La Santísima Trinidad/ The Holy Trinity
La solemnidad de hoy, domingo de la Santísima Trinidad, en cierto sentido recapitula la revelación de Dios acontecida
en los misterios pascuales: muerte y resurrección de Cristo, su ascensión a la derecha del Padre y efusión del Espíritu
Santo. La mente y el lenguaje humanos son inadecuados para explicar la relación que existe entre el Padre, el Hijo y el
Espíritu Santo, y, sin embargo, los Padres de la Iglesia trataron de ilustrar el misterio de Dios uno y trino viviéndolo en
su propia existencia con profunda fe. La Trinidad divina, en efecto, pone su morada en nosotros el día del Bautismo:
«Yo te bautizo —dice el ministro— en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo». El nombre de Dios, en el
cual fuimos bautizados, lo recordamos cada vez que nos santiguamos. El teólogo Romano Guardini, a propósito del signo de la cruz, afirma: «Lo hacemos antes de la oración, para que… nos ponga espiritualmente en orden; concentre en
Dios pensamientos, corazón y voluntad; después de la oración, para que permanezca en nosotros lo que Dios nos ha dado
… Esto abraza todo el ser, cuerpo y alma, … y todo se convierte en consagrado en el nombre del Dios uno y trino» (Por
tanto, en el signo de la cruz y en el nombre del Dios vivo está contenido el anuncio que genera la fe e inspira la oración.
Y, al igual que en el Evangelio Jesús promete a los Apóstoles que «cuando venga él, el Espíritu de la verdad, os guiará
hasta la verdad completa» (Jn 16, 13), así sucede en la liturgia dominical, cuando los sacerdotes dispensan, cada semana,
el pan de la Palabra y de la Eucaristía. También el santo cura de Ars lo recordaba a sus fieles: «¿Quién ha recibido vuestra alma —decía— recién nacidos? El sacerdote. ¿Quién la alimenta para que pueda terminar su peregrinación? El sacerdote. ¿Quién la preparará para comparecer ante Dios, lavándola por última vez en la sangre de Jesucristo? … Siempre el
sacerdote»

This Sunday of the Most Holy Trinity, in a certain sense sums up God's revelation which was brought about through the
Paschal Mysteries: Christ's death and Resurrection, his Ascension to the right hand of the Father and the outpouring of
the Holy Spirit. The human mind and language are inadequate to explain the relationship that exists between the Father,
the Son and the Holy Spirit; yet the Fathers of the Church sought to illustrate the mystery of the Triune God by living it
with deep faith in their own lives. The divine Trinity takes up his abode in us on the day of our Baptism: "I baptize you
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit". Every time we sign ourselves with the sign of the
Cross we remember God's name in which we were baptized. With regard to the sign of the Cross a theologian, Romano
Guardini, remarked: "We do it before praying so that... we may put ourselves spiritually in order; focus thoughts, heart
and will on God; after praying, so that what God has given us may remain within us.... It embraces the whole being,
body and soul... and everything is consecrated in the name of the Triune God" .The sign of the Cross and the name of the
living God therefore contain the proclamation that generates faith and inspires prayer. And just as in the Gospel Jesus
promises the Apostles that: "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth" (Jn 16: 13), so it happens in the Sunday Liturgy, from week to week, when priests dispense the bread of the Word and of the Eucharist. The
Holy Curé d'Ars also reminded his faithful of this. "Who welcomed your soul", he asked, "at the beginning of your life?
The priest. Who feeds your soul and gives it strength for its journey? The priest. Who will prepare it to appear before
God, bathing it one last time in the blood of Jesus Christ? The priest, always the priest"
