Good Shepherd Catholic Parish St. Mary ’s, H oly Fa mily, St. Th omas th e Apostle & St. Charle s Borromeo September 11, 2016 Honor our Blessed Mother at Fatima Celebration The 2016 St. Mary’s Our Lady of Fatima Celebration is rapidly approaching, with an exciting schedule of events culminating on Sunday, September 25th with a beautiful celebration of Mass, the parade, carnival, free BBQ dinner, live and silent auction and many other events on the grounds of George McCann School. The Fatima committee welcomes one and all to participate in the celebration as we honor our Blessed Mother’s appearance in Fatima, Portugal in 1917. Our lady appeared to three shepherd children, conveying a message emphasizing the priority of penance and prayer, particularly the devout daily recitation of the rosary. This message of Our Lady is more important than ever in these chaotic times. Mirroring the example of Our Blessed Mother, we strive to foster the propagation of the faith through children, particularly through the support of Catholic education. It is only through the generosity of family, friends and our larger community that the Catholic School of Visalia, George McCann Memorial, is able to provide catholic education to so many children in our community. The Fatima committee would like to thank all of you for your support and participation in this wonderful celebration of Our Lady of Fatima. All proceeds for the event go to the support of our school. We welcome all donations of time, talents and treasures, such as auction items, baked goods for the sweet shop, or even monetary donations. Check the bulletin for information on drop off locations and times for specific items and again, thank you for your support! The Our Lady of Fatima celebration is a beautiful way to honor our Blessed Mother and enjoy a wonderful day of fun, festivities, and fellowship with your family, friends, and all of our brothers and sisters in Christ. Like us on Facebook by searching for The Good Shepherd Parish, Our Lady of Fatima page. Our Facebook page includes a complete schedule of events as well as photos of our cute Fatima kids. The Fatima committee anticipates a blessed and joyous celebration! God Bless! If any families of The Good Shepherd Parish would like to participate in the Fatima parade, your presence is welcome. We are always in need of angels, apostles, and other roles for the whole family. Contact Cesca Pistoresi at 831-915-9794 Catholic Center PARISH OFFICE 506 N. From Tuesday, September 6, through the end of the Year of Mercy, November 25, confessions will be heard beginning 1/2 hour before the daily Masses at Holy Family and St. Mary’s Monday through Friday by the priest who will celebrate the Mass. (This necessitates the priest leaving the confessional just prior to the start of the Mass so if he is unable to accommodate all the penitents, they will have the opportunity to return the next day or come at the regularly scheduled time of 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.) At St. Mary’s, the priest will use the confessional designated for handicapped (opposite the BVM altar) and at Holy Family, the priest will use the confessional on the north side. You are encouraged to continue to avail yourself of other activities / resources during this Year of Mercy to fully experience how our merciful God works in our lives. An excellent resource is the Jubilee Year of Mercy website: www.iubilaeummisericordiae.va/ content/gdm/en.html Connect with your Parish at our upcoming events! Reflection Welcome to “Lost and Found Sunday”! Just in case being in church makes us proudly consider ourselves especially religious, today’s Gospel suggests that we’d be wiser to admit that we’re sometimes lost. Then we’ll eventually be happily counted among Jesus’ “found,” because today Jesus focuses on a lost sheep, lost coin, lost son. Jesus does so because the Pharisees and scribes, proudly considering themselves especially religious, “began to complain” that Jesus “welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So Jesus warns them—and us—to stop judging others. Marvel instead that God’s amazing grace has found us! Indeed, in this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we should become Jesus’ friends lovingly trying to find others. So Exodus asks, if God “relented in punishment” and pardoned us, shouldn’t we forgive fellow sinners graciously? Even Paul admits his “arrogance” as “foremost among sinners.” We too, happy at being “mercifully treated,” should share with everyone else Jesus’ unfailing patience. Lecturas del día: Ex 32:7–11, 13–14; Sal 51 (50):3– 4, 12–13, 17, 19; 1 Tim 1:12–17; Lc 15:1–32 [1–10] 1 Cor 11:17-26, 33; Sal 40 (39):7-10, 17; Lc 7:1-10 Martes: 1 Cor 12:12-14, 27-31a; Sal 100 (99):1-5; Lc 7:11-17 Miércoles: Nm 21:4b-9; Sal 78 (77):1bc-2, 34-38; Fil 2:6-11; Jn 3:13-17 Jueves: 1 Cor 15:1-11; Sal 118 (117):1b-2, 16ab-17, 28; Jn 19:25-27 o Lc 7:36-50 Viernes: 1 Cor 15:12-20; Sal 17 (16):1bcd, 6-8b, 15; Lc 8:1-3 Sábado: 1 Cor 15:35-37, 42-49; Sal 56 (55):10c-14; Lc 8:4-15 Domingo: Am 8:4-7; Sal 113 (112):1-2, 4-8; 1 Tim 2:1-8; Lc 16:1-13 [10-13] RECONCILIACIÓN La verdadera reconciliación es emocional, dramática y purificadora.
