Seven years ago, a high school football game in Texas made that
kind of difference. The game was played between Gainesville
State School and Grapevine Faith Christian School. Grapevine
Faith is a private Christian school. Gainesville State is a high
school prison, a maximum-security state correctional facility for
285 teenage criminals. Gainesville State lost to Grapevine Faith
33-14 to finish their season 0-9. But ever since that game, the
Gainesville State campus hasn't been the same. Teacher Chris
Styles put it concisely: after that game, he said, "The culture just
switched." Why? Because of how Grapevine Faith hosted the
players from the prison: they treated them like real people, not
hopeless outcasts. First, student fans at Grapevine Faith formed
a 40-yard spirit line for the Gainesville players to run through
before the start of the game. Then, half the Grapevine fans sat
behind the Gainesville sideline and cheered them on - by
numbers and even names - throughout the game. Grapevine
Faith even loaned the Gainesville State Tornadoes their junior
high cheerleaders. Gainesville lost, but they ended up scoring as
many touchdowns in that one game as they had in their eight
previous games combined. And Gainesville State is a different
place now. "It's like people's hearts have really changed," the
superintendent explained. And not just the hearts of the inmates,
but area residents too. They think of the correctional facility
differently now; they encourage the young men there; they even
come out to their games. All because a group of Christians
decided to follow Christ's example and touch the leper instead of
condemning him. Fr. Dan

Queridos Feligreses:
Como el leproso del Evangelio de hoy, cada corazón
humano necesita saber que es amado a pesar de que somos
pecadores y no lo merecemos. Eso hace la diferencia entre una
vida con sentido y una vida vacía.
REFLEXION SOBRE LAS ESCRITURAS - 6o domingo de
tiempo ordinario: Para que todo lo que hagamos sea por la
gloria de Dios. “Hermanos y hermanas, ya sea que coman o
beban o hagan cualquier otra cosa, háganlo todo por la gloria de
Dios.” (1 Corintios 10:31) - Haga una revisión rápida de sus
prioridades. ¿Dónde está Dios en la lista? Si Él no está primero,
tiene trabajo que hacer. El poner a Dios ante todo ayuda a
desarrollar una actitud de "estoy agradecido por los regalos que
Dios me da", en vez de "Quiero más". Para la mayoría de las
personas, la gratitud lleva a la generosidad.
Hace siete años en un partido de fútbol, una escuela
preparatoria en Texas hizo ese tipo de diferencia. El partido se
jugó entre la escuela Gainesville State y Grapevine Fe Cristiana.
La Grapevine Fe Cristiana es una escuela Cristiana privada.
Gainesville State es una escuela-prisión; una correccional de
máxima seguridad del estado de 285 delincuentes juveniles.
Gainesville State perdió contra Grapevine Fe Cristiana por 33-14
para terminar su temporada con 0-9. Pero desde ese juego, el
campus de Gainesville State no ha sido el mismo. El profesor
Chris Styles lo puso en claro. “Después de ese partido,” dijo, "la
cultura cambió.” ¿Debido a qué motivo ? Debido a cómo
Grapevine Fe Cristiana trató a los jugadores de la cárcel: los
trataron como a seres humanos reales, no como a parias sin
remedio. Para empezar, los seguidores de Grapevine Fe
Cristiana formaron una línea de espíritu de bienvenida de 40
yardas para que los jugadores de Gainesville State pasaran
antes de comenzar el juego. Luego, la mitad de los fanáticos de
Fe Cristiana se sentaron detrás de la línea lateral de Gainesville
State y los aplaudieron y los animaron por sus números e incluso
por sus nombres durante todo el juego. ¡Grapevine Fe hasta les
prestó a los Gainesville State Tornados sus porristas de
secundaria! Gainesville perdió el juego, pero terminaron
marcando tantos touchdowns en éste solo juego como habían
marcado en todos los ocho juegos anteriores juntos. Gainesville
State es ahora es un lugar diferente. "Es como si los corazones
de su gente hubiesen cambiado", explicó el Superintendente. Y
no sólo los corazones de los reclusos, sino los de los residentes
del área también. Ahora piensan diferente acerca de la
correccional y dan ánimos a los jóvenes, incluso asisten a sus
juegos. Y todo porque un grupo de Cristianos decidió seguir el
ejemplo de Cristo y tocar al leproso en lugar de condenarlo.

