WALKING PILGRIMAGE
St. Peter & Paul RC Church, Great Meadows, NJ will
host a 4-day Walking Pilgrimage on August 9th - 12th, from
their church in Great Meadows to Our Lady of Czestochowa
Shrine in Doylestown, PA. Walkers range from infants to
people well into their 70’s. You may join this spiritual trip
any day of the journey, and for as many days as you wish.

BLESSING OF WALKWAY
Through the generosity of a number of parishioners, we
have been able to make improvements to the walkway between the church and rectory. A plaque inscribed with their
names has been displayed and blessed in the walkway following the 5:00PM Mass on Saturday, July 21st.
THE DAYS ARE COMING
Separation, isolation, and hostility are terrible things. We
are, sadly, too familiar with all of them in our modern life,
whether we look at world events or events in our own
neighborhoods and families. All three readings today refer to
these same sad human conditions.
The prophet Jeremiah describes world conditions as if the
people of his time were sheep who had been scattered by poor
leadership and corrupt shepherds. But “the days are coming,”
he assures us (Jeremiah 23:5), when a new shepherd, a just
king, will come. We meet that king in the second reading and
the Gospel. Paul reminds us in the Letter to the Ephesians that
all divisions can now cease in Christ Jesus, who has brought us
together through his blood. In Mark’s Gospel we see Jesus
himself, looking with pity on those searching for him as if they
were sheep without a shepherd.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION 2
The American Revolution cleared the way for freedom
of religion in the former colonies, since the colonies had
always been a more religiously tolerant place than the old
country. Even so, colonial laws restricted the practice of
the Catholic faith, and just as in England, Americans who
desired to be priests or nuns had to go to the Netherlands
or France. As political storm clouds gathered in France,
an American woman, Mother Bernadina Matthews, the
prioress of the Hoogstraeten Carmel in Holland, made a
brave move. With two other American nuns, her nieces,
and a Dutch sister, she came to Port Tobacco, Maryland,
in 1790. Within twenty years the community had grown
to twenty, although by 1823 their farm failed and they had
to move to Baltimore and open a school. The Carmelite
order requires contemplation and cloister, so in time the
school was closed. The Port Tobacco land had long since
been sold, but in 1976 a community of nuns was able to
return thanks to loyal neighbors who had worked for forty
years for their restoration. Today, our original American
convent is fully alive in prayer, hard work, and strong
community.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION 1
“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a
while” must have been chosen for this summer season by a
committee eager for a vacation. For the apostles, the promise of
rest was foiled by the needs of the people who discovered their
hideaway and pressed them into ministry. Some people do
indeed use their vacation for ministry and mission, giving an
intensity of service otherwise not possible. For most of us,
vacation is a time when we can grow more aware of God’s
plan, and can renew the bonds of love with family and friends
in times of play and leisure.
The disciples learn today that there is no place so out of the
way that the life of worship and ministry is disengaged. Giving
yourself to summer worship will enrich you, delight you, and
give you a sense of the word of God’s progress in your heart. In
today’s world, summer is the time when we are most acutely
aware of the beauty of the world. Gratitude and wonder are
fertile soils for God’s word to take root and prosper. Welcome
the visitor today, and resolve that when you travel, you will be
faithful to Sunday worship.

Ksiądz spotyka młodego małżonka, któremu kilka dni
wcześniej udzielał ślubu i pyta jak się mu wiedzie:

Pan mówi: Biada pasterzom, którzy prowadzą do
zguby i rozpraszają owce mojego pastwiska. Dlatego to

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Pan mówi - tak rozpoczyna się i kończy liturgia słowa
tej niedzieli. Tak rozpoczyna się i kończy życie każdego
człowieka. Mamy dziś okazję przyjrzeć się, w jaki
sposób słuchamy głosu Boga, i bardziej się na niego
uwrażliwić. Na ile pozwalamy, aby głos Boga przeniknął
nasze serca, na ile jesteśmy gotowi, by za nim pójść?
Każdego dnia mojego życia Pan mówi do mnie, Pan
mówi o mnie, Pan mówi przeze mnie - czy to
dostrzegam?

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Desde el Concilio Vaticano II la Iglesia, como Pueblo de
Dios, ha tomado la imagen de una peregrinación para definir su
presencia en este mundo. Para los hispanos la peregrinación
más antigua es la de Santiago de Compostela en España cuya
fiesta celebramos esta semana.
Según la tradición, Santiago Apóstol evangelizó España y
después de su muerte su cadáver fue llevado a Galicia por
acontecimientos milagrosos. En el siglo VII señales de estrellas
llevaron al descubrimiento del lugar de su entierro y se
construyó un santuario con el nombre de Campo de Estrellas.
Eventualmente, a finales del primer milenio cristiano,
empezaron las famosas peregrinaciones a Santiago.
Después de muchos siglos la mejor manera de llegar a
Santiago todavía es a pie. Recorrer el camino de Santiago es
caminar sobre las huellas de innumerables peregrinos que
durante más de mil años han ido trazando el sendero. Peregrinar
es caminar despacio por la vida de fe, aguantando lo que el
camino ofrezca con la certeza final de gozar la contemplación
de Dios.

Primera lectura - Después de castigar a los pastores que
engañaron al pueblo, el Señor reunirá el resto del rebaño y

DESCANSA EN EL SEÑOR
Durante varias semanas hemos escuchado lecturas que
relatan la difícil tarea de los profetas y discípulos. En el
Evangelio de hoy, el Señor Jesús escucha lo que le
cuentan los discípulos enviados “de dos en dos” a servir a
la gente. Jesús, comprendiendo que están fatigados, les
dice: “Vengan conmigo a un lugar solitario, para que
descansen un poco” (Marcos 6:31). Quizás esto también
es lo que el Señor les dice a sus discípulos del año 2009.
Debemos hacer un alto en nuestro camino de discípulos y
simplemente descansar en el Señor. La misa del domingo
brinda muchas oportunidades para la reflexión, en
especial durante los períodos de silencio luego de las
lecturas. ¿Por qué no dedicar algo de tiempo hoy a
permitir que la palabra salvadora del Señor penetre tu
corazón en esos silencios? Pídele al Señor que te renueve
en cuerpo, mente y espíritu para que puedas continuar con
la ardua tarea de ser un buen discípulo.
