingtonEnglish. Being virtual meant higher participation.” Stuart Mears, Adult Public Education Specialist for Palm Beach County Public Schools, USA Student Retention in Adult Education “Our students were in control of their learning, and that motivated them. The programme was engaging, and the specialised tracks very beneficial. As a result, they stayed in class.” Veronica Pavon-Baker, Miami-Dade Public Schools, USA For more information: Saul Abrahams +31 (0)20 800 4882 or [email protected]
