CHANGES TO THE WORDING OF THE
PENITENTIAL ACT… Beginning on November
27, when we say the Confiteor (“I confess…”),
instead of saying “I have sinned through my own
fault,” we will begin using the new translation, which
better reflects the Latin text and helps us to cultivate a more
humble, sorrowful attitude toward God as we confess our sins.
Here is the new text of the Confiteor, with the changes in bold
print: “I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and
sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my
words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous
fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever-Virgin, all the Angels
and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the
Lord our God.” As we repeat the phrase “through my fault” three
times, we are asked to strike our breasts as a sign of repentance.
As an alternative, instead of reciting the Confiteor, the priest
may begin a brief dialogue with us by saying “Have mercy on us,
O Lord,” to which we respond “For we have sinned against
you.” The priest would then say “Show us, O Lord, your mercy,”
to which we respond “And grant us your salvation.”
Dear Parishioners,
The Peace of the Lord Be With You
We are saddened by the sudden death of
Michael Fallon. His passing was a great
shock to all of us.
Michael was the son of Deacon
Bill Fallon and Mary Fallon. He died on
Saturday night, Oct 10th while exercising. Michael was 40 years
old.
He was a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Washington. He
was a holy, joyous, young man who loved the Lord Jesus. He
was looking forward to becoming a priest.
The death of Michael has made all of us reflect upon our life
and our death. We do not know the hour when God will call us
home.
Michael was prepared to meet Jesus. Are we prepared to
meet Jesus?
Michael’s family is planning to purchase a statue of St.
Michael the Archangel in his memory. Donations can be brought
to the parish office. Please put cash or a check in an envelope
marked “Michael Fallon Memorial Statue.” Make checks payable
to: William L. Fallon.
Please pray for Michael, Bill and Mary and the entire Fallon
family at this difficult time.
In Christ,
