LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners,
Think for a moment, what has God been asking you to give to him?
“What area of your comfort zone” has God been trying to
expand? Our comfort zone is made of three main sectors. our
relationship with God; our relationships with other people; our
own character, our own inner integrity.
Usually, Jesus asks us to put out into deeper water in one sector at
a time. Which is he pointing to now for you? Is it your relationship
with him? Maybe you have had a thought in the back of your mind
for a long time that you should pray more, or better. Maybe God
has been nudging you to come to confession, and you have been
ignoring him. Maybe he has been gently inviting you to study your
faith more, to get to know him better, and you have been resisting.
Is it your relationships with others? Maybe there is someone you
need to forgive, or ask forgiveness from. Maybe you need to cut off
or pull back a relationship that's dragging you down. Maybe you
need to renew your commitment to someone you've been
neglecting or taking for granted. Is it in your own character and
interior integrity? Maybe you need to leave behind a hidden habit
of dishonesty or self-indulgence. Maybe God is asking you to
discipline a particular area of your life. Maybe you need to leave
behind mediocrity and strive again for excellence in one of your
responsibilities. Jesus is asking each one of us to put out into
deep water, to step out of our comfort zone, not in order to torture
us, but because he loves us. We may not understand, but it's OK,
because we're not alone. He is in our boats, as he was with Peter,
strengthening us. He will never leave us, as he will prove once
again in this Mass.
“ Lord, I trust in you.” Let's give him whatever he asks. Let's let his
command to each of our hearts revolutionize our lives.

11th Annual Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Steps for Students
The Steps for Students Campaign is a 5K Run/Walk held February 20th. The
goal of Steps for Students is to raise awareness of the importance of a Catholic
education and provide much needed resources for our Catholic School.
Nearly all of the $27,000 raised last year through registration and donations
came back to St.Jerome!!
The Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program helps to keep Catholic schools
accessible, available and affordable to all families. This commitment is the
hallmark of our faith and service in regards to the educational mission of the
Church.

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
¿Piensa por un momento, lo que Dios te pide? « ¿Qué área
de tu zona de comodidad " Dios ha tratado de ampliar?
Nuestra zona de comodidad se compone de tres sectores
principales. Nuestra relación con Dios; nuestra relacione con
las otras personas; nuestro propio carácter, y nuestra
propia integridad interior.
Por lo general, Jesús nos pide ir hacia las aguas más
profundas en un sector a la vez. ¿A qué sector te dirige
ahora? ¿Cómo es tu relación con él? Tal vez a llegado un
pensamiento a tu mente durante mucho tiempo que debería
rezar más o mejor. Tal vez ha sido empujado por Dios para
venir a la confesión, y lo has estado ignorando. Tal vez él
suavemente te invita a estudiar más tu fe, para llegar a
conocerlo mejor, y te has estado resistiendo. ¿Cómo es su
relación con los demás? Tal vez hay alguien que necesitas
perdonar o pedir perdón. Tal vez necesitas cortar alguna
relación que has estado arrastrando hasta ahora. Tal vez
necesitas renovar tu compromiso con alguien que has
descuidado u olvidado. ¿Tal vez tu propio carácter o
integridad interior? Tal vez necesitas dejar atrás un hábito
oculto de deshonestidad o auto indulgencia. Tal vez Dios te
está pidiendo que disciplines un área particular de tu vida.
Tal vez necesitas dejar atrás la mediocridad y luchar otra
vez por la excelencia en una de tus responsabilidades. Jesús
nos pide a cada uno de nosotros meternos en aguas
profundas, y salir de nuestra zona de comodidad, no para
torturarnos, sino porque él nos ama. No podemos entender,
pero está bien, porque no estamos solos. Él está en
nuestros barcos, como estaba con Pedro, fortaleciéndonos.
Él nunca nos dejará como nos lo demuestra una vez más en
esta misa.
"Señor, en ti confío." Vamos a darle lo que pide. Dejemos
que mande en cada uno de nuestros corazones y así
revolucione nuestras vidas.

