Anointing of the Sick—Anyone facing surgery or dealing with a serious illness should contact the parish office or Fr.
Kevin for the reception of this sacrament. Anointing before surgery can be done prior to or after Mass on the weekends.
Please call the parish office to inform us if you are in need of this sacrament.
Reconciliation—Saturday at 4:15pm or by appointment. Communal penance services are also held twice yearly.
Sacrament of Marriage—Please contact Fr. Kevin at least six months in advance to insure ample time for planning,
preparation, and scheduling your wedding.
Communion to the Sick and Homebound—If you or someone you know is ill, in the hospital, or homebound, please
notify the parish office so a visit can be arranged. Fr. Kevin, one of our deacons, or an Extraordinary Minister of the
Eucharist will be glad to bring Holy Communion.

Rosary Group—Meets on Thursday morning after the 9:00am Mass. Join us in body or spirit as we pray.
Eucharistic Adoration—First Thursday of each month devotion will commence immediately after the 9:00am Mass and
continue until Benediction at 12:00pm.
Membership—Registration forms may be found at the back of the church or by coming to the church office. Please
complete the form and give it to a minister of hospitality or a deacon.
Bulletin Deadline—Announcements and notices for the bulletin must be submitted by 10:00am on Monday for the
following Sunday bulletin. They will run for two weeks. Email them to [email protected]. Announcements
received after the deadline will need to be modified to run in the bulletin on subsequent weeks.
Request for Mass Intentions—In our Church tradition no better gift can be given our beloved departed than a Mass
offered in their memory on the anniversary of their death, birth, or wedding anniversary. There are forms for scheduling
Mass intentions in memory of the departed and special intentions for the living in the pamphlet racks in the
administration building.
Stephen Ministry—Are you going through a difficult time? Stephen Ministers are members of the congregation here to
help you. We listen, care, encourage and provide spiritual support to people facing a crisis or going through tough times.

The St. Matthew Parish
The Annual OLPH Cancer Home Fundraiser culminated at the Annual Fundraiser Luncheon at St Peter Chanel in
Roswell on October 8th. Sincere thanks
to all who made the raffle tickets sale a
huge success. The ticket sales plus
generous donations enabled us to make
an outstanding report of $3,250.
Thanks to Claudette Roberts, Michelle
Whittaker and Scott Whittaker for their
most competitive auction baskets titled
All American Picnic, Gluten Free Treats
and Brazil Olympic Gifts respectively.
Seven St Matthew parishioners were
among the three hundred attendees.
Bids and donations by our parishioners
attending the Luncheon totaled $616.00.
While we had no raffle ticket winners in
many ways we are big winners. Overall
2016 topped 2015 in ticket sales and
donations, bids on our donated baskets,
parishioner attendance and participation
in the Silent Auction. Stay tuned for a
final report on how we ranked and the
correct names of the three prize winners.
Tithing on October 29th and
Oct 30th will go to the victims
of Hurricane Matthew.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary
Please join us n praying the Rosary every Thursday morning
after the 9 AM Mass.
We pray in English and in Spanish.
November 6, 20l6 Saint Matthew and the LifeSouth Community Blood Center will host a blood
drive at the church from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Knights of Columbus will conduct advance
signups before and after the Masses this weekend and next weekend.

First Reconciliation classes take place in the Conference room on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to
8:00 PM. Please be prompt. These classes are in ADDITION to the regular PSR classes that your child is
enrolled in. RECONCILIATION CLASS DATES:

First Reconciliation will be Saturday, NOVEMBER 19th at 10:00 AM
CONFIRMATION CLASSES
Our first session is TONIGHT October 23rd from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Ms. Melissa & Ms. Clare will prepare dinner/snack
for the students. If you are a parent willing to cook for next month’s class, please call Clare in the office.
Students coming to the first class should bring a Xerox copy of their Baptismal and First Communion certificate.
Bring a notebook to take notes.
Due to Confirmation class, those not eligible this year and Teen CORE members of LifeTeen have no class this evening.
The Prison Ministry of St. Matthew is collecting unused all-occasion greeting cards (with envelopes) and
postage stamps for our imprisoned brothers and sisters in Christ. The collection will take place October
22nd through November 6th. Containers will be in the Narthex.

