ANNUAL MISSION APPEAL
On the weekend of July 11th & 12th, Rev. Silvano
Velasquez will be speaking at all the Masses describing
the work of and requesting support for his Society, The
Missionary Fraternity of Mary of Guatemala. Begun in
1981 as a youth ministry with seven young men, the Fraternity was subsequently established as a Society for Apostolic Life in 1990. Since then it has grown to over 200
ordained priests serving 64 missions in 31 dioceses in 11
countries. Currently there are approximately 170 seminarians in various stages of formation at the seminary in
Guatemala.
Fraternity missions are established where there are no
clergy available to fulfill pastoral needs, in difficult economic areas, and among the poor.
Please welcome Father Silvano and be as generous as
you can in support of the work of the Fraternity. Thank

OBSTACLES
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The prophet Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and the Lord Jesus
share something in common in today’s scripture readings.
They all experience obstacles to their ministry. Ezekiel is
summoned to prophesy to the Israelites, who are “hard of
face and obstinate of heart” (Ezekiel 2:4). Saint Paul
recounts how he has been given a “thorn in the flesh” (2
Corinthians 12:7). The Lord Jesus is unable to perform
many signs in his native place. The Gospel tells us that
“He was amazed at their lack of faith” (Mark 6:6). We,
too, sometimes encounter obstacles as we travel along the
journey of faith. So often we experience weakness on this
journey. Let the words of the Lord to Saint Paul
encourage us today: “My grace is sufficient for you, for
power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Last week’s Treasure mentioned the “Nuns of the
Battlefield,” religious sisters from several communities
who served as nurses in the Civil War. Florence
Nightingale had only instituted female nurses a decade
before in the Crimean War, so the idea of women tending
to wounded soldiers was extraordinary. The medical and
sanitary conditions on the battlefields were appalling, and
the sisters were nearly all teachers. Few had any medical
training beyond what they had learned as youngsters in
the family. Anti-Catholic prejudice was so deeply
entrenched in America that sisters could not wear their
habits in public. These sisters were the first, and people
on both the Union and Confederate sides soon began to
marvel at their bravery, efficiency, and respect for
Protestant soldiers. More than six hundred sisters from
twenty-one communities went to war, serving in wretched
conditions. They were tough and single-minded, efficient
and fearless.
After the war, sisters could appear in public
everywhere in the reunited nation, and often received the
praise and gratitude of grateful soldiers and family
members on behalf of their sister nurses. An outdoor
monument to the “Nuns of the Battlefield” stands in
Washington at M Street and Rhode Island Avenue. The
inscription reads: “They comforted the dying, nursed the
wounded, carried hope to the imprisoned, gave in His
name a drink of water to the thirsty.”

HUMOR DNIA
Młoda dziewczyna spowiada się, że często popada w
grzech pychy. – Jak to się dzieje, moje dziecko? - pyta
ksiądz. - Często spoglądam w lustro i zachwycam się
swoją urodą. - To nie grzech, dziecko to zwykła
pomyłka...
Ogłoszenia parafialne: Cała wspólnota dziękuje chórowi
młodzieżowemu, który na czas wakacji zaprzestał swojej
dzałalności.
Aby zaś nie wynosił mnie zbytnio ogrom objawień,
dany mi został oścień dla ciała, wysłannik szatana, aby
mnie policzkował - żebym się nie unosił pychą. Dlatego
trzykrotnie prosiłem Pana, aby odszedł ode mnie, lecz /
Pan/ mi powiedział: Wystarczy ci mojej łaski. Moc
bowiem w słabości się doskonali. Najchętniej więc będę
się chlubił z moich słabości, aby zamieszkała we mnie
moc Chrystusa. Dlatego mam upodobanie w moich
słabościach, w obelgach, w niedostatkach, w
prześladowaniach, w uciskach z powodu Chrystusa.
Albowiem ilekroć niedomagam, tylekroć jestem mocny.
2 Kor 12, 7-10
Jezus przyszedł do swego rodzinnego miasta. A
towarzyszyli Mu Jego uczniowie. Gdy nadszedł szabat,
zaczął nauczać w synagodze; a wielu, przysłuchując się,
pytało ze zdziwieniem: Skąd On to ma? I co za mądrość,
która Mu jest dana? I takie cuda dzieją się przez Jego
ręce. Czy nie jest to cieśla, syn Maryi, a brat Jakuba,
Józefa, Judy i Szymona? Czyż nie żyją tu u nas także Jego
siostry? I powątpiewali o Nim. A Jezus mówił im: Tylko w
swojej ojczyźnie, wśród swoich krewnych i w swoim domu
może być prorok tak lekceważony. I nie mógł tam zdziałać
żadnego cudu, jedynie na kilku chorych położył ręce i
uzdrowił ich. Dziwił się też ich niedowiarstwu. Potem
obchodził okoliczne wsie i nauczał. Mk 6,1-6
REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Znajomość Jezusa wymaga dla równowagi
uświadomienia sobie nieznajomości Jezusa. Okazuje się,
że Jezus nie może w swojej miejscowości zdziałać cudu,
bo jest zbyt znany! Oto poznanie Jezusa utrudnia
ludziom spotkanie z Nim. Ci ludzie, o których usłyszymy,
nie wiedzieli jednak, że nie wiedzą o Jezusie wszystkiego.
Zatwardziałość serca to niedostatek przestrzeni w nim, to
przekonanie, że już nic więcej nie ma i nie może się
zdarzyć. Oczy wzniesione ku Bogu poszerzają przestrzeń
serca...

OBSTÁCULOS
El profeta Ezequiel, san Pablo y el Señor Jesús tienen
algo en común en las lecturas de la Sagrada Escritura de
hoy. Todos encontraron obstáculos en su ministerio.
Ezequiel fue llamado para que profetizara a los israelitas,
convertidos en “un pueblo rebelde” (Ezequiel 2:4). San
Pablo relata cómo se le ha metido una “espina clavada en
mi carne” (2 Corintios 12:7). El Señor Jesús no puede
realizar demasiados milagros en su tierra natal. El
Evangelio nos dice que “estaba extrañado de la
incredulidad de aquella gente” (Marcos 6:6). Nosotros,
también, algunas veces nos topamos con obstáculos al
transitar el camino de la fe. Muchas veces en nuestro viaje
nos sentimos débiles. Que las palabras del Señor a san
Pablo nos animen hoy: “Te basta mi gracia, porque mi
poder se manifiesta en la debilidad” (2 Corintios 12:9).

El fin de semana del 11 de julio y 12, Rev. Silvano
Velásquez estará hablando en todas las Misas para describir el
trabajo de y solicitar apoyo para su Sociedad, La Fraternidad
Misionera de María de Guatemala. Iniciado en 1981 como un
ministerio de jóvenes con siete jóvenes, la Fraternidad se
estableció posteriormente como una Sociedad de Vida
Apostólica en 1990. Desde entonces ha crecido a más de 200
sacerdotes ordenados que sirven 64 misiones en 31 diócesis en
11 países. Actualmente hay aproximadamente 170 seminaristas
en diversas etapas de la formación en el seminario en
Guatemala.
Misiones de la Fraternidad se establecen donde no hay clero
disponibles para satisfacer las necesidades pastorales, en las
áreas de dificultad económica, y entre los pobres.
Démosle la bienvenida al Padre Silvano y ser tan generosa
