WHERE IS GOD CALLING YOU?
Fortnight for Freedom: Save the Dates
The Fortnight for Freedom: Freedom to Bear Witness
will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2015, a time
when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of
great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of
persecution by political power - St. Thomas More
and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter
and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year's
Fortnight will focus on the "freedom to bear witness" to the truth of the Gospel.
This is the fourth Fortnight, which was originally instituted by the U.S. Bishops
in 2012. The Fortnight for Freedom is a response to the U.S. Bishops’ call to
fourteen days of prayer, education, and action for religious freedom in the United
States and abroad. For more information about the Fortnight for Freedom in the
Archdiocese of Atlanta, please contact the Respect Life Ministry at 404-9207362, or send an email to [email protected].

Mass for Fr. Kieran
Please join fellow parishioners for Father Richard Kieran’s 50th anniversary of
ordination to priesthood on Saturday, June 20. Mass will be offered at 4 pm at the
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2855 Briarcliff Road NE, Atlanta. A reception
will follow after Mass. Over the years Father Richard served in several key
leadership positions in the Archdiocese. He was administrator and then Rector at
the Cathedral of Christ the King from June 1987 to June 1990.
Congratulatory messages can be sent to: Reverend Richard Kieran, Golden Living
Center #454, 5470 Meridian Mark Road, Atlanta, GA 30342.
Ushers Needed
We are currently recruiting men and women to fill the vital role of ushers at all of
our weekend Masses. Among other things our ushers greet people, help with
seating, receive offertory and assist in the communion procession. Ushers are the
“first faces” that greet the Faithful, and are important in creating a warm,
welcoming and worshipful atmosphere.
Qualifications? We are looking for friendly, motivated people, high school age on
up, to serve in this role. Want more info? Talk to an usher after Mass or email our
Head Usher, Sid Turner, at [email protected].
MUST Replaces Snack Bag Making for Summer
Please note that the MUST Summer Lunch Making sessions are held during the
summer weeks and there is no Wednesday Snack Bag Making. MUST takes place
on Mondays at 4:30 pm in the CKS Cafeteria. Be a part of MUST! To learn more,
see Page 5.
Father’s Day Novena—Last Week!
A novena of Masses will be said at our parish for fathers,
grandfathers, and other loved ones. Pick up a Father’s Day
Spiritual Bouquet Envelope, which contains a Father’s Day card,
and complete the information on the front. Return the outside
envelope to the parish office before Father’s Day.
Your envelope will be placed on the altar during Mass for the
nine days of the novena. There is also a special envelope in your
offertory envelope packet for June.

the privilege of being part of someone’s spiritual journey into the
Church.

How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas LaBouff
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kountz & Family
Today, Ezekiel describes how God nurtures the trees to give shade and a dwelling for birds.
This reading is linked to St. Mark’s Gospel that features Jesus telling the parable of the
mustard seed. This seed is one of the smallest of seeds, yet grows to a plant large enough for
birds to nest there. Faith in Christ, too, may start out small, but when nurtured through the
Eucharist and other sacraments, prayer, and the Word of God, can grow to be very powerful.
We, as faith-filled stewards, know that as our discipleship in Christ grows, so, too, does our
stewardship obligation in building the kingdom of God.

Must summer lunch
MUST Summer Lunch Kicks Off
Parishioners of all ages gathered for the first
MUST Sandwich Making on Monday, June 1.
Gayle Kruger, MUST Ministries Summer Lunch
Coordinator, pictured far right, explained to
CTK parishioner/drivers Leanne Shafley and
Prescott Kerutis how the lunches get
distributed to the children.
Did you know . . .
We use 8 cases of bread, 1.5 cases of cheese and 6 cases of
ham each week? It costs approximately $1,500 a week to
make 1,000 sandwiches and lunches each week. Your
financial contributions make it possible!
These smiling faces
Made 1,000 sandwiches in 1 hour, 15 minutes. Your donations
are so very necessary. Each week, we need 1,000 bags of potato
chips, juice boxes and cookies to make up a lunch.
This is where our lunches go each week.
This room at Roswell United Methodist
Church is Summer Lunch Central! The
bags are checked, sandwiches are
included and boxed by route. Drivers
then pick the up and deliver them to the
children.

When ‘Cheer up’ Doesn't
Work
You’ve heard it time and time again:
“Cheer up … Get over it . . . It’s not
that bad.” Maybe people have said it
to you. Or perhaps you keep saying it
to yourself. But it hasn’t helped.
You’re still hurting. Things are
coming apart.
Here’s the good news: You don’t have
to go through your struggle alone.
Help is available. Our Stephen
Ministers are trained caregivers who
will walk with you, listen to you, and
provide confidential, one-to-one care
as you sift through the pieces and
find what is truly in your heart.
Contact Linda Dyson at 404-2332675 to learn more.
Become a driver and get this shirt! MUST urgently
needs drivers to deliver lunches to the children each
day. A background check is required. Contact Gayle at

Memorial Day Celebration
Christ the King School celebrated Memorial Day on Friday, May 22, 2015. The
children arrived at school to a driveway lined with American flags. The children
were dressed in red, white, and blue and wore patriotic hats they designed to
show their patriotism. Buddy poppies were available during morning carpool.
The donations went to a local VFW to help a returning vet. Patriotic activities took
place in the classrooms all week. We ended our school year with a parade across
campus to our flag pole where we had a prayer service and laid a wreath in honor
of all our deceased Armed Forces. The children ended their celebration by singing
patriotic songs while proudly waving their American flags.

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
