Our Pastor’s Message
A very Happy Easter to all of you. On this day on which
we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord, we celebrate our
own salvation as well. For this we are truly eternally grateful. For the many of you who have celebrated and observed
all of Lent, and very specially Holy Week, this is truly a time
to rejoice and appreciate God’s help and all of our efforts to
know the Lord better over these past few weeks.
We have focused a lot of attention over the past few
months on the Holy Father’s designation of this year as the
Year of Mercy. While we celebrate Easter and the glory of
the day, we may not be thinking of this as a celebration of
mercy, but it most certainly is. The whole point of Easter is
the saving work of Jesus to bring us redemption. This was
necessary because of the sin that had come into the world
and the participation of the whole human family in sin. Thus
the ultimate expression of mercy came in God’s offering his
Son to us and for the forgiveness of our sins. This truly is
the mercy of God offered to us, so let us rejoice.

Archbishop Cupich wants your input.
When Archbishop Cupich announced the “Renew My Church”
initiative in January, he invited everyone in the Archdiocese of
Chicago to participate in the process of revitalizing our parish
communities. Just as Pope Francis asked Catholics across the
globe for their input prior to the Synod of Bishops meetings in
2014 and 2015, Archbishop Cupich is asking for your help as
the Archdiocese begins a new listening phase of this historic
effort.
Please take time to respond to a survey designed to help
Archbishop Cupich and the Archdiocese better understand the
perspectives of Catholics across Cook and Lake Counties. The
survey will be available beginning on Easter Sunday at:

El mensaje de nuestro párroco
Un muy feliz día de Pascua para todos ustedes. En este día
en el que celebramos la resurrección del Señor, también celebramos nuestra propia salvación. Por eso estamos eternamente agradecidos. Para muchos de ustedes que han celebrado y guardado toda la Cuaresma, y muy especialmente la
Semana Santa, este tiempo es verdaderamente para alegrarse
y valorar tanto la ayuda de Dios y todo nuestro esfuerzo para
conocer mejor al Señor durante estas últimas semanas.
Hemos enfocado nuestra atención en los últimos meses en
la designación del Santo Padre de este año como el Año de la
Misericordia. Celebramos la Pascua y la gloria del día, y es
posible que no pensemos en ello como una celebración de
misericordia, pero ciertamente lo es. El propósito de la
Pascua es que la obra salvadora de Jesús nos trae la redención. Esto fue necesario a causa del pecado que había venido
al mundo y la participación de toda la humanidad en el pecado. Por lo que la maxima expresión de misericordia vino
de Dios al ofrecernos a su Hijo para el perdón de nuestros
pecados. Esta es en verdad la misericordia que Dios nos
ofreció, así que alegrémonos.

El Arzobispo Cupich quiere conocer su opinión.
Cuando el Arzobispo Cupich anunció la iniciativa “Renueva mi
Iglesia” el pasado mes de enero, invitó a todos los miembros de
la Arquidiócesis de Chicago a participar en el proceso de revitalización de nuestras comunidades parroquiales. Del mismo modo
que el Papa Francisco pidió a los católicos de todo el mundo que
compartieran sus pensamientos y opiniones antes del Sínodo de
los Obispos de 2014 y 2015, el Arzobispo cupich está pidiendo

Jubilee of Mercy
OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Risen Lord,
When we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord at Easter, we affirm the
center of our faith and we renew our hope. Jesus’ Resurrection signals His victory
over sin and death. He has conquered whatever would diminish us and separate us
from God and the fullness of life.
We all need this celebration of Easter which can be like an infusion of
air and light in our lives which are often weighed down by sickness, anxiety, broken relationships, and personal struggles with sin and temptation. As we continue
our life journey, we can count on the Resurrection of Jesus as a sure compass of
hope that helps us navigate our turbulent world.
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we clearly recognize that the Resurrection
of Jesus is the triumph of God’s mercy. The new life and hope that the Resurrection brings us is not the result of our works or merits. It is pure grace, a sheer gift
of love that comes to us because of God’s mercy. When we stand before that
mercy, we know that we are both indebted and responsible. We are also responsible, for if mercy has touched us we must then be the hands and instruments of
God’s mercy in the world. When we carry on the spiritual and corporal works of
mercy, we give living witness to our faith in His most merciful Resurrection.
Let us pray for one another. Let us renew our faith in the power of
Christ’s Resurrection to bring God’s mercy and renewal to a world in need.

Cuando durante la Pascua celebramos la Resurrección del Señor, afirmamos el centro de nuestra fe y renovamos nuestra esperanza. La Resurrección de
Jesús señala Su victoria sobre el pecado y la muerte. Él ha vencido todo lo que nos
disminuiría y nos separaría de Dios y de la plenitud de la vida.
Todos necesitamos esta celebración de la Pascua, que puede ser como
una infusión de aire y luz en nuestras vidas, las cuales a menudo se encuentran
apesadumbradas por la enfermedad, la ansiedad, las relaciones rotas y las luchas
personales contra el pecado y la tentación. En nuestro andar por ese camino que es
la travesía de nuestra vida, podemos contar con la Resurrección de Jesús como una
brújula segura de esperanza que nos ayuda a navegar nuestro mundo turbulento.
En este Jubileo de la Misericordia, reconocemos claramente que la
Resurrección de Jesús es el triunfo de la miseericordia de Dios. La nueva vida y
esperanza que nos trae la Resurrección no es el resultado de nuestros trabajos o
méritos. Es pura gracia, un gran regalo de amor que nos llega a causa de la misericordia de Dios. Cuando estamos ante esa misericordia sabemos que estamos en
deuda, y que además somos responsables. Estamos en deuda con el Señor por Su
regalo, y lo único que podemos hacer es dar gracias y cantar sus alabanzas. También somos responsables, porque si la misericordia nos ha tocado entonces debemos ser las manos y los instrumentos de la misericordia de Dios en el mundo.
Cuando llevamos a cabo las obras espirituales y corporales de misericordia, damos un
testimonio viviente de la fe que profesamos a Su más misericordiosa Resurrección.
Oremos unos por otros. Renovemos nuestra fe en el poder que posee la
Resurrección de Cristo para llevar la misericordia y la renovación de Dios a un
mundo necesitado.
