HAT'S NOT MY
EXPERIENCE.
One of the common misconceptions about people who
attend church services on Sundays is that they are
faithful because they think "sitting in church" makes
them good people. That's not my experience, the people
who fill the pews in my parish - I bet you could say the
same - are not there because they think passively sitting
in church makes them better than anyone else, they are
there because they want to participate in God's word in
the world and belief in Jesus gives them the comfort and
inspiration to reach outside themselves and to know His
presence.

While visiting her daughter in Inlet Beach, Marie Nasri, a parishioner of St. Rita, woke up at 5
a.m. the morning of May 1 to get ready to go to work at the restaurant she and her husband own
in Blue Mountain Beach.In the early-morning darkness, Marie mistakenly opened the door to
her daughter's elevator shaft, which was under construction, instead of the bathroom door. She
fell 12 feet down the shaft, crushing both heels and breaking both ankles.
Unfortunately, Marie's recovery will take six to 12 months and she will be in a wheelchair for at
least 3.5 to four months. Marie and her husband, Hanie, are the owners of Marie's Bistro in Blue
Mountain Beach, and Marie is the primary cook/chef. Her absence and inability to help in the
restaurant, as well as the financial strain of the surgeries have created a hardship for the Nasris.
The medial bills, surgeries, and rehabilitation themselves will cost more than $800,000. Family
members set up a gofundme account under the name of Mother Nasri's surgery/
recovery, and a special friend and patron of their restaurant is organizing a fundraiser: for
June 8 called "Blues at Blue Mountain Beach."
That special friend is former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Huckabee lives in Blue
Mountain Beach and frequently dines at Marie's.Blues at Blue Mountain Beach will feature Jeff
Carlisi, a founding member of the band .38 Special, and blues music by other local musicians and
special guests, including Huckabee. Huckabee said he will play during the event, and he invites
anyone else who plays an instrument to come and join him.
Attendees are requested to: come prepared to make a contribution to the fund set up to help
with Marie's medical and rehab expenses. The Nasris must begin making payments on her
medical bills by the end of May."We are lucky to still have Marie with us," said Hanie. "I thank