Formación para el Ministerio Cristiano
¿Quieres aprender de la fe Católica? ¿Quieres servir mejor en algún ministerio y no
sabes cómo? Te invitamos a que participes en el programa de Formación para el
Ministerio Cristiano. Es un programa de tres semestres donde se ofrece una formación
teológica, espiritual y bíblica basado en la doctrina Católica impartidos por instructores
aprobados y calificados con grados de Maestría o Doctorado en las ramas de la
Teología. Cada sesión o clase incluye oración y el contenido teológico está diseñado
para una audiencia adulta. En cada semestre se exige la participación de un día de
Reflexión. El costo de cada semestre es de la siguiente manera, el participante paga
$25 por semestre, la parroquia paga $25 y la Arquidiócesis paga $25 (financiado por el
fondo Diocesano). Al final del programa, si asistes a todas las clases recibes un
reconocimiento por parte del Cardenal DiNardo celebrado en una ceremonia. Para más

5to. Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Que podamos responder con entusiasmo, "Aquí estoy Señor", cuando
escuchemos la llamada de Dios para que seamos Sus manos, pies y voz
aquí en la tierra.
"Y oí la voz del Señor que decía: «¿A quién enviaré? ¿Quién irá por
nosotros?' 'Y respondí: ¡Aquí me tienes, mándame a mí!'" (Isaías 6:8)
Cada día- en maneras pequeñas y grandes - Dios nos pregunta, “¿A
quién debo enviar?” Puede ser a alguien para que tome un nuevo
ministerio o simplemente abrir una puerta a un extraño, Dios
constantemente nos provee de puertas de oportunidad. La próxima vez
que escuches la llamada de Dios, ten el coraje de caminar a través de la
puerta y decirle “Señor aquí estoy.”

favores recibidos, en memoria de algún ser querido o por

¿POR QUE LOS PADRINOS Y MADRINAS DE BAUTISMO
TIENEN QUE ESTAR CASADOS POR LA IGLESIA? El ser
padrino o madrina, no solo de Bautismo, sino de cualquier
Sacramento, representa a la misma Iglesia. No es solo porque es
alguien de la familia, conocido, o el que va a pagar la fiesta. Los
padrinos y madrinas, representan en ese momento a nuestra Iglesia.
Y si la representan lo deben hacer de manera completa. Tenemos
muy seguido solicitudes para bautizar pidiendo que alguna pareja
que están casados solo por la ley civil y no por la Iglesia, sean los
padrinos. La respuesta es NO pueden, porque entonces NO están
representando completamente a la Iglesia. No juzgamos por que si o
por que no se han casado por la Iglesia, eso es algo personal, pero si
están queriendo ser padrinos por la Iglesia es porque van a dar
ejemplo de vida a su ahijado(a) viviendo su fe y recibiendo sus
sacramentos. El ahijado o ahijada esta “viendo” en sus padrinos que
el Sacramento del Matrimonio no es necesario, y la realidad es que
necesitamos a Dios en nuestras vidas y dar ejemplo de su presencia
en todo lo que hacemos. Si invitando a Dios al casarnos por la Iglesia,
nos va como nos va, que pasa si no lo tenemos?

día Arquidiocesano de Jovenes Adultos. “La Puerta de la Misericordia”

Relief Services Project in her village, she has
doubled her harvest and has earned six times
more profit from her sales.
For some years we have been, thanks to your
generosity, the Church which most donations has
contributed to the collection for “RICE BOWL
OPERATION” throughout Houston. With only a few
cents we can help feed whole families living in
extreme poverty. We ask you to make an effort and to contribute to this
cause. During Lent, we’ll have Rice Bowl boxes in the back of the
Church. Please take one and return it on Easter Sunday. Help us feed to

Pilgrims who pass through this ‘Door of Mercy' at any of the above designated churches receive the
Jubilee Indulgence. This Jubilee indulgence can be gained once a day for oneself or for someone who
has died. The Holy Father has stated that, in order to receive this Jubilee Indulgence, this passage
through a Holy Door must be linked with saying the Profession of Faith, praying for the Holy Father and
his intentions, and going to a celebration of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. With
regards to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, the Holy Father further instructed that "each time
that one of the faithful personally performs one or more of these actions, he or she shall surely obtain
the Jubilee Indulgence".
Adult Confirmation Classes in St.
Jerome starting soon. Candidates are to be
confirmed in 2016.
Many Parishes around the
Archdiocese of Galveston – Houston are conducting
adult Confirmation classes. These classes will be
offered for active, practicing adult Catholics who regularly
attend Mass but for various reasons have not celebrated
the Sacrament of Confirmation. You must have completed
Baptism & First Communion, if married, married by the church or not living
with anyone. Please register at the church office Monday – Friday 9am –
9pm or Saturday 9am – 4pm.

