Mission Statement
Saint Peter’s Church is a Catholic community devoted to deep and abiding
friendship with Jesus Christ. We strive to build upon the legacy of faith entrusted
to us by the Catholic pioneers who courageously established Saint Peter’s – an
ethnically and economically diverse community unified through the power of
the Holy Spirit in the truth and love of Jesus Christ. Mindful of this legacy as well
as our need for ongoing conversion amidst new challenges, today, in our fourth
century, we seek friendship with Jesus through our commitments to:
• Understand and proclaim His saving truth revealed in the
Bible in union with the official teaching authority of the
Catholic Church.
• Worship joyfully His living presence in the sacraments,
especially the Eucharist.
• Recognize His face in those we are privileged to serve and
protect, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
• Welcome Him in each other through our fellowship and
unity amidst the rich diversity of our parish community.
• Encounter Him and the beauty of His creation by preserving
our parish as a peaceful and prayerful sanctuary.
• Hear His personal call to holiness and help families embrace it
in all vocations, especially to priesthood or consecrated life.
• Imitate His generous self-giving as a way of life that expresses
our gratitude to Him and our love for God and neighbor.

The Perfect GIFT
All good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming
down from the Father of lights… (James 1:17)
Faith is like a bright ray of sun light. It enables us to see God
in all things as well as all things in God. (St. Francis de Sales)
Dear St. Peter’s Family,
Gifts come in all shapes, sizes and styles. Some are
expected and others are surprises. Many are just
what we want and many are not quite what we
had on our wish lists. The value may be hidden or
quite clear. Our hearts, minds and spirits must
embrace all of the possibilities if we are to be
the gracious, enthusiastic givers and receivers we’re
intended to be.
Our Catholic faith is a gift from God! This gift
is not one that is intended to just keep for and to
ourselves. God lights a fire in us that we are called
(by virtue of our baptism) to carry into the
world. Not some, but all of us! It is meant to be
shared, even in the unexpected encounters we
have within and outside of our parish community.
We are indeed challenged by God’s gift of faith to
be gift to one another.
One of our parish goals for the upcoming “year” is
to continue growing in faith together by
strengthening our families, supporting their spiritual,
emotional and sometimes physical needs. Our
definition of family is not limited to parents with
children; it embraces all of our parish family without
regards to marital status or station in life. Here are a
few of the changes we plan to implement in the
2014/2015 timeframe.
Babysitting during 10:00 Mass
If we are blessed with enough adult volunteers, we
plan to offer this service beginning in September.
It’s a ministry that has built in growth potential and
provides a foundation for faith formation in the
years to come. The age group will be children ages
1 through 3.
Time is 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Adult sessions
begin on August 24.
High School Youth Ministry Changes
High school youth group sessions will be held
on two Sundays a month from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00
p.m. One Sunday each month we will host Youth
Night for ages 12-18. We are hopeful that this
schedule will meet the need for more family
time on the weekends without creating additional
week night sessions.
Baptism Greeters and Mentors
We are actively
recruiting interested people
(married couples or singles of all ages and
backgrounds) to serve as parish greeters for our
baptism celebrations and mentors for the families
celebrating.
Discipleship Opportunities for All Ages/ Families
We are currently exploring different opportunities
within the parish and community-at-large to see
what can be offered for families, groups of teens,
Confirmation candidates, young adults, seniors
(et al) to work together to help the poor, vulnerable
and disenfranchised people in our midst.
This faith we share is a living, breathing, Holy
Spirit anointed process. While this is not an
exhaustive list for changing and improving, it’s a
good start. Please contact me if you have ideas you
would like to share. May God bless us with
understanding and compassionate hearts as we seek
to find His gift of faith in the unexpected
encounters of our lives.
Sincerely in Christ’s love,
RCIA in English/Spanish
The RCIA will meet on every Sunday that we
have our faith formation sessions. Provided for
adults in English and Spanish, and for children
ages 8 – 14 who need to prepare for the sacraments
of initiation.

ST. CAJETAN, PRIEST (1480 – 1547)
St. Cajetan, an Italian nobleman, was
the
leading
founder
of
the
THEATINE
ORDER
(Theatine
Clerks Regular).
Educated in
theology and law at Padua University
and ordained in 1516, he refounded a
confraternity called the Oratory of
Divine Love. Later he and the future
Pope Paul IV (at that time the bishop
of Theate), founded a congregation of
vowed diocesan clergy following the
Rule of St. Augustine. Taking their
name from the bishop’s diocese of
Theate, they focused on preaching,
sacraments, study, and care for the
sick and the poor. They were
outstanding among the Catholic
reform movements before the
Protestant Reformation.

The new formation model for catechist certification includes a culminating formation retreat. A vital element of
catechetical methodology is witness within the Christian community. Upon completion of the theological and
methodological requirements (Living Catholic, Faith Foundations and
Catechesis 101), catechists will attend a Catechist Formation Retreat (5

of the certification process. The first catechist certification retreat is
scheduled for Saturday, September 6, from 9:00AM- 3:00PM at St. Peter’s.

Steubenville Youth Conference 2014
“Franciscan University hosted its first Steubenville Youth Conference in 1976, when 1,000 youth and young adults
gathered on our campus in Steubenville, Ohio, for a weekend of prayer, praise, and reflection. This summer, more
than 40,000 teens will participate in 18 different youth conferences across North America, discovering the richness of
the Catholic Church and encountering the truth of Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament. Their mission is to bring
teens into a life changing encounter with the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.”
Two St. Peter’s youth, Glori Beverly and Jensen Conklin, along with five youth
from Our Lady Help of Christians, were chaperoned by their Director of
Religious Education, Therese Theideman and Catechist, Matt Castro, this past
July 11-13 to the Main Campus #4 Conference.
Back: MC Bob Rice & OLHC DRE Therese Theideman
L-R Front: Glori Beverly and Jensen Conklin
I really enjoyed the Steubenville conference. I
gained such a closer relationship with God
through many lectures, masses, and adoration.
Adoration was my favorite part of the weekend
because for the first time, I realized and felt truly
in the presence of Him. The music and talks
were amazing. I even downloaded some of the
music to my iPod. I even made some new
friends from Our Lady Help of Christians. I
hope we can do more joint activities with
OLHC. I can't wait to go again next summer!
Jensen Conklin
Steubenville was very fun and I feel like I got closer to God. It helped me reflect on my
faith and grow stronger. I felt like it strengthened my relationship with God and it was
cool to see other kids just like me worshiping God. The woman's talk was my favorite
part of the conference. We talked about self confidence and self respect. I also
became closer with the other teens from OLHC. Glori Beverly

necesidades espirituales, emocionales y a veces físicas.
