FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
This Sunday we celebrate the end of the Easter season with our celebration of Pentecost. Our celebration of Pentecost
reflects the Jewish feast of Pentecost, which took place 50 days after the Passover and which celebrated the sealing of the
covenant on Mount Sinai. On the first Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, they were given the gifts
of the Holy Spirit. What Are the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit? The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom,
understanding, counsel, fortitude (or courage), knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. Those gifts helped the apostles to
fulfill their mission to preach the Gospel to all nations. We too are given these gifts and we receive these gifts in Baptism and
Confirmation. How do know that we have received these gifts of the Holy Spirit? The gifts of the Holy Spirit are made
manifest in our lives in the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are seen in how we live out our daily lives.
What Are the Twelve Fruits of the Holy Spirit? The twelve Fruits of the Holy Spirit are charity, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. On this Pentecost Sunday may
we be open to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit into our lives so that we can receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and live in our
daily lives the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Come Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be
created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
In the Spirit and fire of God’s LOVE,

REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK


St. Paul tells us that we all have unique gifts for the good of others. What
is special about you? How can you use those gifts to help others – friends,
family, strangers?
Even as working disciples of Christ, we are given the gift of peace. How do
you experience this gift, and how do you share it with others?

Our purpose is to help people in need, in a confidential manner,
through various charitable works and services. We serve our
clients by providing food baskets at Thanksgiving, and food and
gift baskets at Christmas to more than 25
families who
otherwise would not have had a holiday meal. We provide tuition
assistance to Sacred Heart students. We help families with
utility and rent assistance. We host a monthly bingo party at
Fountain West. Weekly, we deliver bread to St. Joseph's Family
Emergency Shelter, the Catholic Worker House and the Bethel
Mission.
We feed the hungry by providing food at Cafe
Connection each month.
We collect furniture and clothing
donations for the St. Vincent de Paul store.
We are thankful for our Parishioners' generous support to allow
us to continue this mission. We welcome new members. If you
are interested in joining the Sacred Heart Conference of the St.
Vincent de Paul Society, please go to the parish website and

SUMMER SMASH: Programming for the current school year is
winding down, but Student Ministry at Sacred Heart will still be
active throughout the summer. A group of 19 youth and chaperones
will be traveling to the Diocese of Brownsville in south Texas in June
to help with home repair and neighborhood revitalization in the
poorest diocese in the U.S. In July, a group of teens will be joining
thousands of other young Catholics at the Steubenville Summer
Conference in Springfield, MO to celebrate and go deeper into their
faith.
Finally, there will be various local service opportunities offered
throughout the summer. We are excited to partner with Courage
League Sports once again to provide buddies to the special needs
children that participate in their summer camps. Watch your email
and the bulletin for dates and registration information on these
events.
CONFIRMATION 2016: The 2016 Confirmation prep class has
completed sessions for this spring and will start back up in the fall.
The final required sessions are:

year who have been enrolled in CFF or Catholic school through 8 th
grade or have completed a “High School Start-Up Class”. Visit

 CATHOLIC TUITION ORGANIZATION (CTO)
The CTO was established in 2006. It is a 501©3 charitable
organization and provides vital tuition assistance to qualified Iowa
families thanks to the tremendous generosity of our donors. When
you donate, you help bridge the affordability gap for children and
families who want a Catholic education but need tuition assistance.
Your generous gift becomes eligible for an Iowa state tax credit
AND federal tax savings, and is one of the most tax-efficient ways
to leverage your charitable giving. Every family that meets the
income guidelines is guaranteed tuition assistance, based on their
financial need.

Confirmation. It’s time to register for the fall! Please go to the home
page of our web site at: www.sacredheartwdm.org and watch the
scrolling banner for the link (Sunday Preschool = daisies; Wednesday
CFF = praying First Eucharist girl; Confirmation = a family with the
Bishop). There are separate on-line registration forms for all three
programs.
Even if you attended last year, please register by June 30! Please call
our office if you have questions!
RCIA—RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
Congratulations to those adults who were confirmed and fully initiated
into the Catholic Church this weekend:
BRYAN ARNDT
JOHN BREES
SCOTT HENDRICKS
JON INGRAHAM
TIFFANY PESEK
FOREST PURNELL
Please extend a warm welcome and continue to hold in prayer these
newly confirmed members of our parish.
Would you like to learn more about becoming Catholic? Please contact
Casey Conner, RCIA director, at [email protected] or
515-225-6414 ext. 309.
As an example, a $1,000 donation to CTO qualifies for a 65% Iowa
Tax Credit ($650), and a 28% Federal Tax Deduction ($280)
[assuming federal tax rate is 28% - consult your tax advisor to
determine actual savings], making the out of pocket expense only
$70! It is easy to see how even a small donation can make a
significant impact on the life of a family receiving this benefit.
For more information on whether you would qualify as a recipient, or
how to make a donation, visit www.ctoiowa.org.

Hermanos con la fiesta de Pentecostés,
terminamos el tiempo pascual y iniciamos el
tiempo ordinario.
os he dicho..., éis mis testigos...»
