Reflection
BAD MANAGEMENT
Anyone who has
reached the age of work
has probably experienced
what it is like to work under
a bad manager. Perhaps
that person just does not
know how to encourage
productivity in a way that is
kind and understanding
and not abusive. Perhaps
that person is just a bully,
causing discouragement
and poor morale among
workers, so that many quit
because they just can’t
stand it. Perhaps that manager does not know how to
manage unproductive and
disruptive people in the
office, or others who are
the office bullies. That
steward “begins to beat the
menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink
and get drunk.”
But every manager also
has a boss. And here Christ
is the Master who will come
at an unexpected time, and
if he finds the manager not
working well and unworthy
of trust, he will apply appropriate sanctions. Christ
will come at a time when
we do not know; we place
our faith and our hope in
his mercy. But when we
doubt ourselves we have
those words of Jesus, assuring us that the Father
has already given us the
kingdom. We need not be
afraid. We need only be
mindful of Christ’s mercy,
and conduct ourselves in a
way that is kind, gentle, and
generous to others. We can
indeed have hope.

change is a Sunday Celebration in the
Absence of a Priest will be conducted at
the specified times on the following
Sundays in Augusts and September:

Religious Education: There’s still time
to register & help!
Our religious education classes for
children are a wonderful way to
introduce your children to the meaning
of the sacraments and the importance
of a faith-filled life. Programs are
available for children in first grade and
up. Classes are open for all. If your child
is not on schedule for their sacraments,
come and speak to our staff to learn
how your child can get started this fall!
Call us during office hours at
559-734-9522
Adults, this fall share your faith with
others. We have an active program full
of young Catholics eager to receive the
sacraments and become lifelong
learners of the faith. We are currently in
need of a Tuesday 3rd-6th grade
catechist, a Wednesday older
communion catechist and a Saturday
September 4
8:30 a.m. - St. Mary’s
10:00 a.m. - Holy Family
12:00 p.m. - St. Charles
7:00 p.m. - St. Mary’s
You are urged to assist at a time when
Masses are scheduled even though it
means arranging your schedule a little
differently. We cannot emphasize
enough that nothing can take the place
of the Celebration of Holy Mass at
which the Eucharistic sacrifice is the
central element. The need to conduct
the SCAP in our parish on these
Sundays is out of necessity due to a
lack of priests. Keep our priests and
deacons in your daily prayers and
continue to encourage young men to
seek vocations to the priesthood.

HOW DOES THE CHURCH HELP THE CATHOLIC FAITHFUL TO
SPEAK ABOUT POLITICAL AND SOCIAL QUESTIONS?
As the bishops of the United States of
America have rightly pointed out,
while the Church insists on the existence of objective moral norms which
are valid for everyone, "there are those
in our culture who portray this teaching as unjust, that is, as opposed to
basic human rights. Such claims usually follow from a form of moral relativism that is joined, not without inconsistency, to a belief in the absolute
rights of individuals. In this view, the
Church is perceived as promoting a
particular prejudice and as interfering
with individual freedom" (USCCB, Ministry to Persons with a Homosexual
Inclination (2006), 17). We are living in
an information-driven society which
bombards us indiscriminately with
data-all treated as being of equal importance-and which leads to remarkable superficiality in the area of moral
discernment. In response, we need to
provide an education which teaches
critical thinking and encourages the
development of mature moral values.
(Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium,
no. 64)
A WELL-FORMED CONSCIENCE
17. The Church equips its members
to address political and social questions by helping them to develop a
well-formed conscience. Catholics
have a serious and lifelong obligation
to form their consciences in accord
with human reason and the teaching
of the Church. Conscience is not
something that allows us to justify
doing whatever we want, nor is it a
mere "feeling" about what we should
or should not do. Rather, conscience
is the voice of God resounding in the
human heart, revealing the truth
to us and calling us to do what is
good while shunning what is evil.
Conscience always requires serious attempts to make sound moral judgments based on the truths of
our faith. As stated in the Catechism
of the Catholic Church, "Conscience is
a judgment of reason whereby the
human person recognizes the moral
quality of a concrete act that he is
going to perform, is in the process of
performing, or has already completed.
In all he says and does, man is
obliged to follow faithfully what he
knows to be just and right" (no. 1778).
18. The formation of conscience
includes several elements. First, there
is a desire to embrace goodness and
truth. For Catholics, this begins with a
willingness and openness to seek the
truth and what is right by studying
Sacred Scripture and the teaching of
the Church as contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It is also
important to examine the facts and
background information about various choices. Finally, prayerful reflection is essential to discern the will of
God. Catholics must also understand
that if they fail to form their consciences in the light of the truths of
the faith and the moral teachings of
the Church they can make erroneous
judgments.2
THE VIRTUE OF PRUDENCE
19. The Church fosters well-formed
consciences not only by teaching
moral truth but also by encouraging
its members to develop the virtue of
prudence, which St. Ambrose described as "the charioteer of the vir-
tues." Prudence enables us "to discern
our true good in every circumstance
and to choose the right means of
achieving it" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1806). Prudence shapes
and informs our ability to deliberate
over available alternatives, to determine what is most fitting to a specific
context, and to act decisively. Exercising this virtue often requires the courage to act in defense of moral principles when making decisions about
how to build a society of justice and
peace.
20. The Church's teaching is clear
that a good end does not justify an
immoral means. As we all seek to advance the common good-by defending the inviolable sanctity of human
life from the moment of conception
until natural death, by promoting religious freedom, by defending marriage, by feeding the hungry and
housing the homeless, by welcoming
the immigrant and protecting the environment-it is important to recognize
that not all possible courses of action
are morally acceptable. We have a
responsibility to discern carefully
which public policies are morally
sound. Catholics may choose different
ways to respond to compelling social
problems, but we cannot differ on our
moral obligation to help build a more
just and peaceful world through morally acceptable means, so that the
weak and vulnerable are protected
and human rights and dignity are defended.

