Course on Biobanks for research samples (2 – 4 October)

Course on Biobanks for research samples (2 – 4 October)
The Association of Biotechnology of Salamanca organizes three different courses, in order to
increase students‘ knowledge in some topics related to Biotechnology, which are not usually
included in Universities‘ syllabi.
These knowledges are usually restricted to small and exclusive sectors of work setting, and for
a high price. The Association of Biotechnology of Salamanca has decided to get closer them to
every single student who whises , for a more affordable price.
The three courses are supported by University of Salamanca, and they will take place along
October.
Though they are orientated towards students of Biotechnology or similar degrees (Medicine,
Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Computer science), no previous knowledge is required.
For registering, please visit the following link ,cliking on Listado general‘. You must look there
for the Course on which you are interested, and apply for it. Needed materials are provided.
Class size is limited.

I Course on Bioinformatics (14th – 17th October)
For the last decade, Bioinformatics has been established as a key area, for its great importance
for analysis of large groups of biological data, because of technological revolutions since
human genome sequencing. Due to this, Bioinformatics has become a common tool and area
in multidisciplinary research groups.
This course offers the students an approach to bioinformatics and to one of the most
important areas of this discipline: gene expression and sequencing.
The first part of the course is dedicated to the analysis of gene expression, basically
microarrays. The second part is dedicated to the analysis of sequences, focusing on sequence
alignment.
The course will be enterily given in Spanish by professor PhD. Rodrigo Santamaría Vicente.
Program
1. 14th October: Introduction to bioinformatics. Introduction to gene expression analysis.
Repositories of expression and on-line utility.
2. 15th: Advance gene expresión analysis. Utilities of desktop and programming.
3. 16th: Introduction to analysis of sequences. Sequence alignment. On-line utilities.
4. 17th: Conclusions. Expectations. Debate.
Registration costs: 24€.
Registration deadline: 10th October.
Class size: 20.
