The Most Holy Trinity Page 2 The Most Holy Trinity May 22, 2016 [T]he love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. — Romans 5:5b JOURNEY OF FAITH We are on a long and eventful journey. Today’s readings for Trinity Sunday succinctly cover the depth and breadth of our human travels. The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the reading from Proverbs. God’s plan filled with divine wisdom was born before the earth was made. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and will return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate—the Spirit of Truth—take us onward. This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard. The very setting of the Gospel is the night before Jesus died. As Saint Paul writes to the Romans, “[W]e even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope” (Romans 5:3-4). Ultimately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy Trinity—a family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are all called to emulate. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. The Most Holy Spirit Page 4 He goes on Sunday to Church, and sits among his boys; and hears the clergy pray and preach, he hears his daughters voice singing in the village choir, and it makes his heart rejoice. In my favorite poem “The Village Blacksmith” by Longfellow, the blacksmith draws great strength from God and his children. As a priest my life is blessed by the young people of our parish. Longfellow towards the end of his poem says, “Thanks, thanks to thee my worthy friend, for the lesson thou hast taught.” Thanks, thanks to our youth for bringing all of us to God. About a month ago our Confirmation class celebrated the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This group has given great leadership in lecturing and serving Mass. They are not afraid to step forward when help is needed. I’m sorry if I pushed you too hard to attend Mass. I love the Mass and I want you to have the same experience. Two weeks ago we celebrated First Holy Communion. When the parents placed their hands on the shoulders of their children as they received First Communion . . . . . I remembered their promises at Baptism to bring their children to God. The day after, the families all returned and the First Holy Communion children crowned Our Lady and said “Thank You” to Mary. Last weekend the One Voice choir gave glory and praise to God as they sang for us. I loved how they attended the 10:30am Mass in their suits and beautiful dresses and how they were part of the choir. As we were about to commence our liturgy, I saw someone trying to tell Keegan to cover his bow-tie under his altar server uniform. I told them let him express himself. Besides serving the Mass he sang beautifully and I lip synced next to him. This year our children brought at least ten of their parents to the RCIA program. Sunday evening was complete when our Youth Group invited me to share dinner with them. There were close to thirty present and they had great fun together. Under the leadership of Brenda Fischer and her team, our youth have gone on Missionary Pilgrimages. Two years ago they worked in an orphanage in Mexico. Last year they worked for the homeless in San Francisco. This year over twenty of our teens are going to Poland for World Youth Day with Pope Francis. Our children are a great blessing. Continue your generosity by acknowledging them. Volunteer to help our school and also buy Scrip. As a parish we need three or four more teachers for our Religious Education. Our Youth Group could not do the great work they do without your help and prayers. From the depths of my heart I say “Thank You” to our youth. May God continue to Bless us, adults and youth on our journey of life. God Bless, Fr. The youth of the parish and the adult core team wish to thank Father Mike for prayerfully and financially supporting our youth ministry in so many ways from our mission trips to Mexico and San Francisco to our World Youth Day pilgrimage to Poland this summer to see Pope Francis. You will be missed, but know that you have taught us how to work hard and to care for others in Jesus’ name. St. Teresa of Avila Youth Ministry welcomes all high school and newly confirmed teens to our gatherings and activities.