Decimonoveno Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario: 7 de agosto de 2016
Dichoso el pueblo escogido por Dios (Salmo 33)
Reflexión
FE Y ESPERANZA
Nuestra fe consiste en
esperar por aquello que no
vemos. Pues si sabemos lo
que viene, no lo estaríamos
esperando, sino sabiendo que
es lo que viene. Esperamos en
Cristo la llegada del reino de
Dios, la restauración de todas
las buenas y maravillosas
cosas; y nuestra promesa de
salvación. Toda la ansiedad
puede desaparecer con las
simples palabras de Jesús “No
temas, rebañito mío, porque
tu Padre ha tenido a bien
darte el Reino”. ¿Que otras
palabras podrían dar más
ánimos en aquellos
momentos cuando nos
preguntamos si hemos sido
administradores buenos o
malos de lo que se nos ha
confiado?
MALA
ADMINISTRACIÓN
Cualquier persona que
haya alcanzado la mayoría de
edad para trabajar
probablemente ha
experimentado lo que es
trabajar con un mal jefe.
Quizá ese jefe no conoce
como fomentar la
productividad de una manera
gentil y entendible sin ser
abusiva. Quizá ese jefe es un
hostigador, causando
desanimo y una moral pobre
con los trabajadores, para que
muchos renuncien a causa de
que no lo pueden soportar.
Quizá ese jefe no sabe como
administrar la
improductividad y personas
perturbadoras en la oficina, u
otros son los hostigadores.
Ese administrador “empieza a
maltratar a los criados y las
criadas, a comer, a beber y a
embriagarse”.
Pero cada jefe a su vez
tiene un jefe. Y aquí Cristo es
el Maestro que vendrá en un
momento inesperado, y si él
encuentra al administrador sin
trabajar bien e indigno de
confianza, él corregirá de la
mejor manera. Cristo vendrá
en un momento que no
sabemos; ponemos nuestra fe
y nuestra esperanza en su
misericordia. Pero cuando
dudamos de nosotros mismos
tenemos esas palabras de
Jesús, asegurándonos que ya
el Padre nos ha dado el reino.
No debemos tener miedo.
Solo necesitamos estar
conscientes de la misericordia
de Cristo y conducirnos de
manera gentil, cortes y
generosa con los demás. En
efecto, podemos tener paz.

8:00 a.m. - San Carlos
10:00 a.m. - Sagrada Familia
12:00 p.m. - St. Charles
28 de agosto
7:00 a.m.- Santa María
10:30 a.m.- Santa María
12:00 p.m.- Sagrada Familia
7:00 p.m. - Santa María
4 de septiembre
8:30 am - Santa María
10:00 a.m. - Sagrada Familia
12:00 - St. Charles
7:00 - Santa María
Se le recomienda asistir en las misas programadas,
a pesar de que los horarios sean un poco diferentes,
favor de organizar su horario adecuadamente. No