Intercultura, Teología y Ministerio Hispano. El Padre Alfredo
predica retiros y misiones en español e inglés por todos los
Estados Unidos asi como otras asignaciones de su Orden. LA

contribución al DSF nos da los medios para ofrecer asistencia a
las personas de esta parroquia, asi como por toda la
Arquidiócesis por conducto de mas de 60 importantes programas.

EN EL MAGNÍFICAT MARÍA CELEBRA LA OBRA
ADMIRABLE DE DIOS - María, inspirándose en la tradición
del Antiguo Testamento, celebra con el cántico del Magníficat
las maravillas que Dios realizó en ella. Ese cántico es la
respuesta de la Virgen al misterio de la Anunciación: el ángel la
había invitado a alegrarse; ahora María expresa el júbilo de su
espíritu en Dios, su salvador. Su alegría nace de haber
experimentado personalmente la mirada benévola que Dios le
dirigió a ella, criatura pobre y sin influjo en la historia. Con la
expresión Magníficat, versión latina de una palabra griega que
tenía el mismo significado, se celebra la grandeza de Dios, que
con el anuncio del ángel revela su omnipotencia, superando las
expectativas y las esperanzas del pueblo de la alianza e incluso
los más nobles deseos del alma humana.
Frente al Señor, potente y misericordioso, María manifiesta el
sentimiento de su pequeñez: «Proclama mi alma la grandeza
del Señor; se alegra mi espíritu en Dios, mi salvador, porque
ha mirado la humillación de su esclava» (Lc 1,46-48). María
presenta su situación de pobreza y la conciencia de su pequeñez
ante Dios que, con decisión gratuita, puso su mirada en ella,
joven humilde de Nazaret, llamándola a convertirse en la madre
del Mesías. Las palabras «desde ahora me felicitarán todas
las generaciones» (Lc 1,48), toman como punto de partida la
DIA ARQUIDIOCESANO DE JOVENES ADULTOS Y
PASTORAL UNIVERSITARIA - acompaña a cientos de
jóvenes adultos de 18 a 39 años de edad a un día de
formación, Eucaristía, música y convivencia. Habrá 18
talleres con presentadores internacionales, nacionales y
locales que hablaran de cómo fortalecer nuestra relación
con Dios y los demás. Presentado en Ingles y Español.

(Lc 1,45). El cántico, con cierta audacia, predice que esa proclamación se
irá extendiendo y ampliando con un dinamismo incontenible. Al mismo
tiempo, testimonia la veneración especial que la comunidad cristiana ha
sentido hacia la Madre de Jesús desde el siglo I. El Magníficat constituye
la primicia de las diversas expresiones de culto, transmitidas de
generación en generación, con las que la Iglesia manifiesta su amor a la
Virgen de Nazaret. El Poderoso ha hecho obras grandes por
mí; su nombre es santo y su misericordia llega a sus fieles
de generación en generación» (Lc 1,49-50).

REFLECTION ON STEWARDSHIP – 6th Sunday in
Ordinary Time: That everything we do is for the glory of God.
“Brothers and sisters, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you
do, do everything for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31
Do a quick check of your priorities. Where does God rank in that
list? If He’s not first, you have some work to do. Putting God first
in everything helps develop the attitude of, “I am grateful for the
gifts God gave me” instead of “I want more.” For most people
gratitude leads to generosity.

the use of the death penalty devalues human life

ST. JEROME PARISH ANNUAL MEN’S RETREAT:
WEEKEND GET AWAY - When was the last time you devoted a
full weekend to yourself, your faith and the Lord? The Holy Name
Retreat Center invites all men (age 17 & up) to join their fellow
Parishioners from St. Jerome Parish on the weekend of March
27-29 for our annual Men’s retreat. For additional information or

ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASSES IN ST. JEROME
will begin on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 pm in the St. Jerome
School Library. They will continue on Wednesday Evenings
through May 13. This class is open to any baptized Catholic, age
18 and up, who has received their First Communion. They must
be living a single life, or, if married, married in the Catholic
Church. Those interested, please register at the Church Office or