Mis queridos amigos en Cristo,
Nuestro Santo Padre, El Papa Francisco, ha hecho un llamado para un año de
jubileo: el Año Santo de Misericordia, que empezó el 8 de Diciembre. El pide
que vivamos este año santo en el resplandor de las palabras de Jesús en el
Evangelio de Lucas: “Sean misericordiosos, al igual que vuestro padre es
misericordioso.” La misericordia nace del amor. San Pablo nos recuerda que
Dios es rico en misericordia, y por Su gran amor por nosotros, El nos salva por
la gracia celestial. Verdaderamente, la misericordia de Dios es revelada en la
creación y en el regalo de la salvación.
El Papa Francisco nos confiere una bella imagen de la misericordia de Dios al
describir a Jesucristo como “el rostro de la misericordia del Padre”. Al
contemplar el rostro de la misericordia revelado en Jesucristo, no podemos dejar
de apreciar sus palabras para reconocerlo en la cara del pobre, del inmigrante y
en aquellos en las márgenes de la sociedad. Extender la mano con amor y
misericordia requiere de un sacrificio personal y a menudo nos ocasiona retos,
particularmente cuando necesitamos alcanzar a aquellos que no conocemos,
pero que desesperadamente requieren de nuestra ayuda.
A través del Fondo de Servicios Diocesanos (DSF) se nos presenta una
oportunidad única para extender una mano bondadosa a las miles de personas
que reciben asistencia a través de los más de 60 programas que forman el DSF.
Es un placer para mi decirles que el DSF se encuentra ahora en su
quincuagésimo año -- medio siglo de compartir y asistir a través de la
Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston. Fue iniciado por el Obispo Morkovsky en
1966 y desarrollado aun más por el Arzobispo Joseph Fiorenza para satisfacer
las necesidades de una siempre creciente Arquidiócesis.
Recientemente ustedes recibieron nuestra primera circular del DSF, la cual
describe detalladamente muchos de los ministerios incluidos y mantenidos por
el DSF. La circular mencionó que los pobres, los enfermos, los ancianos, y
aquellos que son minusválidos o están presos, se encuentran entre los
recipientes de servicios de una variedad de programas del DSF. Los fondos del
DSF también hacen posible la preparación de nuestros jóvenes para los
sacramentos, el reclutar a nuestros sacerdotes y a otros que buscan vivir la Vida
Consagrada, y el ofrecer una educación religiosa a todos los feligreses a lo largo
de sus vidas.
Mediante nuestra participación en actos misericordiosos, mantenemos nuestra
unión con los demás. El Programa del Fondo de Servicios Diocesanos es una
clara manifestación de nuestra unión como miembros de esta Iglesia Local. En
este Cincuentavo Aniversario de su fundación, quisiera expresar mi profundo
aprecio por todos aquellos que han contribuido a este programa. Les invito a
proclamar la constante misericordia de Dios al considerar una generosa
donación para este llamado del DSF en el 2016. Con gratitud por su apoyo y en

Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, called for a jubilee year: the Holy Year of
Mercy, which began December 8. He asks that we live this holy year in the
light of Jesus’s words in the Gospel of Luke: “Be merciful, just as your
father is merciful.” Mercy is born from love. St. Paul reminds us that God is
rich in mercy, and because of His great love for us, He saves us by grace.
Indeed, God’s mercy is revealed in creation and in the gift of salvation.
Pope Francis gives us a beautiful image of the mercy of God by describing
Jesus Christ as “the face of the Father’s mercy”. As we contemplate the face
of mercy as revealed in Jesus Christ, we cannot fail to heed his words to
recognize him in the face of the poor, the immigrant and those on the
margins of society. Reaching out in love and mercy demands personal
sacrifice and often entails challenges, particularly when we need to reach
out to those we don’t know, but who desperately require our assistance.
Through the Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) we are presented with a unique
opportunity to extend our hand of kindness to the thousands of people who
are served through the more than 60 programs that comprise DSF. I am
pleased to tell you that DSF is now in its 50th year -- a half century of
sharing and caring throughout the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. It
was started by Bishop Morkovsky in 1966 and further expanded to meet
the needs of an ever-growing Archdiocese by Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza.
Recently you received our first DSF newsletter, which described in detail
many of the ministries covered and sustained through DSF. It mentioned
that the poor, the sick, the elderly, and those who are disabled or
incarcerated are among those who are served through a variety of DSF
programs. Funds from DSF also make it possible to prepare our young
people for the sacraments, recruit our priests and others seeking to live the
Consecrated Life and to offer life-long religious education to all
parishioners.
Through our participation in acts of mercy, we stay connected with one
another. The Diocesan Services Fund Program is a visible manifestation of
our connectedness as members of this Local Church. On this 50th
Anniversary of its founding, I would like to express my profound
appreciation to all who have contributed to this program. I encourage you
to proclaim the enduring mercy of God by considering a generous gift for
this 2016 DSF appeal. With gratitude for your support and prayerful best