The Knights of Columbus are selling raffle tickets in the narthex after mass. The prize is $1000 worth of gasoline.
Tickets are $5 each, or three for $10. The drawing will be held Oct 30 at the Trunk or Treat celebration. Proceeds
are being used to support our parish youth (Catholic Heart Work Camp, Noonan Scholarship). Thank you.
Gifts of IRA’s: IRAs are not the best asset to leave your children due to the amount of taxes they might have to pay.
A better option is to name the parish endowment fund as a beneficiary on your IRA. Also if you are over 70 ½ you
can make a direct transfer from your IRA to the parish endowment fund and this would not be taxed or counted I

El Ministerio de Prisión esta colectando tarjetas de
felicitación (sin usar) y sellos para nuestros hermanos y

de noviembre para depositar la colección.
Sacramento de Reconciliación
Las clases de preparación para los niños que van
a recibir el sacramento de reconciliación durante
este año tomaran lugar de 6:30-8:00 pm en el
salón de la Iglesia durante los siguiente miércoles:

Reflexiones para la Homilía
Sherlock Holmes y el Doctor Watson estaban acampando en el bosque. Ya se habían acostado bajo el cielo de la
noche, cuando Holmes dijo, "Watson, mira hacia arriba. ¿Que ves?""Veo miles y miles de estrellas," le contesto Watson"¿Y
qué significa eso para ti, Watson?"Y Watson le dijo, "Para mí significa que de todos los planetas del universo, estamos muy
afortunado de estar aquí en la tierra. Somos pequeños en los ojos de Dios, pero muy especial en su corazón. ¿Qué
significa para ti, Holmes? ""Para mí, significa que alguien ha robado nuestra carpa!"Desde el principio de la civilización,
siempre nos hemos hecho una pregunta importante: ¿Quién está a cargo de este vasto universo, y cómo podemos tratar
con él? La gente se imaginaban dioses como los jefes y reyes que conocían: Fuertes y poderosos, pero de mal humor,
vengativos, caprichosos, sin importarle a nadie. Dioses como esos tenían que ser manejados con guantes de seda, con
muchos regalos, sobornos, incienso, y holocaustos. El punto de esto era para domesticar a los dioses y controlarlos, para
que así la gente se pudiera relajar y seguir con su vida. Todo era terriblemente primitivo. Sin embargo hay mucha gente
que hoy día sigue tratando de controlar y manipular a un pequeño y no muy agradable Dios con sobornos, promesas y
prácticas religiosas que no tienen sustancia. Ahí es donde estaba atrapado el fariseo del Evangelio de hoy. Él se
encontraba en el exterior de la vida, en un lugar vacío que él creía que era espléndido. "Gracias a Dios", dijo, "Yo no soy
como el resto de los hombres!" Él no tiene ni idea de Dios ni de él mismo, ni del significado de la vida. Pero el cobrador de
impuestos, a quien el fariseo tanto despreciaba, si entendía: Dios no necesita ser persuadido ni comprado. Él nos ama, y
quiere que seamos feliz. Dios sabe que nunca estaremos completos si Él no nos ayuda y nos perdona. Ese pobre cobrador
de impuestos, parado lejos con la cabeza baja, tenía entendimiento de lo que es orar y adorar a Dios, ya que estas cosas
son para que nosotros seamos cambiados y transformados con la ayuda de Dios. Y el precio de esto es simplemente decir
la verdad (eso es la humildad!): Señor, necesito cambiar, y para hacer eso necesito tu ayuda y tu perdón en grandes
porciones. Si nuestra oración y nuestro venir a adorar juntos no nos están transformando, deberíamos dejar de perder el
tiempo. Eso no quiere decir que dejemos de venir a la iglesia o de orar. Lo que significa es que debemos de venir con un
corazón que está listo para negociar con el Señor en las entrañas de la vida, listo para hablar las palabras que se tienen
que decir desde el corazón: Señor, necesito cambiar...y mucho. Y para hacer eso, necesito que me tomes de la mano y no
me sueltes, aunque no pueda caminar muy rápido, y aunque tropiece constantemente. Confío en ti, Señor. Sé que sabes el
camino a casa, y estoy listo para cambiar de rumbo y dejar que me muestre el camino. Amén.
