Thank you for coming home and remembering one another! Thank you for coming home and remembering Him Who said: “Do this in Memory of Me! Anyone and everyone in attendance at our second offering of this year’s Series, including Our Holy Redeemer’s eighth Pastor Monsignor Richard Figliozzi (Father Rick), Freeport Village Mayor Robert Kennedy, and former Freeporter and Our Holy Redeemer parishioner Alice Mugno, truly experienced an “enchanted evening”. We golfed at Eisenhower Park. We sang at the Metropolitan Opera House. We danced on Broadway. And we even pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America: all at 175 Woodcleft Avenue! What a gift coming home to the waterfront has been over the years. It is very unlikely that in 1981, when Monsignor Saverio Mattei requested and received permission from Bishop McGann (†) to offer a Boat Mass in Freeport (literally aboard a boat donated by Mr. Joseph Scalamandre), anyone could have envisioned what’s taking place on Grover’s Dock at 175 Woodcleft Avenue in 2016. Our Holy Redeemer not only continues to offer Mass there on Sunday mornings in July and August at 10:00 A.M., but for the past three years, Our Holy Redeemer has sponsored a Summer Concert Series on the Mile that is helping more and more people see why coming home is what it’s all about. The page next door provides information about the remaining Wednesday night concerts in Our Holy Redeemer’s III Summer Concert Series. This year’s 31 August finale will once again feature the choirs from Our Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church and the Greater Second Baptist Church where many of you were recently welcomed with Fathers Alessandro and Carlos by the church’s Pastor, our good friend, Reverend Eric Mallette, to pray together for Peace. That Peace will be a major theme of our final concert, and everyone in attendance will have the opportunity in the words of Saint Francis of Assisi: to be an instrument of Peace! Please join us. Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is error, truth; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled, as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. Mercy Night Monday, 15 August 2016 7:45 P.M. to 10:45 P.M. Curé of Ars Roman Catholic Church 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, New York 11566 (516) 623-1400 In this, The Year of Mercy, you are cordially invited to join us at St. John Vianney, Curé of Ars Roman Catholic Church in Merrick for Mercy Night. It will be a beautiful candlelit evening filled with adoration, contemplative worship and Taize chant. Selected excerpts from the Diary of St. Faustina will be read intermittently throughout the evening and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available. Whether you are looking to deepen your faith or even if you haven’t been to church in years, you are encouraged to join us for an evening of quiet refuge and private prayer. Think of it as a mini-retreat for the weary pilgrim. OUR HOLY REDEEMER ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH FREEPORT, NEW YORK 1911-2011 GUESS WHO’S COMING HOME TO OFFER MASS ON THE WATERFRONT NEXT SUNDAY? WHAT DO YOU DO . . . . . .when inclement weather or sickness prevents you from attending Sunday Mass at Our Holy Redeemer, or family/business obligations take you to Sunday Mass somewhere other than Our Holy Redeemer? More than likely, if you use Parish Envelopes to make your offering, you will place “Sunday-missed” envelopes in the Offertory basket the next time you attend Mass. If you don’t use envelopes, it is more than likely that your Sunday-missed offering will remain missing, which makes it very hard for Our Holy Redeemer to pay bills and provide services. E-Giving, like Offertory Envelopes (thank you for using them) provides you with a way of exercising faithful stewardship even when inclement weather or sickness prevents you from attending Sunday Mass at Our Holy Redeemer, or when family/business obligations take you to Sunday Mass somewhere other than Our Holy Redeemer. I USE E-GIVING! Question: What is E-Giving? Answer: E-Giving is short for electronic giving. It is an automatic transfer program which allows you to make contributions without writing checks. Question: What are the advantages of E-Giving? Answer: It saves time and work! It helps the church stabilize its budget. Surveys have shown that it can enhance the total amount of gifts to your organization. Members or supporters may donate while on vacation or on a business trip anywhere in the world. ENROLLING Question: How do I enroll in E-Giving? Answer: On your computer, go to the Parish Web site, www.ohrfreeport.org and then click on the “Donate” tab and then on “Donate Now” tab and then submit our zip code, 11520, then click on “Donate Now” under the Our Holy Redeemer name, then click on the “Register Now” tab and follow the simple instructions. PAYMENT METHODS Question: If there is a credit card charge, how does the charge appear on the payee's statement? Is it to E-Giving or Our Holy Redeemer? How would the person who makes a charge recognize where the charge went from the description on their statement? Answer: The charge appears as E-Giving. E-Giving combined with the date and amount on their statement should be all they need. For more information about E-Giving visit the secure web site at www.e-giving.org. Once we were in the middle of the cave, several hundred feet underneath the earth, the lights went out and we found ourselves in total darkness. But there was no need to panic, the tour guide and our teacher immediately turned on very strong flashlights and we followed them closely back up the steps and to the light of day. They were prepared for the emergency. We too need to be prepared for the Lord’s coming. Jesus says: “Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on His arrival” (See Luke 12:32-48). Are you ready? Are you vigilant? How can we prepare ourselves as the tour guide and my teacher were? Saint Paul tells us that as we walk in darkness, our journey to our heavenly homeland is illuminated by faith. Let us then continue to take care of our Precious Catholic Faith which will light our way as we prepare for the Lord who will come again, perhaps in the midst of the night. B E YE PREPARED Jesus said to His disciples, “Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. … Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” Saint Luke XII: 32-48 Directions: Find the words below from today’s Scripture reading in the puzzle.
