Local High School Preparing Students for the Future Workforce in Austin
By: Tony Bonilla, San Juan Diego High School
Traducción por Claudia H. Nybo
The San Juan Diego Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) is unlike any other program in
Austin and plays an integral role in San Juan
Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS). This distinctive program benefits all participants: the
students, the school and the sponsoring companies. Students offset the cost of their education while
gaining valuable professional experience, and sponsoring companies lease employees to fill a full-time, entrylevel position.
Juan Diego Catholic High School (SJDCHS).
completo.
In the Corporate Work Study Program, a sponsoring company contracts with the CWSP to fill a full-time, entry-level position with a team of students. A job-sharing team is
composed of four students, each working five days per
month. All SJDCHS students participate in the CWSP, and
through their experience gain exposure to a variety of
industries, including law, health care, technology, education, finance and non-profit organizations. Standard student work duties vary: they may include entering data,
creating presentations, receiving visitors and phone calls,
filing, setting up conference rooms, sorting mail, copying
and faxing. Students work standard business hours, and
CWSP staff provides students with transportation to and
from their workplaces. The program runs annually from
August to June.

presentaciones, atender clientes y llamadas telefónicas, archivar
postal, sacar copias y enviar faxes.

Standing out in Professional Networks Through Social Media
By: Monica Peña, Social Media Ambassador
Traducción por Claudia H. Nybo
Are you using social media to get the most out of the networks you belong to? As we all know, it is not enough to
simply pay membership dues and wish for the best. To get
true value from membership we must get involved and attend events. Same is true for your social media outlets including LinkedIn, newsletters, Facebook fan page, etc.
Here are some considerations when tapping into these social media outlets while allowing your professionalism and
knowledge to shine:
profesionalismo y conocimiento:
Be aware of criteria. If not sure, ask.
Si no
está seguro, pregunte.
No spamming. Be a useful contributor.
Don’t need to reinvent the wheel. If attending one of the
organization’s events write about the speaker and point
out items learned. Members that were not able to attend
will appreciate the information and start seeing you as a resource.
Interaction is key. A lot is learned from other’s thoughts
and is a good way to get noticed.
Post events and attend new ones. Events are a useful
ways to see people again and build those long lasting relationships.
Be consistent. As you are continuously seen virtually and
beyond your visibility will grow.
No envíe correos masivos no solicitados.
Anuncie eventos y atienda nuevos eventos.
Congratulations!

Partnering with the Chamber is an Investment for Your Business
By: Gabriel Rodriguez, Time Warner Business Class
Traducción por Erika C. Montero
Having been invited to speak on the panel of the Williamson
County Small Business Summit, on behalf of Time Warner
Cable Business Class, was a great experience. As the representative for Time Warner, I was able to
educate business owners and delegates on
the vast array of services our company offers, future offerings, and how we can help
increase productivity in their space. In addition to sharpening my public speaking
skills, being given the opportunity to reach
a broad audience and solidify my brand in a single event
was invaluable. When the focus turns to telecommunications, businesses will be able to draw on a personal connection as a resource, Gabriel Rodriguez with Time Warner Business Class.
Gabriel Rodríguez de Time Warner Business Class.
