Student Transfer Procedures 2014-15 Tustin Unified School District Student Services Department – Building G 300 South C Street, Tustin 92780 www.tustin.k12.ca.us Transfer Application Period (all grades): February 24 – March 7, 2014 Application period is the same for both Intradistrict and Interdistrict Applications Applications must be turned in to Student Services by applicant and received by 4 p.m. on the dates below. Schools may not accept applications. Forms are available at any TUSD school, from Student Services or from the TUSD website. Closed Schools: Arroyo Elementary School (All Grades), Orchard Hills School (Grades 5 and 6), and Beckman High School (All Grades) Schools Approaching Capacity: Tustin Ranch Elementary School, Pioneer Middle School, and Foothill High School Please note that space is limited and/or may not be available for all grades and programs at accepting schools. While students are expected to attend the school assigned to their residential area, the Board of Education recognizes some families may wish to choose a different school. The District has designated specific guidelines and application periods for families to apply for a transfer. Applications are processed through a random and unbiased process. There are two transfer categories: Intradistrict for students who reside within the District and wish to attend a TUSD school that is not their assigned school. Interdistrict for students who reside outside the District boundaries but wish to attend school within the TUSD. Qualified students will be accepted if space is available in this priority: 1. Columbus Square Residents (Elementary aged students ONLY) 2. Siblings of Intradistrict transfer students who will continue to attend the requested school 3. New Intradistrict transfer students 4. New Interdistrict transfer students Applications will be accepted from February 24 through March 7, 2014 in the Student Services Office (Building G). Transfers are granted to qualified students providing space is available. If there are more qualified applicants than spaces, a lottery will be held. Once a school or grade reaches capacity, no additional applications will be accepted. Results are FINAL. APPLICATIONS FOR INTRADISTRICT TRANSFERS: February 24 to March 7, 2014 INTRADISTRICT APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR PROCESSED AFTER MARCH 7, 2014 Applications must be received in the Student Services Department by Friday, March 7, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. The application allows for each family to request three schools. Upon submission of an application, student and family are agreeing to withdraw from his/her current school at the conclusion of the 2013-14 school year and are also agreeing to accept placement at ANY of the schools listed on the application. NOTE: Parents who currently have students attending on an Intradistrict transfer who wish to continue do not need to reapply. You only need to reapply if the student is transitioning from elementary to middle or middle to high school. Requests will be processed and a notice of acceptance or denial will be mailed to applicants. All decisions are FINAL. APPLICATIONS FOR INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS: February 24 to March 7, 2014 Interdistrict applications will be accepted after the March 7th deadline. However, applications received after March 7th will not participate in school lotteries. These applications will be processed if the school remains open after all lotteries have been held and if space is available. Interdistrict application forms are obtained from the district of residence and must be turned in to the Student Services Department at the District Office. To be complete, Interdistrict applications from students new to TUSD must have student’s current transcript, attendance and discipline reports attached. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. NOTE: Students currently attending on an Interdistrict transfer who wish to continue must re-apply each year. Requests will be processed and a notice of acceptance or denial will be mailed to applicants. All decisions are FINAL. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Requests will be approved so that there is no adverse impact to special programs or mandated class size limits. Only ONE application may be submitted per school year and once submitted, it cannot be changed or withdrawn. The District’s placement decision is final. If approved, an Intradistrict transfer student shall not be permitted to enroll in his/her school of residence, or any other school in the District during the 2014-15 school year. A transfer permit may be denied or revoked for any of the following reasons: (1) truancy, excessive tardiness or class cuts, (2) poor behavior/citizenship, and/or (3), providing false or incomplete information in making a transfer request. All California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) rules and regulations regarding such transfers and athletic eligibility are applicable. Transfer students are not eligible to participate in the school bus transportation program. It is the parent’s responsibility to provide safe and timely transportation to and from school.
