From the Pastor’s Desk,
Dear Parishioners and Little Flower
Friends,
The Solemnity of Pentecost (fifty days
after Easter) marks the beginning of
the Church with the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Counselor promised by
Jesus before his departing to heaven is a reality for his disciples
and for all of us. Through His Spirit, He will be with until the
end of the world. Our defender will encourage us to spread
the Good News and profess our faith openly.
The words of today’s Gospel say: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon
me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of
sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a
year acceptable to the Lord.”
This is a year of grace, a year of Mercy in which we are invited
to proclaim the Word of the Lord and give testimony of what
we profess through the works of mercy.
May the Lord and His Holy Spirit inspire us, guide us, be with us
and assist us in our necessities.
Fraternally,
Fr. Luis Gerardo Belmonte-Luna, O.C.D.

PENTECOST SUNDAY
PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish your
work in the souls of your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may
perfect in my soul, the work of your grace and your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of your divine truth, the Spirit on Counsel that I may ever
choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross
with you and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of
Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit
of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled
with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord
with the sign of your true disciples, and animate me in all things with your Spirit. Amen.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad
dings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to cap ves and recovery
of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year
acceptable to the Lord.””

A pilgrimage is a journey undertaken for a religious purpose most often to a sacred place.
The word “pilgrim,” derived from the Latin peregrinum, conveys the idea of wandering over a distance, but it is not just aimless wandering. It is a journey with a purpose, and that purpose is to honor
God. One of the earliest usages of the word is found in the writings of Saint Augustine of Hippo
(354-430). His work, Peregrinatio, described a Christian spiritual journey as a kind of self-imposed
exile of the pilgrim in which he searched for God’s Truth in his wanderings while visiting the holy
shrines of the Faith.
